She chose to become an ocularist (义眼师) who makes prosthetic eyes (义眼) for herself and people in the same situation to help them get back their confidence. Xintong is the name that she gave to herself — which she prefers people to call her instead of her real name — because “xintong” in Chinese sounds like “new pupils”. Nearly 10 years after losing her right eye in a car accident, 28-year-old Xintong from Beijing transformed the hollow of her eye socket — a “flaw” she used to hide — into a fashion statement. She shared a short video online in which she wears a glowing prosthetic eye. As she waves her hand, the prosthetic eye begins to shine with red light. With another wave, the light changes to green and then purple and white. The video soon went viral on social media, with many comments praising her for being “creative”, “beautiful” and “optimistic”. But that wasn’t the case 10 years ago. “The prosthetic eye I wore at that time was torturing me,” Xintong said. “It hurt and gave me a red and swollen eye socket, and it looked so dull and fake. I was young and I wanted to look attractive.” She took matters into her own hands and began researching prosthetic eyes. Beginning in 2019, she dedicated about two years to mastering the production techniques and skills under the guidance of an ocularist. This journey led her to establish her own prosthetic eye studio, providing personalized services for those requiring them. She produces prosthetic eyes as if she is creating pieces of artwork. “The position, direction, and even stroke thickness of the blood streaks on the prosthetic eyeballs matter,” the ocularist said. Sometimes she also paints special patterns according to customers’ needs: twinkling stars, cartoon characters like Cardcaptor Sakura and effects like colored contact lenses. Now when Xintong hears her customers say words such as “Finally, I can accept myself” or “Now I feel free to take selfies”, she feels deeply moved. 24.Why did Xintong give the name “Xintong” to herself? A.To attract more people. B.To forget her real name. C.To look like new pupils. D.To start a brand new life. 25.Why did the video gain much popularity on social media? A.The prosthetic eyes had various colors. B.She cured her hollow by waving her hand. C.Many comments praised her for her beauty.D.She changed a “flaw” into a fashionable state. 26.What can we learn about Xintong from paragraph 5? A.She failed to set up her own prosthetic eye studio. B.She began researching prosthetic eyes on her own. C.She was able to offer some specific services on prosthetic eyes. D.She paid no attention to grasping the production techniques and skills. 27.What can be inferred from the passage? A.Xintong is a woman with determination and creativity. B.Becoming an ocularist helped Xintong gain much profit. C.Xintong lost all her hopes in her life after the car accident. D.Many customers are deeply moved by Xintong’s artworks. 根据第一段中“Xintong is the name that she gave to herself — which she prefers people to call her instead of her real name — because “xintong” in Chinese sounds like “new pupils”. But SpoGomi, a competitive sport, is devoted to directly helping the planet. The name “SpoGomi” comes from “sports” and “gomi”, which means “refuse” in Japanese. Japan created SpoGomi in 2008 as a way to promote refuse collection and has organized an annual competition since then. Now, supported by the Nippon Foundation, the sport is so popular that there are competitions around the world, including the first SpoGomi World Cup, which was held in Japan in November 2023. Teams from 21 countries selected through preliminary competitions competed, with the UK team coming out in first place. SpoGomi has a whole set of rules. Generally, teams are made up of three to five members who have to collect as much refuse as possible within a specified area and time limit. The most common duration is an hour for picking up refuse plus another 20 minutes to correctly sort it. There are other rules set up — from safety rules like being prohibited from picking up litter near roads or railway tracks to sportsmanship rules like respecting the players in other teams. Points are awarded for every 100 grains of litter collected, with teams earning 10 points for burnable or unburnable waste. 12 points for glass bottles and metal cans, 25 points for PET bottles, and 150 points for cigarette butts. The team with the most litter wins. If one team ties with another, the team with more points will be the winner. In the end, all participants can be bathed in the pride of making the environment just a little bit cleaner and healthier. Udagawa Takayasu, a spokesperson for the Nippon Foundation, claims, “Although our team could not win in the preliminary tournament held last weekend, the city became markedly cleaner. That’s what I’m proud of. ” 28.What do we know about SpoGomi? A.It catches on very well. B.It is held every other year. C.It sets age limits on competitors D.It takes place only in rural areas. 