However, some parents still don’t want their children to use smart watches too much. In their opinion, wearing
smart watches for a long time may cause health problems. They think the teenagers are under the radiation all the
time. It’s harmful to teenagers.
Each coin (硬币) has two sides. Use it or not? It’s up to you.

学科网(北京)股份有限公司NEW YORK - Salt Lake City is most likely to be awarded the 2034 Winter Olympics later this year, and
officials said that its complete infrastructure (基础设施) and enthusiastic public support are what has paved the way.
Utah’s capital city hosted the Games back in 2002 and International Olympic Committee representatives recently
toured the city and heard plans for its “no-build” Games.
No other cities are in the running for the 2034 Games, Salt Lake City 2034 and France 2030 were picked as
preferred hosts for the Winter Olympics in November. “They got an opportunity to see our venues and how they are
still thriving (兴旺),” Catherine Raney-Norman, chair of the Salt Lake City - Utah Committee for the Games, said in
an interview, “They left excited by what they had seen. It was extremely positive.”
While other cities have soured on the idea of hosting an Olympics for fears of cost that may be much higher
than planned or expected, that is not the case in Salt Lake City, where the legacy (遗产) of the 2002 Games continues
to exist. “Our investigation has shown that we have over 80 percent public support,” said Raney-Norman, a four-time
Olympic speed skater. “That’s amazing. And we’ve had that consistently for the past 20 years.”
The Winter Olympics have grown by about 40 percent, with more sports added since Salt Lake City hosted
them, but the city can handle the additional action, Raney-Norman said. “We know that, within our venues and with
our technical side, we can host those events,” Raney-Norman said. New events could be held at a temporary
downtown venue, while the University of Utah will serve as the athletes’ village, she said.
Salt Lake City initially wanted to bid for the 2030 Games, but dropped those plans due to its proximity (靠近)
to the 2028 Summer Olympics in Los Angeles. “As we look to a future award, and Salt Lake hopefully being
officially named as host for 2034, we see opportunities as we continue to cooperate,” Raney-Norman said. “This is an
opportunity to promote the Olympic and Paralympic movement in the United States, and that requires cooperation.”
25.What does the underlined phrase “sour on” in Paragraph 3 probably mean?
A.Have a great influence on. B.Come up with.
C.Lose interest in. D.Take a positive attitude toward.
26.What did Raney-Norman mainly convey in the fourth paragraph?
A.How to raise money for the games. B.How to construct the venues.
C.How to win local people’s support. D.How to adapt to the changes.
27.Why did Salt Lake City give up the plans to apply for the 2030 Games?
A.The city may not be ready for the games before 2030.
B.Only two years will be left after the Olympics in Los Angeles.
C.International Olympic Committee representatives suggested them do so.
D.France might have a bigger chance to be picked as the host for the games.
28.What can be a suitable title for the news report?
A.Salt Lake City expected to hold 2034 Winter Olympic Games

Every six days, students at Hite Elementary School get an extra 50 minutes of math-focused instruction. They
play simple math games and count aloud to learn number recognition — it’s all done in Chinese.
Principal Tim Hagan said Chinese language instruction enhances the school’s existing Singapore Math
curriculum (课程), which attributes (归因) the math skill gap between Chinese — and English-speaking students to
language differences and the way students understand numbers.
The National Center for Education Statistics (NCES) conducts a study every four years to compare the math
ability of students from more than 50 countries. For the past 20 years, students in Chinese-speaking countries have
routinely outperformed those in English-speaking countries. “One of the reasons that Chinese students have done
well in math is their language itself automatically breaks apart numbers into tens and ones,” said Hite Chinese teacher
Emily Smith. “We’re having to teach kids to do that because our language doesn’t do it automatically.”
For the 2022-23 school year, Hite provided $60,000 school-based funds to purchase and follow the Singapore
Math curriculum, which math teachers taught in English. Students learned to count the “say ten way” — where
“eleven” became “ten one” and twelve became “ten two”.
Offering Chinese language instruction is just taking it one step further, Smith said. In Chinese, the “say ten
way” is how numbers are naturally learned and spoken, she explained, adding that saying “twenty” in Chinese is like
saying “two ten”.
Hagan called the Chinese system more efficient than English in getting students to visualize, understand and
calculate numbers. He has already seen improvement. Standardized test scores released earlier this month revealed
the school’s “greatest increase in performance was in kids who have trouble in math”.
Students also responded positively to Chinese instruction. Fourth-grade student Anna Kersting, 9, said she felt
learning numbers in Chinese was easy. “You use all the same numbers from one to 99.” she said.
29.What has the NCES study found?
A.Chinese-speaking students excel in math.
B.English students have made great progress in math.
C.Breaking numbers apart is helpful for learning math.
D.Students’ language ability determines their math ability.
30.What did Smith say about the “say ten way”?

Our preferred park is a 2km walk from my house and it has a 1km walking track. I could not drive him there
every day as I had to leave for the office while at the same time he wanted to set out. Since there were hardly any
footpaths in Karachi, my father said he was delighted to walk on the road as he was certain there wouldn’t be much
traffic in the morning.
Though I kept him informed that our house was near the park and was made of red bricks in case he got lost, I
was still less confident so I suggested it would be safer if changed his walk time to the evening. That way I could take
him to the park after work. However, my father — a determined person — said that he could not change his routine
for just a few days and insisted that he would be leaving the house every day at 7 am and returning by 8 am. So one
day when he had not returned by 8:30 am, my wife, Qaisa phoned me in a panic Worried, I immediately drove home,
taking the same route that my father would have taken for his walk.
Not spotting him anywhere, I drove back to the park, in the hone of discovering some trace, but in vain. Totally
at a loss for what to do next, I returned home and waited impatiently, walking back and forth in the house.

Will human teachers be replaced by AI teachers?
While AI teachers have several advantages, such as personalized learning experiences, 24/7 availability,
and instant feedback, there are also notable disadvantages. For instance, AI lacks the emotional intelligence and
empathy that human teachers possess. Additionally, the social aspect of learning, which is facilitated by human
teachers, cannot be replicated by AI.
In my view, AI teachers can complement human teachers by handling repetitive tasks and providing
personalized learning paths, but they cannot completely replace the unique qualities and interpersonal skills of
human educators.
67. At 10:35 am the doorbell rang and my father stood outside the door smiling, accompanied by a young
man. My father explained that he had gotten lost during his walk and ended up quite far from home. The young
man, who had found my father wandering and looking confused, kindly offered to help. After listening to my
father describe where he lived, the good fellow decided it was best to personally ensure his safe return rather than
risk miscommunication over the phone or with directions.
After knowing what had happened, I showed my appreciation of the young man’s kindness. I thanked him
genuinely, touched by his generosity and concern for an elderly stranger. We invited him in for tea, but he politely
declined, stating that he was glad to have been able to assist and that he needed to get back to his own schedule.
His selfless act reminded us of the goodness in people and reinforced the importance of community spirit. We saw
the young man off, and I made sure to discuss with my father about carrying an emergency contact card during his
future outings.
