Greetings Greet the students and have a brief chat about the weather and their mood today. 2. Lead-in Show some pictures of different activities on the PPT, such as playing badminton, cooking food, going swimming, etc. Ask the students: “What are these activities? Do you like to do them on weekends?” Then ask a few students to share their favorite weekend activities. (二)Presentation (10 minutes) 1. New words and phrases Present the new words and phrases in the unit by showing the pictures and doing actions. For example, for “played badminton”, show a picture of people playing badminton or act it out. Have the students repeat after the teacher. Ask the students to write the activities in the box under the pictures in 1a. Then check the answers together. Ask the students if they did any of these activities last weekend and have them share with the class. 2. Sentence patterns Present the sentence patterns “How was your weekend? What did you do?” on the PPT. Explain the usage of the simple past tense. Have the students make sentences with the new words and phrases using the sentence patterns. (三)Listening practice (10 minutes) 1. 1b Play the recording of the two conversations. Before listening, ask the students to read the questions in 1b and predict the possible answers. Play the recording twice. For the first time, the students just listen. For the second time, they listen and answer the questions. Check the answers with the students. 2. 1c Play the recording again. Have the students listen and write P for Peter or TF for Teng Fei for each activity. Check the answers and ask some students to explain their choices. (四)Pair work (8 minutes) 学科网(北京)股份有限公司1. Have the students talk about one of the conversations in 1b with a partner using the sentence patterns “How was Peter's/Teng Fei's weekend? It was... What did he/she do? Well, he/she...” 2. Invite several pairs to present their conversations to the class. (五)Pronunciation (8 minutes) 1. Listen and repeat Play the recording of the pronunciation part. Have the students listen and repeat the words in each group. Ask the students to notice the differences in the pronunciation of the letters and letter combinations. Add one more word to each group and have the students practice the pronunciation. 2. -(e)d pronunciation Play the recording of the -(e)d pronunciation. Have the students listen and repeat the words. Explain the rules of the -(e)d pronunciation: when the verb ends in a voiceless consonant (e.g. /p/, /k/, /t/, /f/, /s/, /ʃ/, /θ/), the -(e)d is pronounced as /t/; when the verb ends in a voiced consonant (e.g. /b/, /g/, /d/, /v/, /z/, /ʒ/, /ð/, /m/, /n/, /ŋ/, /l/, /r/) or a vowel, the -(e)d is pronounced as /d/; when the verb ends in /t/ or /d/, the -(e)d is pronounced as /ɪd/. Give some examples and have the students practice the pronunciation. (六)Summary and Homework (4 minutes) 1. Summary Summarize the key points of this lesson, including the new words, phrases, sentence patterns and pronunciation rules. Encourage the students to review what they have learned after class. 2. Homework Ask the students to write a short passage about their own weekend activities using the simple past tense.