29.How is the winner determined in case of a tie? A.By the diversity of garbage. B.By the time they spend. C.By the points they earn. D.By the total weight of litter. 30.Why is Udagawa Takayasu mentioned in the last paragraph? A.To highlight his influence. B.To praise all the organizers. C.To show his good mentality. D.To prove the author’s point. 31.Which of the following is the best title for the text? The team with the most litter wins. If one team ties with another, the team with more points will be the winner.(玻璃瓶和金属罐12分,PET瓶25分,烟头150分。垃圾量最多的队伍获胜。如 果一个队与另一个队打成平手,得分更多的队将是获胜者)”可知,捡到的垃圾最多的队获胜,出现平局 时,得分更多的队是获胜者。故选C。 30.推理判断题。根据最后一段“Udagawa Takayasu, a spokesperson for the Nippon Foundation, claims, “Although our team could not win in the preliminary tournament held last weekend, the city became markedly cleaner. The Groningen-based company today announced a fresh cash injection of €1. 5 million to promote the development of the product, which uses an inbuilt camera system, motion sensors, and artificial intelligence to capture text written on paper. “Just write, and Nuwa Pen digitizes, ” Marc Tuinier, Nuwa's CEO, told us. All the notes are then stored on the startup’s app. They can then be organized, shared, and integrated with other apps. A particularly fascinating feature is intelligent notes, which scans and identifies rich text items such as dates, to-dos, and phone numbers from the notes. Users can then link the data with, for instance, their calendar, to-do app, or phone book. The feature is integrated with over 50 apps. Nuwa compares it to a personal assistant that puts you on top of your schedule. Nuwa is targeting the product at people who still enjoy writing with a pen and notebook. While many smart pens only work on screens or digital writing systems, Nuwa promises adaptability with every type of paper. The product also uses regular ink refills. “Other smart pen brands rely on special dotted paper to recognize what the user is writing, so you’ll also be stuck buying theirpaper, ” Tuinier said. “Nuwa Pen can be used on any paper. ” The Nuwa system is built around tiny design. The device weighs just 28 grams — about as much as a single AA battery — but provides enough power for two hours of continuous writing. Three tiny cameras are used to digitize the text with 2 mm×2 mm sensors. All the data is then processed directly on the device. “Capturing handwriting from these sensors in the pen itself, while a pen is constantly moving, is an extremely difficult task to get right — and we’ve done it, ” Tuinier said. By combining the trusty old ballpoint pen with the digital world, Nuwa hopes that it can solve one of those needs. The device is now available for pre-order. 32.What is the primary function of the Nuwa Pen? A.Intergrating pens with other apps. B.Organizing handwritten notes digitally. C.Combining all apps into a single platform. D.Providing a solution for personal schedules. 33.Who is the Nuwa Pen’s main target buyer? A.People who prefer typing over handwriting. B.People who show interest in smart ink refills. C.People who have an extra budget for paper purchase. D.People who appreciate traditional pen and paper writing. 34.Why does the author list a series of numbers in the last paragraph? A.To show how portable the device is. Plain language involves using direct and accessible language with a straightforward structure. To write in plain language, it is important to follow certain guidelines. 36 The only details necessary are those necessary for understanding. For example, the sign “Wait behind the yellow line,” at a train platform includes “yellow” so travelers know where to stand. Plain language avoids using vocabulary that requires specialized knowledge. If you work in IT, you can comfortably use the word “latency” with your colleagues. 37 But when speaking with someone without an IT background, you might instead use “slow” to ensure that they know what you’re talking about. Plain language is more than word choices, though. It also involves structuring writing to prioritize clarity. 38 For example, use clear headers for each section. Mention the topic early in a sentence or paragraph. Write directly to your reader. 39 Additionally, use the active voice whenever possible to enhance clarity. It is important to note that not every guideline for plain writing will apply to every piece of writing. The ultimate goal is to create contents that are accessible and easily understood. By using plain language, you demonstrate respect for your readers’ time and intelligence. 