Staffan Lindeberg is a medical teacher at the University of Lund in Sweden. He was interested in a Stone Age
diet. In the early 1990s, he began to study the diet of the people on the island of Kitava as it was very close to the
Stone Age diet. While there, he found that people did not suffer from (患有) heart attacks, diabetes (糖尿病), being
overweight and many other diseases common in western countries.
As a result of his findings, he decided to test patients in Sweden to see how such a diet would affect them.
Fourteen patients followed a Stone Age diet while another fifteen followed a Mediterranean diet, also healthy with
lots of fruit and vegetables. All of the patients in the tests had high blood sugar levels, most suffered from diabetes
and all had heart problems.
At the end of three months, the group following the Mediterranean diet had reduced their blood sugar levels by
a small amount but those following the Stone Age diet had much lower levels of sugar in their blood. The patients
in both groups also lost weight although the level of sugar in the blood and the patients’ weight didn’t seem to berelated.
So, what is it about the Stone Age diet that can make us healthier? The diet contains (包含) some meat, fish,
vegetables and nuts (坚果) but it doesn’t contain any milk products or wheat, and there is no salt.
The next question is whether the Kitava people are healthier than us. After all, their life expectancy (预期寿
命) is much lower. According to Staffan Lindeberg, this is not as simple as we may think. Because of their poor
healthcare, there is more chance of them dying at a young age. However, if people on Kitava manage to reach fifty,
they are likely to live as long as people in more developed countries.
56.What does the underlined word “them” refer to (指代) in Paragraph 2?
A.Staffan Lindeberg’s findings. B.Patients in Sweden.
C.Diseases in western countries. D.People on the island of Kitava.

A.The Stone Age diet could reduce blood sugar levels.
B.The Mediterranean diet could help treat diabetes.
C.The Mediterranean diet could help people lose weight quickly.
D.High blood sugar levels could cause people to lose weight.
58.Which of the following picture show the Stone Age diet?
A. B. C. D.
59.The Kitava people have lower life expectancy because of ________.
A.unhealthy eating habits B.poor living environment
C.poor medical condition D.a serious disease at a young age
60.What is the writer’s purpose in writing the text?
A.To compare two different diets. B.To tell people a latest study on diets.
C.To prove the Stone Age diet is healthy. D.To introduce a healthy but forgotten eating habit.

If you see someone fall down suddenly, perhaps as a result of a heart attack, what can you do while you wait
for professional help?
Chen Wenqiaochu set a good example when he was fourteen. He performed CPR (心肺复苏术) on a staff
person at his school, saving the man’s life in 2013. According to medical experts, there is a “golden period” — the
first four minutes of a heart attack. During this time, CPR is best for saving the person’s life.In August, 2020, all public schools nationwide were asked to provide CPR courses in China, as part of health
education. CPR is not hard to grasp. All that one needs to know is how to watch and decide if a person has a heart
attack, where to press on the patient’s chest (胸), and how to blow air through the mouth and into the lungs (肺) .
Unluckily, less than one percent of Chinese adults have mastered the skill of CPR, while many have never
heard of it. A 2019 survey from China Youth Daily showed that although 64.6% of schools opened health education
courses, the teaching results were not satisfactory.
Zhao Shengyu, a graduate from a high school, remembered her first time to be taught CPR in the class. “No
model, video or practice was included. I realized the acts I had been taught had lots of mistakes after I was trained
another time in a medical school,” she said. According to her own experience, Zhao said more professional CPR
courses in schools were necessary.
Most countries have attached importance to CPR training. It was shown in a survey in 2017 that more than
half of Americans had received CPR training. Switzerland, Germany, France and some other countries have also
provided CPR training.
61.What is the “golden period” according to the passage?
A.The first four minutes after CPR.
B.The first four minutes before CPR.
C.The first four minutes of a heart attack.
D.The first four minutes before a heart attack.
62.What does the underlined word “grasp” in the passage probably mean?
A.Spread widely.
B.Understand completely.
C.Repeat carefully.
D.Think differently.
63.Why was more professional CPR training necessary according to Zhao Shengyu?
A.Because most students had never heard of CPR.
B.Because lots of countries provided CPR training.
C.Because her first CPR learnings had lots of mistakes.
D.Because experts advised students to master the skill of CPR.
64.Which is the right time order of the following facts?
①Chen Wenqiaochu saved a staff person at his school.
②All public schools were asked to provide CPR courses in China.③It was reported that 64.6% of schools opened health education courses.

65.What does the passage mainly talk about?

B.The people saved by CPR in China.

Can Water Poison (使……中毒) You?
Water plays an important role in keeping you healthy. This should come as no surprise. Much of your body is
made up of water, after all. It keeps your body working properly. 66 Water poisoning happens when people
drink too much water. This lowers the level of sodium (钠) in their blood to dangerous levels. 67 As a
result, a lot of things will go seriously wrong in your body.
Your brain may begin to swell (肿胀). You may get a headache, feel very tired and want to throw up. You may
even lose consciousness (意识). 68 You will need to be rushed to a hospital right away.
Protecting yourself from water poisoning may seem easy—just don’t drink too much water, right? In some
situations, however, this is easier said than done.
69 For years, we have been told to drink eight glasses of water a day. But in fact, how much water we
need is different for each person. Today, most doctors are telling people that they should drink water whenever they
feel thirsty.
We can’t live without water. 70 Staying healthy is all about staying balanced!
A.In these cases, water poisoning can be deadly.
B.So, how much water should a person drink each day?
C.Neither can we live with too much water in our bodies.
D.But do you know that too much water can poison you?E.Too little sodium in your body can make your cells swell.

The Chinese lunar calendar divides the year into 24 solar terms. The Grain in Ear, also known 81
Mangzhong, is the ninth solar term of the year and the 82 (three) one of the summer. It usually falls
between June 5 and 7. The word Mangzhong is a pun (双关语) on “busy planting” in Chinese, which 83
/Ig'zæktli/ describes how farmers’ life is during this period of time. During Grain in Ear, long hours of sunshine
along with warm and humid ocean air, which brings rainfall, 84 (provide) much needed heat and water
for summer crops. Therefore, farmers in China will welcome one of the 85 (busy) periods for agricultural
activities. From the north to the south, farmers are busy harvesting summer wheat and planting various crops, such
as rice, beans, and sweet 86 (potato). As rainfall increases, the middle and lower reaches of the Yangtze
River will enter the plum rain season. It refers to 87 long period of rainy or cloudy weather. Frequent rain
makes the weather hot and w 88 , and it is the right time for plums (梅子) to ripen. That just explains the
origin of its name.
During this season, people are encouraged to eat less lamb, pork, hot peppers, onions and ginger if they often
