Once there was a big man called Mr Big.
His house was big, his car was big and his cat was big.
One day he tried to write a letter and he broke ten pens.
“I need a big pen,” said Mr Big.
Mr Big went to the shops to get a big pen.
But the man in the shop forgot the ink.
“I’ll make my own ink,”said Mr Big.
He mixed and he mixed and he mixed.
Then he put in lots of water.
Mr Big filled up the big pen with his ink and said, “What shall we write?”
His cat said, “Write Mouse.”
At once a mouse ran over the paper.
Mr Big cried, “Wow!This pen must be magic.”
“Quick!” cried Mr Big.”What shall I write next?”
“Fish!” cried Mr Big’s cat.

Many dogs live in cities, but we don’t see all of them.
It’s late at night in a big city.
Pet dogs sleep inside on soft beds or warm floors.
Outside, a wild dog called a coyote wakes up.
Coyotes live in cities allover North America.
Once, coyotes only lived in the countryside.
Pet dogs and coyotes are similar, but they aren’t the same.
Coyotes have lower elbows.
Dogs have deeper chests.
Coyotes also look like other dogs.

In the country, coyotes leave their dens to hunt in the daytime.
City coyotes sleep during the day and go out hunting at night, when people and pets are inside.
Coyotes are good for the city because they catch rats and mice.
Most people and pets will never see a coyote.
But if pet food is left outside, a coyote may smell it and come near.
A lone howl – or a chorus of howls – is a clue that coyotes are nearby.
One coyote is the alpha dog.
When new coyotes move into the territory, the pack may fight them.
Then the losers move onto a new neighbourhood.
Right outside people’s houses, coyotes keep their pups safe and well-fed.