40 A.That is because they know what it means. B.This can be achieved in the following ways. C.Thus, it develops positive relationships with them. D.In many cases, this means writing in the second person point of view. E.One key aspect of plain writing is ensuring sentences are as short as possible. F.This can be especially important for those who speak English as a second language. G.Plain language reduces the risk of misunderstandings caused by confusing language choices. 【答案】36.E 37.A 38.B 39.D 40.C 【导语】这是一篇说明文。主要介绍了使用通俗易懂的语言写作时需要遵循一些通用的指导原则。 36.根据下文“The only details they include are those necessary for the reader to understand the sentences’ meaning. Firstly, substance provides the foundation for speech. Without substantial content, even the most logical arguments may lack persuasiveness. While logic is crucial for structuring arguments, substance provides the core ideas that engage and persuade. This year, as always, he’d collected everything he needed for his “Halloween masterpiece.” One evening, he took a stroll down the block, noticing how everyone had decorated their houses with glowing pumpkins and ghosts. He was practically glowing with excitement. But as he walked, something that caught his eye dimmed his smile. One house stood dark and empty. No pumpkins. No cobwebs. Just a bare, lonely porch (门廊). It was Mrs. Kimbly’s house. He told me about it when he got home. “Mom, Mrs. Kimbly’s house doesn’t have any decorations. I think she needs help.” I told him maybe she didn’t want to decorate this year, but Kevin was certain. “Halloween is supposed to be fun. She shouldn’t have to spend it feeling bad.” That was my Kevin. His heart was as big as the world. After I said it was okay to check on her, he gathered his decorations, even his favorite carved pumpkin, and went to her house. He decorated her front porch and was super excited until he heard her yell behind him. “What are you doing here?” she asked. “I…I just wanted to decorate your house,” he stammered. “I don’t need any decorations!” she shouted and removed the decorations. “Now go away!” When Kevin returned home that night, he looked completely defeated. He told me how unhappy Mrs. Kimbly looked. “Maybe she’s really lonely, honey,” I said gently. “Not everyone feels happy during the holidays.” On Halloween night, he dressed up as a vampire but looked less excited than usual. As we made our way down the street, he couldn’t stop glancing toward Mrs. Kimbly’s house. It was still dark and empty, and I knew hewas worried the other kids would see it as a target for tricks. “Mom, I’m going to stay there,” he said suddenly. “I don’t want anyone to mess with her house.” And that’s just what he did. He took his candy bag and sat down on her porch steps. Whenever kids came up expecting candy, he’d give out some of his own. His candies dwindled quickly, but he stayed put, determined to protect her home. 注意: (1) 续写词数应为150左右; (2) 请按如下格式在答题卡的相应位置作答。 Paragraph 1: A little while later, the door creaked open, and Mrs. Kimbly stepped out. ____________________________________________________________________________________________ ____________________________________________________________________________________________ ____________________________________________________________________________________________ ____________________________________________________________________________________________ ____________________________________________________________________________________________ Paragraph 2: “Thank you, Kevin,” she whispered. ____________________________________________________________________________________________ ____________________________________________________________________________________________ ____________________________________________________________________________________________ ____________________________________________________________________________________________ ____________________________________________________________________________________________ 【答案】 A little while later, the door creaked open, and Mrs. Kimbly stepped out. “Kevin, what are you doing here?” she asked, surprised. Kevin gazed up at her, then down at his almost empty candy bag. “I just didn’t want anyone to mess with your house, Mrs. Kimbly.” he said quietly. Mrs. Kimbly’s face softened. She sat down beside us and took a deep breath. Then she told her story, and Kevin finally knew why she had spent so many years alone. No kids, no grandkids. It didn’t seem worth celebrating anymore. “But you don’t have to be alone,” Kevin smiled. “We are here.” She gave him a small, sad smile, her eyes glistening. “Thank you, Kevin,” she whispered. “And I’m sorry for removing all the decorations. I shouldn’t have thrown the pumpkin away.” Kevin’s smile was as warm as ever. “It’s okay, Mrs. Kimbly. I have another one at home.
