Kong Zhenlan, a 71-year-old woman from Chinas Shanxi Province,

making sure that they had food on the table and got access to education.
Even though she could only afford to support herself on a modest
income, Kong Zhenlan couldn’t bear to walk by the orphanage in Jixian
County every day and see so many children struggling in poverty. One day,

People do not like being separated from their mobile phones, even
while enjoying a restful holiday at the beach. However, the phone battery
may become exhausted completely. If that happens, they have no choice
but to connect the phone to the power supply. But it’s impossible to get the
battery charged at the beach. What’s worse, the hot sun is shining right
overhead, and the water in the bottle is sure to reach a very high
temperature.
Antoine Sayah, a university student from Lebanon, developed a
special beach mat called the Beach ill. It looks similar to the ordinary beach
mat and will cause back pain as well. However, the device can recharge
any mobile phone. It is designed to be water-resistant (防水的) and has a
5-watt solar panel (面板), which provides power continuously. The mat
also has the refrigeration equipment that can help keep drinks cool, just
like the refrigerator.
Antoine Sayah began selling the beach ill on the Internet for $150. He
says he has been surprised at the reaction worldwide. “I have got orders for
the device from Brazil, Toronto, all over Europe, especially France,
America, from all continents.” The beach ill is also gaining popularity in
other places, like swimming pools and boats.
Some people like the mat because it is lightweight and easy to carry. Rita
Mathieu bought one of the beach ills. “When I am on the beach, I used to
look around for a charger and never managed to find any and the water
never stays cool,” she says, “so this kind of beach mat is wonderfuland has everything in it, even a pocket where I can put a book. Thanks to
it, I can surf the Internet and keep in touch with friends at any time at the
beach.”

Rome—Doctors and medical groups around the world last weekend
reacted with strong opposition to the news that an Italian specialist is on the
brink of cloning the first human baby.
Dir. Severino Antinori, who is the head of a hospital in Rome, has
been referred to in an Arab newspaper as claiming that one of his patients is
eight weeks pregnant with a cloned baby.
Antinori refused to comment on the reports, but he said he hoped to
produce a cloned embryo (卵) for implantation (植入) within two
years. So far seven different kinds of mammals have already successfully
cloned, including sheep, cats and most recently rabbits.
Doctors showed their doubt and were strongly opposed although they
admitted that human cloning would finally come true unless there was a
worldwide ban on the practice.Professor Rudolf Jaeniscb of the Whitehead Institute for Biomedical
Research at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology said, “I find it
astonishing that people do this where the result can be predicted that it will
not be a normal baby. It is using humans as Guinea pigs. It makes people
feel sick.”
But Ronald Green, director of the Ethics Institute at Dartmouth College
in the US, said it was unlikely that an eight-week-old pregnancy would lead
to a birth.
So far all cloned animals have suffered from some different serious
disorders, many of them dying soon after their births.
Doctors are opposed to human cloning because they are worried about
the welfare of the cloned child if there is one.
“There are no benefits of cloned human beings, just harm,” said Dir.
Michael Walks of the UK.

most probably mean?

A. They support it. B. They welcome it.
C. They are against it. D. They pay no attention to it.
14. What can we learn about the cloned animals?
A. They are active.
B. They are born unhealthy.
C. They live a relatively long life.
D. They have a different character from the normal.
15. What does the text mainly tell us about human cloning?
A. Its failure. B. Its success.

A major source of teen stress is school exams, and test anxiety is not
uncommon. When you recognize your teen is under stress, how can
parents help your teen stay calm before an exam?
Be involved. Parents need to be involved in their teens work. 1 What
they look for is your presence—to talk, to cry, or simply to sit with themquietly. Communicate openly with your teen. Encourage your teen to express
his worries and fears, but don’t let him focus on those fears.
Help them get organized. 2 Together, you and your teen can work
out a timetable in which he can study for what he knows will be on the test.
Provide a calm setting. Help your teen set up a quiet place to study and
protect his privacy. Give him a nutritious diet. It is important for your teen to
eat a healthy, balanced diet during exam times to focus and do his best.
3 If this happens, encourage your teen to eat light meals or
sandwiches. A healthy diet, rather than junk food, is best for reducing
stress.
4 Persuade your teen to get some sleep or do something active when
he needs a real break from studying. Making time for relaxation, fun, and
exercise is important in reducing stress. Help your teen balance his time so
that he will feel comfortable taking time out from studying to spend time with
friends or rest.
Show a positive attitude. 5 Your panic, anxiety and blame
contribute to your teens pressure. Make your teen feel accepted and valued
for his efforts. Most importantly, reassure your teen that things will be all
right, no matter what the results are.
A. Encourage your teen to relax.
B. The best thing is simply to listen.
C. They will only make the situation worse.
D. Parents attitude will influence their teen’s emotions.
E. Exam stress can make some teens want to eat nothing.

G. Help your teen think about what he has to study and plan accordingly.

One possible version:
Have a Healthy Lifestyle
We all know that health is very important. Only when we are healthy can
we study well and enjoy life.
However, many teenagers dent pay any attention to their health,
especially during the holiday. They spend too much time watching TV,
playing games and chatting on the Internet all night, which is bad for their
health. This may make them get nearsighted. Their bodies become much
weaker. And they will lose the chance to communicate with others face to
face as they never go out.
In my opinion, teenagers should spend less time in front of the TV or
the computer. Go out to take some exercise, play some sports and visit
some friends and have a healthy lifestyle.
