What a joy it was seeing them again. Their little flickers (闪烁) of light made me smile with delight. As the daylight was starting to fade. I saw out my window some of the neighborhood children attempting to catch the slow moving lightening insects. One of the girls went inside and came back with a clear glass bottle. After chasing a few without success, she finally caught a firefly inside it. All the other children gathered around to watch it flickering its light on and off inside the bottle. Soon darkness started to fall and the girl’s mom walked over to them and told them it was time to set the firefly free. One of the girls protested, but the mom explained that the firefly would die if left in the bottle. Then she said something that still stays in my heart to this day, “It is time to let this little guy go so it can share its light with the rest of the world!” I think we may share our light with the rest of the world, We may give our love to others. We may keep shining. I remember when I was a child we all used to sing the song, “This little light of mine, I’m going to let it shine!” But as adults we find it hard to do so. We stay at the darkness too much and hide our light in fear. Don’t hide your light. Don’t keep it in a bottle. Share your flickers, no matter how small they may be. Let the love inside you out. Let the light within you drive the darkness away. 19. Why did the author feel happy according to paragraph 1? A. He could find it became warmer and everything came to life. B. He could see fireflies came back and blinked their lights. C. He could walk outside in the light of fireflies. D. He could have the longest day of the year. 20. What did the girl want to do with the firefly? A. Keep it in the container. B. Let it free in no time. C. Feed it with leaves. D. Kill it with water. 21. Which of the following best describes the girl’s mother? A. Kind. B. Calm. C. Demanding. D. Casual. 22. Why did the author mention the song in the last paragraph? A. To show us his innocent years. B. To warn us not to hurt insects. C. To tell his childhood in summer. D. To express his thought of sharing love. C Walk into any waiting area and you will see people of all ages on the phone. It is rare to see people sitting and 更多资料添加微信号:hiknow_007 淘宝搜索店铺:乐知课堂simply thinking while waiting for the next part of the day or night. We have also observed people playing with their mobile phones while having dinner with others or in the presence of their families. It seems that everyone is experiencing FOMO (fear of missing out) or a strong addiction to electronic devices. Why do adults, middle school students, and even young children turn to electronics while waiting? A recent study by Hatano et al. (2022) found that in different cultures people underestimate how enjoyable and attractive simply thinking might be. In a series of studies on university students in both Japan and the United Kingdom, the participants rated their level of expected enjoyment and engagement in simply thinking and then rated their actual level of enjoyment and participation in thinking after the waiting period. During the waiting period, the participants only had the option to think. They were not allowed to take electronics into the waiting area. The participants were not necessarily happy about thinking. Instead, they underestimated the benefits related to thinking and thought that thinking was aversive before the waiting period, which only allowed thinking without electronic products. After this waiting period, they admitted that thinking was more interesting and easier than expected. Thinking can include problem-solving, goal-setting, and a variety of other creative tasks. These outcomes can be extremely productive and satisfying. Perhaps it is time for parents and educators to teach children about the importance of paying attention to one’s thoughts. We need to be better role models and put down our own phones when there is an opportunity to simply wait and think. We need to provide these opportunities for both ourselves and our children. 23. What’s the purpose of the author describing the scene about people’s using electronics? A. To introduce the importance of electronics. B. To tell what bad influences electronics have. C. To voice his views on thinking while waiting. D. To explain why we should have better ways of communication. 24. What does the underlined word “aversive” in paragraph 2 mean? A. Satisfactory. B. Boring. C. Worried. D. Meaningful. 25. What should parents and educators do according to the text? A. Provide opportunities for children. B. Pick up the phones while waiting. C. Underestimate the benefits of thinking. D. Tell children about the significance of thinking. 26. Which can be a suitable title for the text? A. Why should we put our phones down? B. How can electronic products affect us? 