Henry tells the story of beautiful literary agent Nora, who goes on vacation with her sister to the small town of Sunshine
Falls. There, she meets one of the people she knows from the city, a book editor with whom she has a special past. They're
thrown together again and again in a series of coincidental meetings, and you are left with a thoroughly entertaining and
heartwarming read.

The recent wildfires in California had negative effects on many communities, including the students and staff of Paradise
High School in Paradise, Calif. Many students and staff members lost their homes in the fire, which either destroyed or
significantly damaged eight of the nine school buildings in the district.
However, it wasn't all bad news for the students and staff members, who were also the benefactors of an extremely
generous businessman who saw an opportunity to help. That man was Bob Wilson, a 90-year-old real estate developer who
decided that he was going to personally help each and every member of the school district.
Wilson, who also owns restaurants and does business out of San Diego, arrived at Paradise High School last week with
two briefcases filled with $1,000 checks. Each of the check had a specific name on it:the name of a high school student or
staff member at the school. Nobody was left out. Wilson's gesture would be extended to 98students along with 105 employees.
Janitors(看门工), teachers, bus drivers, and office workers were all included.
Wilson even thought about the best way to go about giving out the gifts so that each person could get the maximum
possible benefit from his generosity. Originally, he was working with local non-profit organizations s that he could purchase
gift cards, but he thought better of it since he realized that cash would be more helpful t many. He decided to give out checks
so that the recipients could spend the money as they see fit.
“I made the decision within two or three minutes of reading the news, that I would like to give these kids
something,”Wilson explained to NBC News.“So they could have some good times and I could put a smile on their faces and
maybe lift their spirits.”

loved clothes for a can of Camden's new winter seasonal: Chilly, Cold IPA—so you can do your bit to save clothes from
going to landfill and be rewarded with a refreshing drink in the process. And today's the day for Londoners looking to
exchange pre-loved clothes for free beers—so take that box of clothes you've been meaning to donate to the local charity
shop, and head on down to the van(面包车).
Touring Manchester, Leeds and London from November 15-17, Camden and TRAID will be stationing their van at the
heart of each city, ready for consumers to come down and donate any unworn or pre-loved clothing this Chilly season.
Encouraging consumers to shop more sustainably this winter, the Camden Chilly TRAID Off aims to freeze out waste, while
giving people good beer for a good cause.
Research from TRAID has found that 300,000 tonnes of clothing end up in landfill every year in the UK—of which it is
estimated 40% is in reusable condition. Camden is encouraging British people to take another look at the estimated 1.6 billion
pieces of unworn clothing in their wardrobes this winter and think about how we shop as we head towards the festive
period.

Over 50 million learners rely on Duolingo every month to teach them a second language. With a simple user interface
(界面) and fun-but-competitive leaderboards, Duolingo supports 40 languages across 100+ courses.Learners advance from

If a learner wants to advance beyond basic skills, it's helpful to understand the rules of grammar. But true skill in a
language requires conversation, ideally with a native speaker, something not everyone has access to.
“Artificial intelligence has always been a huge part of our strategy,” says principal product manager Edwin Bodge.“We
had been using it for personalizing lessons and running Duolingo English Tests. But there were gaps in a learner's journey
that we wanted to fill: conversation practice, and contextual feedback on mistakes.”
Duolingo engineers had tried using GPT-3 to supply some of the human-powered features in its earlier chat feature.“It
was close to being ready,”said lead engineer Bill Peterson,“but we didn't feel it was at the point where we could confidently
combine it to handle the complex automated aspects of chats.”
Previously, Duolingo attempted to “chat” with learners through scripted(有稿子的) conversations including classic
situations like ordering food, meeting someone for the first time, or buying a plane ticket. But Bodge says what Duolingo
needed was the ability to converse with learners in niche contexts and“immersively”——to have a free-flowing conversation
about basketball or the extreme happiness of reaching the top of a mountain. GPT-4 has learned from enough public data to
create a flexible back and forth for the learner.
“GPT-4 gives us far more confidence in the accuracy of AI responses in Explain My Answer,” says Peterson.With the
new features, learners will be able to click“Explain My Answer”, and GPT-4 will give an initial response.From there, the
learner can return to the lesson, or get further explanation, and GPT-4 can dynamically(动态地)update. Duolingo will gauge
the quality of GPT-4's responses by how deep the learner needs to go before returning to the lesson.
