【 高考真题】
1.(2024年九省联考读后续写)
阅读下面材料,根据其内容和所给段落开头语续写两段,使之构成一篇完整的短文。
Last summer, Hilda worked as a volunteer with dolphin trainers at a sea life park. Her job was to make sure
the tanks were free of any items so that the trainers could train the dolphins to fetch specific items. However, one
day after cleaning, one of the dolphins, Maya, presented Hilda with a candy wrapper from the tank. When
Katherine, the trainer, saw this, she blamed Hilda for her carelessness. Upset but not discouraged by this event,
Hilda decided to do some spying on Maya.
The next morning, Hilda arrived at the park early. She put on her scuba gear (水下呼吸器) and jumped into
the tank for her usual, underwater sweep. Finding nothing in the tank, she climbed out of the water just in time to
see Katherine jumping in on the other side. After what happened yesterday, Hilda knew what she was doing. She
watched as Katherine performed her underwater search, but Hilda wasn’t surprised when she surfaced empty-
handed.
During the tank sweeps, Maya had been swimming playfully, but now the dolphin stopped suddenly and swam
to the back part of the tank where the filter (过滤) box was located. She stuck her nose down behind the box and
then swam away. What was Maya doing back there? Hilda wondered. She jumped back into the water and swam
over to take a look behind the box, and her question was answered. Hilda then swam across the tank following
Maya’s path and emerged from the water to find Katherine removing her scuba gear. As Katherine turned around,
her mouth dropped open. There was Maya at the edge of the tank with a comb (梳子) in her mouth waiting for her
treat.
“Maya! Where did you get that?” demanded Katherine, taking the comb and throwing her a fish. “I know
where she got it,” declared Hilda climbing out of the tank with a handful of items still wet from their watery, resting更多全科试卷及资料,请关注公众号:高中试卷君

2. (2023年浙江卷1月)
阅读下面材料,根据其内容和所给段落开头语续写两段,使之构成一篇完整的短文。
I was invited to a cookout on an old friend’s farm in western Washington. I parked my car outside the farm and
walked past a milking house which had apparently not been used in many years. A noise at a window caught my
attention, so I entered it. It was a hummingbird (蜂鸟), desperately trying to escape. She was covered in spider-
webs (蛛网) and was barely able to move her wings. She ceased her struggle the instant I picked her up.
With the bird in my cupped hand, I looked around to see how she had gotten in. The broken window glass was
the likely answer. I stuffed a piece of cloth into the hole and took her outside, closing the door securely behind me.
When I opened my hand, the bird did not fly away; she sat looking at me with her bright eyes. I removed the
sticky spider-webs that covered her head and wings. Still, she made no attempt to fly. Perhaps she had been
struggling against the window too long and was too tired? Or too thirsty?
As I carried her up the blackberry-lined path toward my car where I kept a water bottle, she began to move. I
stopped, and she soon took wing but did not immediately fly away.更多全科试卷及资料,请关注公众号:高中试卷君
Hovering (悬停), she approached within six inches of my face. For a very long moment, this tiny creature
looked into my eyes, turning her head from side to side. Then she flew quickly out of sight.
During the cookout, I told my hosts about the hummingbird incident. They promised to fix the window. As I
was departing, my friends walked me to my car. I was standing by the car when a hummingbird flew to the center
of our group and began hovering. She turned from person to person until she came to me. She again looked directly
into my eyes, then let out a squeaking call and was gone. For a moment, all were speechless. Then someone said,
“She must have come to say goodbye.”

For most people, adopting (收养) a pet is one of the best decisions that they can ever make in their lives. In
addition to giving an animal a home and a loving family, the owner will find the company of a pet brings more
happiness than expected.
For someone like Maria, having a pet was very suitable. She was all alone after moving to a new apartment in更多全科试卷及资料,请关注公众号:高中试卷君
Brazil, which made her feel lonely.
So when she found a cute black puppy named Chips, she knew she had to take him home. Maria thought that
Chips would be able to fill the emptiness that she had been experiencing from living all alone.
Maria was right. Once she took the puppy home, they immediately bonded. However, as Maria had to work
during the day, she was worried about leaving Chips home alone in her apartment. She was also worried that his
crying would upset her neighbors.
One night, when she returned home, outside her door was a package with a folded note attached to it. Maria
knew that she was in trouble. She hoped that she would not be evicted (驱逐) from her new apartment because of
Chips. She loved Chips so much, and she was afraid that she might have to get rid of him because he made too
much noise whenever she was away. Maria was frightened and wondered who could have left it at the door because
she had little contact with the people in the building except her neighbor, Angelia. In fact, they only said hello few
times.
However, when she noticed the names on the folded note, she found that it wasn’t addressed to her but to her
dog, Chips, and that it was “written” by another dog named Corote. Maria opened the package first and found a few
toys for pets.