更多资料添加微信号:hiknow_007 淘宝搜索店铺:乐知课堂C. How do we think freely by using phones? D. Why does thinking while waiting make people smart? D A robotic game of cat and mouse in a lab shows us the possibilities of future robots carrying out search-and- rescue missions or wildlife protection without too much human guidance. The Tianjicat robot developed by researchers at Tsinghua University in China uses a brain-inspired computing chip called TianjicX.The so-called neuromorphic(神经形态)chip can use a variety of Al technologies at the same time in an energy-saving way. It is one example of experiments with neuromorphic systems that could allow small robots to make decisions using limited computing resources and power. The researchers asked the Tianjicat robot to catch up with another robot that was set to move freely in a room full of barriers. This required Tianjicat to track the mouse robot by using both sight and sound detection, and to find the best way to hunt its pretend prey(猎物)without knocking anything. The team said that the TianjicX chip reduced the amount of power for the robot cat to make decisions. Performing a cat-and-mouse chase would be more difficult for most other robots, because they usually follow very predictable routines in warehouses or factories, Many robots that interact with more complex and unpredictable environments rely on remote control by human operators, or else must keep wireless connections with distant data centres. Neuromorphic systems haven’t yet been used on a large scale, but their relatively small size, weight and power requirements could provide practical advantages. The Tianjicat robot is worldwide acknowledged. “For robotics, this is very important because it allows the system to run longer in hard-to-reach environments,” says Jeffrey L.Krichmar at the University of California, Irvine. 27. What’s the advantage of TianjicX? A. It is much larger. B. It is energy-saving. C. It is heavier. D. It is cheaper. 28. What does paragraph 3 mainly tell us? A. Why the robot chased another robot. B. What the robot’s pretend prey was like. C. How the experiment for the robot was done. D. How much power the robot used in an action. 29. What can be inferred from paragraph 4? A. Neuromorphic systems are widely used now. B. The Tianjicat robot needs very high power supply. 更多资料添加微信号:hiknow_007 淘宝搜索店铺:乐知课堂C. Robots with neuromorphic systems have more advantages. D. Robots can almost independently perform in difficult environments. 30. What’s Jeffrey L. Krichmar’s attitude to the invention of the Tianjicat robot? A. Indifferent. B. Doubtful. C. Objective. D. Positive. 第二节:根据短文内容,从短文后的选项中选出能填入空白处的最佳选项。选项中有两项为 多余选项。(共5小题;每小题2. 5分,满分12. 5分) Using the correct time management skills and tips can help you get more organized and efficient. Life did get a bit easier ever since she 更多资料添加微信号:hiknow_007 淘宝搜索店铺:乐知课堂was taken in by her foster mom, but the little girl was still not happy. How she wished she could have a father! One morning in class, Minnie’s teacher, Mr Thompson, made a surprising announcement, making Minnie frown (皱眉) again. “Kids, tomorrow is Father’s Day! And at school, we’re all celebrating it by having breakfast with Dads! All of you get to bring your dads or anyone you look up to as your dad to school tomorrow. We’ll all sit in one circle, share funny stories, and have breakfast together.” “What a terrible idea!” Minnie muttered (咕哝) under her breath. For the rest of the day, most kids were talking up their fathers: businessmen, policemen, engineers, and even an actor. Everybody had somebody who was a father figure, except for Minnie. After school, Mr Thompson spotted the sad little girl sitting alone by the school gate. “Are you all right, Minnie?” Mr Thompson asked. Suddenly, the child hugged his legs and cried. Minnie told her trouble to her teacher and Mr Thompson comforted her. After getting home that evening, Mr Thompson couldn’t shake off the sadness he had seen on Minnie’s face. Suddenly, he had an idea. He opened his laptop, and as the keys on the keyboard clattered, Mr Thompson began to smile. He was putting out a post on social media, sharing Minnie’s story and asking for a dad to volunteer for Minnie and show up to school the next day as her father figure. Thirty minutes later, his phone buzzed. And it buzzed again and again. By the time the teacher checked his phone, he was shocked to see the number flashing across the screen. “50 volunteers? Am I reading this right?” Mr Thompson gasped. He put on his glasses and read through all the responses on his post. He was so surprised. These 50 volunteers all wanted to come and help Minnie. 注意: 1. 续写词数应为150左右; 2. 请按如下格式在答题卡的相应位置作答。 The next day, Minnie went to school sadly, not knowing the surprise was waiting for her. ____________________________________________________________________________________________ ____________________________________________________________________________________________ ____________________________________________________________________________________________ ____________________________________________________________________________________________ ______________________________________________________ Minnie was confused at first, but when she saw those “dads”, she was obviously happy. ____________________________________________________________________________________________ 更多资料添加微信号:hiknow_007 淘宝搜索店铺:乐知课堂____________________________________________________________________________________________ ____________________________________________________________________________________________ ____________________________________________________________________________________________ ______________________________________________________ 更多资料添加微信号:hiknow_007 淘宝搜索店铺:乐知课堂更多资料添加微信号:hiknow_007 淘宝搜索店铺:乐知课堂
