The Inuit people of North America used to be called Eskimos. 1 Their lives have changed
a lot in 30 years.
The Inuit people used to live in igloos （冰屋）in winter, but today, many of them live in
houses in small towns. They used to hunt seals （海豹）. 2 Many of them still wear seal-skin
clothes today because they are very warm. Remember, the weather is very cold for many months
of the year.
Mariano Tagalik, a 65-year-old Inuit, told us a little about her past life. “Our winter igloos
were very warm. We cooked inside, so sometimes it got too hot. 3 In the short summers, we
lived in seal-skin tents, but I spent as much time as possible playing outside. ”
To move over the snow, Inuit people wore special snowshoes on their feet. 4 These

This is a story that happened in the south of Russia. A mother woke up one day and found
that her body couldn't move. She was sent to the hospital and soon she knew that she couldn't
move because of a sudden illness. In doctors' opinion, she had no hope of getting well.
Then, the son gave up his job, and brought his mother back to the country. He worked there
as a farmer and stayed beside his mother day and night, keeping massaging(按摩) her arms and
legs.
Because of her son's care, the mother decided to pick herself up. So she kept trying and trying
to move her fingers. And one day about six months later, she succeeded!
Her son's care and love helped her to get well little by little. During the next two years, she
could even move her body and not long after that, she had been able to take the very first step!
And after five years, she was even able to dance with the children of the village, and by now she
has fully recovered and become a dance teacher."I believe in the power(力量) of love," the son said. "I never stopped believing that she
would walk again." The true story just shows us an example of the power of love and that a
miracle(奇迹) does happen.
