Have you ever heard the term “body image”? It means the way we 1 our own bodies and
how we feel about them. Some people have a good body image – they know that while their bodies
might not be the 2 , they are still healthy and happy.
But many others, especially (尤其) women, have a “ 3 ” view of their bodies. They feel
like they can never be thin enough.
I have seen this among my own girl friends. I often see them 4 about their weight on my

to 5 worrying and complaining, but it’s not really my place to do that.
This has been a 6 in the US and other countries for many years. But it seems to me that
Chinese women are more worried about their body image. Some of you may remember the “A4

Are you an “I” person or an “E” person? People have talked
about it a lot online recently. They are part of a popular personality
test called MBTI.
The MBTI test shows one’s personality in eight ways:
E:extroversion, I: introversion, S: sensing (感觉), N: intuition (直
觉), T: thinking, F: feeling, J: judging (判断) and P: perceiving (感
知). All the results have four letters, and there are results
in all. “I” and “E” are “introverted” and “extroverted”, respectively
(分别地).
Even if someone is typically quiet, many online discussions
show that an “I” person can still act outgoing at times. For example,
when an introverted person is with a group of introverted friends,
they might become more social like an “E” person.
Thinking on this, I may actually be the kind of person that these people are discussing. Most
times, I just wish to make everything more interesting and exciting and show people that I’m easy
to get along with. But deep down, I mostly enjoy being alone and quiet.
Using the MBTI result to tell someone’s personality seems fun. However, I went too far at one
time. My sister was excitedly making a day-to-day travel plan when I remembered from an article
that “P people” don’t like to make or follow plans, so I said to her, “You don’t seem like a ‘P person’.”
“Why?” she asked back. “Since when do I need to follow what my personality test tells me to do?”
It was then I knew I’d taken the result too seriously.
The MBTI personality test may show something you don’t know about yourself and can even
be a fun ice-breaker question when meeting new friends. And that’s all it is – for fun. Knowing
someone’s MBTI result doesn’t mean you really know this person. And those four letters of yours
don’t decide who you are.
4. What’s the correct number on the “ ” in Paragraph 2?
A. 2 B. 8 C. 16 D. 64
5. What is an “ I ” person like?
A. A person who is always easy to get along with.
B. A person who is more social than anybody else.
6C. A person who makes plans for everything and follow them.
D. A person who is quiet and shy but sometimes takes an active part.
6. What may be the best title of the passage?
A. Making the ideal match B. Getting to know about MBTI
C. Finding out who you really are D. Taking a free personality test online
C
“He must be here somewhere!”
Kevin Davidson covered his mouth and pressed (挤压) himself against the
wall of an old shop which no one would come. He tried to hide his thin body into
the grey concrete (混凝土) to make himself invisible. Difficult when you’re
wearing a red tracksuit.
It didn’t work.
“There he is!”
In the twilight, Kevin could just make out the
boy with the black hair who was pointing at him. Why
did he hate him? Kevin wondered. He had never seen
him before, never seen any of them. Yet here they
were, like a pack of crazy dogs drooling (流口水)
over him. Kevin threw himself forward and jumped
over a broken wall. They quickly ran after him. One,
two, three — more of them coming from everywhere.
“You can’t run from us,” one of them shouted, “You can’t hide.”
They were right. He didn’t know this part of town well enough to
hide from them. Where could he go? Where was safe?
Nowhere. Not here. Not for him.
He kept running without any stop, though his legs hurt and his heart
was pounding (连续重击). It was fear that kept him going. Why were they after him? What had he
ever done to them?
He was sure that these boys meant to do some serious kicking if they caught him.
But why?
Because he was new in town?
They were closing in on him. He looked behind quickly and almost yelled when he saw how
close they were. He rounded a corner and found himself heading for the car park underneath one of
the tall buildings. Maybe he could hide himself there. Find somewhere to get away or someone to
help him.
They were still behind him. He didn’t dare (敢) look to see how near, but he could hear their
feet pounding closer. If he didn’t find a hiding place in this car park, he was done for.

Sad but Beautiful
Last night, one of my Chinese friends took me to a special concert of Chinese folk (民间的)
music which I’ve never heard in my hometown Paris. The music was strangely beautiful, but under
the beauty I found it so sad and full of pain. I almost cried along with it as I listened. Later I looked
up the history of Erquan Yingyue, and I began to understand the sadness in the music.
The music was written by Abing, a folk musician who was born in the city of Wuxi in 1893.
His mother died when he was very young. Abing’s father taught him to play many musical
instruments (乐器), such as the drums, dizi and erhu, and by the age of 17, Abing was known for
his musical ability. However, after his father died, Abing’s life grew worse. He was very poor. Not
only that, he had a serious illness and became blind. For several years, he had no home. He lived on
the streets and played music to make money.
Abing’s amazing musical skills made him very popular during his lifetime. By the end of his
life, he could play over 600 pieces of music. It is a pity that only six pieces of music in total were
recorded for the future world to hear, but his popularity lasts. Today, Abing’s ErquanYingyue has
become one of China’s national treasures. It has a sad beauty that not only paints a picture of Abing’s
own life but also makes people recall their hardest time from their own saddest past.
1. What does the writer think of Abing’s music?
2. What did his father teach Abing to play?
3. What made Abing blind?
4. How many pieces of music by Abing can we hear today?
5. What made Abing popular in his life?
8(B) 阅读填空 先通读下面的短文,然后根据短文内容,在文章后表格的空格内填入一个最
恰当的单词。每个空格只能填一个单词。
As you know, homework is a big part of students’ school life. Luckily, here are several ways
for you to make homework easy.
Make a homework plan
Most middle school students have two or three hours of homework a night. If it is a heavy
homework day, it takes you even more time. It is a good idea to come up with some kind of
homework schedule, especially if you are going to do sports or other activities after school.
Watch where you work
A bedroom, a study or any room where you can get away from noise is good for you to do your
homework. But don’t study on your comfortable bed, or you might fall asleep there.
Take a break
Most people’s attention (注意力) doesn’t last very long, so it’s better to take some short breaks
while doing your homework. If you sit in front of your desk for too long but don’t relax, you will
be less productive (有成效的) than if you stop to take a break. Taking a 15-minute break every hour
is a good way for most people.
Get help when you need it
Sometimes even though you are listening carefully in class, some subjects seem too hard. The
first person to ask for help is your teacher. He or she may be able to work with you before or after
school and help you understand things more clearly. Your classmates may also be able to give you
a hand. However, this might not give you the results you want. Lots of people understand something
well but are not able to explain it.
