① Do you know what my favorite festival is ? It is the Chongyang Festival.
The Chongyang Festival is a traditional Chinese festival. It is celebrated on the ninth
day of the ninth lunar month. Besides, it comes during the prime time of the autumn.
Most Chinese people also call it the Double Ninth Festival. Now let me introduce you
something about the festival.
② First of all, let me tell you the origin of the festival. the festival started as
early as the Warring States Period (475-221BC). It has a history of more than 1,700
years. Among the numbers from zero to nine, nine is the highest odd number(奇数).
People believe that two “ninths” meeting together stand for a long life.
③ Secondly, let me tell you what people usually do on that day. They hold many
kinds of activities in honor of old people to wish them good health and a long life. For
example, people often climb the mountains, admire chrysanthemums and go to the old
people’s home to help the old. What’s more, people also carry a kind of plant. its
name is dogwood. People in ancient times believed that the plant could drive away
evil spirits and prevent them from catching an illness in winter.
④ Thirdly, let me tell you what people usually have on that day. people
traditionally drink chrysanthemum(菊花) wine, eat Double-Ninth Cakes.
⑤ Fourthly, the true meaning of the festival is that it is a special holiday for
Chinese people to show love and respect for their elders.
⑥ All in all, it is my favorite festival because it makes me feel warm. And I
realize the importance of respecting the old.