For as long as I can remember, my parents raised me with dogs, cats, birds and fish in the house, and I felt the
most comfort with these pets in my surroundings. As an only child, I grew up talking to these animals since I never
had a partner to play with at home.
I created characters for each of the pets and I included them in my imaginary adventures, tying capes onto the
dogs, who were changed into superheroes, and giving headwear to the cats, who became girls. Even after I began
attending pre-school, I’d eagerly await my return from school so that I could relay all the exciting details to my pets
who would listen and pretend to be slightly interested in my wandering. In fact, I probably communicated with my
pets more than I did with my friends, since these animals offered a sense of safety which no individual could
provide. It never felt strange for me to talk with members of different species and I always felt satisfied after I
spoke with them.
Imagine the shock I faced when I realized that certain cruel persons badly treated their pets. Over the spring
break of third grade when I visited Aunt Judy and my cousins in Philadelphia, I met her one-eyed cat, Gordon. A
cold, skinny creature, I firstly avoided directing my attention towards the cat. Aunt Judy must have noticed my
strange behavior, so she took me aside and explained that the Gordon’s owner had deserted him. The cat was
extremely unhealthy and injured when Aunt Judy discovered him.
After she had found medical treatments for the cat, my aunt decided to keep him because Aunt Judy said, “The
unwanted animals are the ones most in need of someone to love them wholeheartedly.” After my aunt’s advice, I
spent additional time to know Gordon and as days passed, he grew less afraid of me and I became more willing to
love him.

During the 25 years we’ve lived in our home, many cats have appeared on my porch (门廊), gazing through
the glass door, silently begging for food. Well, what can I do? Certainly not ignore their lovely faces. Even as my
husband says “Don’t feed these cats, Caren,” I am opening the door, with cat food bag in hand. These cats usually
stay a few days, maybe a couple months before disappearing into the woods.
One evening while feeding the horses, I saw something move. I turned just in time to glimpse a black tail
disappearing under our shed (小棚). Later, I saw a skinny young cat sneak around and finish the leftovers. The next
time I saw her, she had a companion, a black male cat. I made sure to put out enough food for the both of them.
Pretty soon, they were appearing at dinnertime with our other cats. I named them Minnie and Freddy. I would
give them food in separate containers, but they would walk up and down until I went back inside. Then, with no
human near, they would devour their meals. This went on for a couple of weeks. One day, Freddy didn’t show up.
We never saw him again.
But Minnie kept sticking around our room, dividing time between the shed and the porch. She was no longer
skinny and looked quite nicely. I congratulated myself on her newfound health. However, she kept gaining weight
—especially around her middle. Yup, she was pregnant (怀孕的).

“Woof! Woof!” Emma was closing up her bookstore and the loud barking behind her frightened her so badly
that she dropped her keys. She turned and found a large dog standing behind her. “Where did you come from?”
Emma asked as she got back her keys.
The dog walked closer and pressed up against Emma’s leg. He looked up at Emma and wagged his tail, Emma
touched his ear, and her hand brushed against the collar (项圈) hidden beneath the dog’s thick coat. Emma parted
the dog’s fur to see if there was a name tag attached to the collar. Instead, she found rows of shiny blue and yellow
stones encircled the collar. “That is one fancy collar,” Emma said. “Someone must be looking for you.”
Emma glanced up and down the street, but didn’t find anyone who seemed like they were looking for the dog.
She asked some passers-by if they’d seen anyone, but they all shook their heads.
It seemed like she had no other choice, so Emma took the dog home with her. She ate dinner, fed the dog some
of the food she’d bought on the way home, then settled onto the sofa. The dog sat beside the sofa and rested his
chin on her knee. Emma looked down into his soulful eyes. “Don’t worry. I’ll find your owner.” She patted the
dog’s head.
Emma took the dog to her bookshop with her the next day. “I didn’t know you had a dog.” Emma looked up at
the man who’d just entered her shop. It was her regular customer Peter.
“I found him, but he’s not mine,” Emma said.
“Well, I hope he won’t scare away your customers.” Peter walked closer to the dog. Peter’s words worried
Emma. She kept a close eye on the dog, but he didn’t bark at anyone. When a woman with a little kid entered the
store, the dog even went over to sniff (g) the child.

