四、阅读理解The world is very beautiful with many beautiful mountains and long rivers. My favourite
mountain is Mount Qomolangma. I knew it from my geography book in the last geography class.
And I always want to climb it.
Qomolangma is higher than any other mountain in the world. It’s in the southwest of China.
It is over 8,840 metres high. Qomolangma means “the mother of the Earth” in Tibetan (藏语).
There is snow all year round at the top of it. The scenery is also very beautiful. Every year
there are many Chinese and foreign people coming here to visit it. They all want to climb to the
top of it, but not everyone can do it. The first Chinese mountaineering team (登山队) successfully
climbed Mount Qomolangma in 1960.
Mountaineering is a very dangerous sport in the world, but many people like the sport very
much. One of the main reasons is that people want to challenge themselves in the face of
difficulties (困难).
I decided to study hard to get a clearer understanding of Mount Qomolangmaand
mountaineering. And I will try to build up my body. I believe I'll climb the mountain one day.
