If you offer your cat a toy filled with catnip (樟脑草), its action might be quite funny and
silly. It may lie on its back, move wildly around, drool (流口水), bite the toy or touch it with its
faceandbody.
What’shappeninghere?Whatdoescatnipdotocats?
Catnip has strong stems (茎) with coarse – toothed leaves. The tips of the plant’s stems will
grow white or pink flowers. Catnip has a chemical called nepetalactone (荆芥内酯) in its leaves
and stems. When a cat smells the chemical, it will experience a strong sense of happiness. That
can last for about five to fifteen minutes, and then the cat loses interest and needs for about two
hoursof“reset”timebeforeitcanhavethesameaction.
However, catnip doesn’t work on all cats.About 75 percent of cats are influenced by catnip.
Young cats and older cats are less likely to be influenced. Catnip has been proved to influence
more thanjust house cats. Big cats, suchas lions andtigers, andhouses cats reactinsimilar ways
whentheysmellcatnip.
Catnip is completely safé. However, you shouldn’t let your cat smell catnip too often. Or it

1.allyearround 2.perfect 3.leadto 4.importance 5.natural
Whatdoyou
thinkof…?(what作think的宾语)/Howdoyoulike…?(how 修饰实意动词like), 所以B
Isawhimgointotheofficeamoment
ago.
1.(P69)Howmanytypesofcranesarethereintheworld?
2.(P68、P74)Ioftengotothemarkettowatchthebirds.

6.later later,
4. 句子the city ofAtlanta in Georgia hasroof temperature ofupto 50℃ 4 it is 27 ℃in
thestreets!

Para2“Herfourchildrenwerethere.”
2.C 参考Para3。

7.C that 前面的Whenacatsmellsthechemical,itwillexperienceastrongsenseofhappiness.
9.D 10.C 11.A 12.B 13.E