Puppies for sale
A shop owner placed a sign above his door that read, “Puppies for Sale.”
As we know, signs like this always have a way of appealing to young children, and to no surprise, a little boy
appeared by the shop owner’s sign and approached the owner. “Excuse me, how much are you going to sell the
puppies for?” he asked.
The store owner replied, “For anything between $30 and $50.”
The little boy reached in his pocket and pulled out some change from it. “I have $2.37 on me,” he said in a low
voice. “Can I please look at them?”
The shop owner smiled and whistled. Out of the kennel (犬舍) came Lady, who ran down the passage of his
shop, followed by five tiny balls of fur. One puppy was moving slowly and fell behind. In no time the little boy
picked out the slow puppy and asked, “What’s wrong with that little dog?”
The shop owner explained that the vet (兽医) had examined the little puppy and had discovered that his back
leg was injured. He would always walk slowly and with difficulty. He would be lame (瘸的).
Hearing what the shop owner had said, the little boy became excited, “That is the little puppy I want to buy.”更多全科试卷及资料,请关注公众号:高中试卷君

said, “I don’t want you to give him to me. That little dog is worth every bit as much as all the other dogs and I’ll

A Sweet Song
“Nothing will ever be the same again,” Ally whispered.
Ally’s father died last summer. It wasn’t fair, Ally thought, frowning. Dad was young and had never been sick.
Why had his heart suddenly stopped? Ally curled herself up in her father’s favorite chair and looked at his picture
on the bookcase. It was one of her favorite shots. Ally smiled. “I miss you, Dad,” she said softly.
She felt a hand smoothing her hair and glanced up. “ Why don’t you come outside with me, Ally?” her mother
asked. “The birds are nesting (筑巢) in the woods. By this time last year you had already taken dozens of pictures.”更多全科试卷及资料,请关注公众号:高中试卷君
But she knew bird watching wouldn’t be the same this year. How could it be? Ally wondered. Ever since she could
remember she and Dad had been a team, searching the woods for the special wood warbler (林中莺). “I’ll be out in
a while, I promise,” she answered.
After her mother left, Ally reached for the photo album she and Dad had put together. On the cover was a
photo of a tiny orange bird with blue-gray wings and black eyes. Dad cut it from a local newspaper. Ally smiled,
remembering the excited look on Dad’s face when he showed her the pretty bird.
“I can’t believe someone spotted (发现) this little guy way up here in New Jersey,” he said. “Wood warblers
are usually found in the south, not this far north. I bet if we search real hard, Ally, we’ll see this little guy together
someday.”
Ally leaned her head back and closed her eyes, letting her mind wander. She loved thinking about the times
she and Dad had spent searching the woods for the little bird. They’d never spotted the warbler, but her father had
an amazing way of making each outing seem special. He was her best friend, and when they were together Ally felt
comfortable, “If only I could get that good feeling back,” she thought, sighing.
Staring at the bird, suddenly, she knew exactly what she had to do. Waving goodbye to her mom, she placed
her camera around her neck and hurried outside. “Please let me see the warbler,” she murmured to herself. She gave
her worried Mom a kiss and then set off into the woods.

People think animals are stupid, that they don’t understand kindness and that they can’t feel trust, or gratitude,
or love. But I know they’re wrong and I have the evidence I need. It happened on a winter night, when a duck
climbed up the stairs to save his sister.
That day, the temperature had suddenly dropped sharply, with cold winds blowing strongly and big snow
falling. It wasn’t until late afternoon that we remembered our two ducks were still at our poorly built small farm.
“Have they died due to the cold?” we wondered, worried.
My mother and I hurried to the farm and luckily found they were still alive. Their body was covered with
snow; they were too cold to even quack. They stayed close together for warmth. We decided to take them home.
Once back in the warm house, we made a nest for them in the basement, using newspaper and towels, and brought
them food and water. The ducks gathered together in the warm basement. Near their nest, there were fishing nets
we had carelessly left. We didn’t realize that could be a danger to them.
We just decided to leave the ducks alone to warm up and recover. We knew they had enough food and water,
so we didn’t go down to the basement again that afternoon. That evening we were reading by the fire in the living
room when we heard a strange sound coming from the basement. There was kind of a strange noise, then a pause
(停顿), and then the strange sound again-over and over.
“Could that be the ducks?” my mother asked my father. Curious about that, we stood up and went to find out.
It was indeed the ducks- at least one of them. We found the duck brother was standing on the second-highest step,
beating his wings for balance. He gathered his strength and made the difficult leap to the highest step, the source of
the strange noise

