TV host and children’s book writer Markette Sheppard has always been a good storyteller. In

that helps children find courage.
Ninja Nate is about a ninja young boy named Nate who has a robotic leg because of a recent
accident. Because he thinks other kids will tease him, he wears a ninja costume to hide his leg. In
the story, Nate realizes that if he wants others to accept his difference, he has to embrace it first.Sheppard grew up in Los Angeles, California, and wanted to be a news reporter from a young
age. She told the reporter that she would create news reports and ask her dad to film her works.
After graduating with a master’s degree in journalism(新闻)from American University in
Washington D.C. Sheppard became the host of Great Day, Washington, CBS’s morning show in
Washington D.C. It was a “dream job,” she said.
She decided to try writing a book after becoming a parent. “I wanted to do something more and
tell different types of stories,” she said.

Recently, keeping pets has become more and more popular in China, especially among the
young. According to the research, cats are the fastest growing group among all pet animals. Some
may think it has something to do with the cute appearance of cats. However, as far as I know, there
are quite a few more reasons behind why young people today are choosing to become “cat
servants”.
For starters, young people are under great social pressure and communicate less with others.
As a result, many of them may experience feelings of loneliness when they are at home. So
having a pet in your home can be a nice choice. After a long day’s work, you can feel less lonely by
knowing that there’s going to be a living thing there waiting to greet and spend time with you. Petscan give you a sense of being needed. You can always tell your sorrows to cheer yourself up, or
share your secrets with them.
Then, why do people keep cats instead of dogs? Because cats have several advantages over
dogs. For example, cats don’t need to be walked like dogs, and often, cats keep themselves cleaner.
Cats are also more independent than dogs, which allows cat owners to spend more time on their
own hobbies and to stay with them freely. Moreover, cats are quiet animals. As a senior high
school student, I preferred to share my bad feelings with friends. But anyway, keeping a cat is
amazing and you can always give it a try.
( )23.What does the underlined word “sorrows” mean?
A.Sadness B.Kindness C.Happiness D.Brightness
( )24.How does the writer explain the reason why people keep cats instead of dogs?
A.By asking questions. B.By listing numbers.
C.By telling a story. D.By giving examples.
( )25.What does the writer think of keeping a cat?
A.Doubtful B.Worried C.Agreeable D.Hopeful
( )26.What’s the best title of the passage?
A. Experiences of Being Cat Owners. B.Reasons behind the Rise of
Cat Servants
C.Problem of Keeping Pets. D.Advice on How to Keep
Cats.
