No one is born a winner. People make themselves into winners by their own efforts.
I learned this 1 from an experience many years ago. I took the head coaching job at a school in
Baxley, Georgia. It was a small school with a weak football program.
It was a tradition for the school’s old team to play against the new team at the end of spring practice. The old
team had no coach, and they didn’t even 2 for the game. Being the coach of the new team, I was 3
because I knew we were sure to win. But unluckily, we were defeated (打败). I couldn’t believe I had got into such
a situation. Thinking hard about it, I came to 4 that my team might not be the number one team in
Georgia, but they were depending on me. I had to change my attitude (态度) about their 5 .
I started doing anything I could to help them build confidence. The most 6 thing is that I began to
treat them like winners. That summer, when the other teams enjoyed their vacations, we met every day and 7
passing and kicking the football.
Six months after suffering (遭受) our defeat, we won our first game and our second, and continued to improve.8 , we faced the number one team. I felt that we would be winners even if we lost the game. But that wasn’t
what happened. My boys beat the best team in Georgia, giving me the most exciting moment of my life!
From the experience, I learned a lot about how the attitude of the leader can make a 9 to a team.
Instead of seeing my boys as losers, I 10 and encouraged them. I helped them to see themselves
differently and they built themselves into winners.
Winners are made, not born.

The pace of change in smart transportation has been rapid, leading to the development of new applications (应
用) for smart cities in China.
In recent years, Chinese technology companies have worked hard to speed up the commercial (商业的) use of
robotaxis. In March, Beijing granted autonomous driving permits to tech giant Baidu and self-driving startup Pony
ai to run fully driverless robotaxis on open roads. In June, Baidu carried out its driverless ride-hailing (打车)service in Shenzhen, Guangdong. Its Apollo Go robotaxis have been put into use across an area of 188 square
kilometers in Shenzhen from 7 am to 10 pm daily.
Passengers can download apps like Apollo Go or Baidu Map to their smartphones, and tell the app where they
are and where they want to go. Then, a car will appear. With sensors (传感器) and cameras placed all over the car, a
computer takes full control of the drive. A screen on the back seats shows how the robotaxi’s software looks at the
space around the car to see other cars, humans, bikes, and anything else that might get in its way.
“The robotaxi goes at about the same speed, providing a good driving experience,” a user posted on
Xiaohongshu. As of the first quarter of 2023, the user satisfaction rating for the Apollo Go app has reached 4.9 out
of 5, with the latest data (数据) showing that 97.12 percent of the reviews are five-star ratings.
Meanwhile, drivers in the city can also enjoy the conveniences of smart transportation. In Guiyang, Guizhou,
at some smart parking lots, drivers only need to park their cars at an induction line (感应线). A smart system (系统)
can put the vehicles into a specific (特定的) area. When drivers want to retrieve their cars, they make a request on
the terminal device (终端设备) and the car will come out of the parking lot by itself in about one minute.
All in all, smart transportation uses new technologies to make moving around a city easier and safer.

Artificial intelligence, or AI, is not just about writing texts or making pictures anymore. OpenAI has created a
new tool called Sora. With just a sentence, Sora can make your words turn into a video. The videos look good and
closely follow what you want them to show.
Sora is better than many other tools that do similar things. It can make videos that fit different screens, like big
TVs or the tall screens on our phones. This means it can make many kinds of videos. It also lets people try out theirideas in a simple video before making a better-quality one, which makes things faster.
What’s really cool about Sora is how it can make videos look real and smooth. It can show places with people,
movements, and backgrounds in detail, even changing the scene within the same video. Sora knows how things
should look in the real world. For example, if a woman walks by water, you can see her reflection change.
Sora works so well because it has a helper named ChatGPT. ChatGPT can turn simple sentences into detailed
instructions, making the videos more accurate to what people want.
But, Sora isn’t perfect. It might get confused with complex movements or how things change after an action.
Like, if someone bites a cookie in a video, the cookie might not look right. Sora might also mix up left and right or
get the order of events wrong. This might happen because Sora learns about videos piece by piece and doesn’t
always understand how they fit together.
Right now, Sora is still being tested. OpenAI is asking people who know a lot about internet safety to try and
find problems with Sora to make it better. They’ve also let some artists and movie makers try Sora so they can give
advice on how to improve it.
21. What is the main focus of paragraphs 2-3?
A. Sora’s evolution.(创新能力) B. Sora’s diversity.(多样性)
C. Sora’s advantage. D. Sora’s technology.
22. How does ChatGPT contribute to Sora’s abilities?
A. By showing user input. B. By providing verbal feedback(口头反馈).
C. By analyzing sample videos. D. By improving video quality.
23. Why does the author provide the example in paragraph 5?
A. To highlight Sora’s potential (潜在的)safety risks.
B. To show Sora’s existing limitations.
C. To show Sora’s perfect performance.
D. To explain the concept of a spacetime patch.
24. What can we know about Sora up to now?
A. It has been used in various industries.
B. Its commercial release has been called off.
C. It has exposed alarming securityproblems.
D. It is being tested and improved.
25.What’s the main idea of this article?
A . Introduction to Open AI’s Sora, a new AI tool for making videosB. The challenges of using Sora for video production
C. The perfection of Sora in creating realistic videos
D. The limitations of Sora and ongoing efforts to improve it
第二节 短文填空
以下是一则短文, 请阅读短文, 并从下列六个句子中选择五个还原到原文中, 使原文的意思完整、连贯。
并在答题卡上将相应的字母编号涂黑。(共5 小题, 每小题1分)
Nobody likes making mistakes. But, no one is perfect. If you can learn from mistakes, they can move you
forward. 26
If you have made mistakes that harm other people, it is important to offer a sincere apology (道歉) in person.
27 If you refuse to apologize, the person hurt by you will hold it against you.
If you go through life afraid to make a mistake, you will spend most of your life doing nothing. People usually
make mistakes. 28 The more duties you take, the more likely you will make mistakes.
Unluckily, it is our natural instinct (本能) to justify (为……辩解) our actions. When you make a mistake, you
will first blame (责备) someone else. When mistakes are made, the boss is unlikely to be interested in your words.
Sometimes it is best to say, very simply-yes, I made a mistake.
Mistakes happen for different reasons. 29 If you make mistakes because you are tired, try to get more
sleep; if you are stressed, look at ways to relax and keep away from the stress of work.
You should avoid feeling guilty about making mistakes. 30 If you repeat the same mistakes, it shows you
aren’t making progress and they cause repeating trouble. Often mistakes are caused by bad habits. To avoid making
the same mistakes, you need to break these bad habits. The sooner, the better.
A.There is no harm in making mistakes, and it is a necessary part of going forward.
B.But at the same time, you should make a decision to learn from them.
C.A good apology will likely make the other person understand you.
D.Therefore, you should find out how you can learn from them.
E.You may have made a mistake by saying some unkind words.
F.To avoid repeating them, you need to find the main reason.