I sat at the breakfast table with my four-year-old son, Matthew, trying to ignore the ache in my stomach.
“Mama, want to play?” “Not today, baby,” I shook my head. These days I could barely get out of bed. I was still
recovering from a surgery. I hoped for strength and happiness. But the future seemed so hopeless.
Suddenly, Matthew jumped up from his spot on the kitchen floor. “Bird!” he shouted, rushing to our courtyard.
Sure enough, there was a white dove (鸽子) seated in a rubber tree. It sat there for a few moments, and then flew
away. Strange, I’d never seen one in our neighborhood before.
When I dragged myself to the kitchen the next morning, the dove was back. This time with a mate carrying
twigs (小枝). “Look, Matthew,” I said, pointing to the tree. “They’re going to make a nest.” The doves flew in and
out of the courtyard all week, building on top of the rubber tree.
Matthew could hardly contain his excitement. Every morning, he’d run into the kitchen and take his spot by
the sliding glass door, talking to the birds while they worked. His enthusiasm was influential. As much as I was
grieving, I couldn’t help but look forward to the doves’ visits too.
Then it all went wrong. The courtyard was a safe enough spot for a nest, but the rubber tree’s broad, thin
leaves were far from stable. One night, a strong wind blew, throwing the doves’ nest to the ground. I heard the twigs
break apart.
I surveyed the damage. Nothing good ever lasts. I wouldn’t blame the doves if they never came back. But they
returned. And they paid no attention to the pile of sticks that had once been their nest. They started again from
scratch. Again, though, the wind destroyed all their hard work. The next day, and the next, they renewed their
efforts, as if nothing had happened.

This story happened in a small village in North America, where a disabled boy named Tom lived with his
parents. When Tom was born, his right leg was a little twisted (变形的). When Tom could neither walk nor stand
upright for two years, his parents took him to a doctor. After a careful examination, the doctor said complete
recovery was impossible. So the doctor made a structure of iron rods (杆) that could be tied through Tom’s shoe to
a belt over his knee. With the help of the structure, Tom could stand properly and walk at times, and his life became
a little easier than before. But one thing always bothering him was that he could not play like other children,
although he was still happy.
On the way to Tom’s school, there was a small flower shop. Its owner was a kind old man. In this shop, there
lived his five small pet puppies. One of the puppies was lame (瘸的). It always dragged its leg and followed the rest
of the puppies. Tom often stood in front of this flower shop after school and watched the puppies. Of the five, Tom
liked that little lame puppy most.
One day, Tom saw a board hanging in front of the shop. It read “Puppies for Sale at $50” Tom went straight
into the shop. Pointing at the lame puppy, he asked the old man to sell it to him. Tom took a $5 note out of his
pocket and gave it to the old man. “I only have $5 now and you keep it. I’ll pay 50 cents a month for the rest,” Tom更多全科试卷及资料,请关注公众号:高中试卷君
said. “But it is a puppy which will limp for the rest of its life. It will never be able to run with you or play with you
in the park. Do you still want to buy it?” the old man asked in surprise.
Tom told the old man firmly, “Yes, I want this puppy.” Then the old man returned Tom’s $5 and said, “If you
want this puppy, I’ll give it to you for free.”

My husband gave me a surprise gift for Christmas-a gift that, at the time, seemed strange. It was something I
would never have chosen for myself and would never have expected him to give me. He gave me a little bird, a
cute, colourful conure (鹦哥).
She often bit me at first, but she quickly became the sweetest, most beautiful little creature and she brightened
up every day. I looked forward every morning to her crawling under the collar of my bathrobe for a warm hug and a
chirp (啁啾) in my ear.
A few months ago, I would never have imagined myself owning a bird, but now she had wrapped her little self
firmly around my heart.更多全科试卷及资料,请关注公众号:高中试卷君
A couple days ago, she seemed a little off, not quite herself. She was struggling to fly. So, I brought her to the
vet (兽医), and she was much more ill than I could have imagined. Her situation was serious, but she made it
through the night. After a couple days of slow improvement, when it was starting to look like she was almost out of
the woods, her condition suddenly took a turn for the worse.
I was shocked. I cried all the way to the vet to take care of her. This little, lively spirit became an important
part of my life, but suddenly she fell ill so seriously.
When I walked into the clinic, I saw a woman with a girl, who must have been around 12 years old. She
looked sad, carrying a cage with a sick bird in it. I didn’t want to disturb the girl, so I tried to be quiet while talking
to the woman behind the counter. However, it was clear that the girl heard our talk. She knew I arrived to take my
sick bird home to look after her by myself. She showed great concern and pity to me. When I was leaving with my
