1.In this much-travelled world, there are still thousands of places which are inaccessible (难接近
的；达不到的) to tourists.
inaccessible adj.难接近的，达不到的
access n.(运用高科技等手段)直接接触或使用
2.We always assume that villagers in remote places are friendly and hospitable (好客的).
hospitable adj. 好客的；(气候、环境等) 宜人的 同义词: friendly cordially 热诚的
3.But people who are cut off (切断) not only from foreign tourists, but even from their own
countrymen can be hostile (不友好的，有敌意的) to travellers.
cut off from 与…隔绝，老死不相往来
hostile adj. 不友好的，有敌意的~ attitude 敌意~ to/ towards 反对，对…有敌意

Even under a clear blue sky, the village looked forbidding, as all the houses were built of gray mud
bricks.

Men in shirt sleeves stood outside their houses and glared at us. Old women in black shawls peered
at us from doorways.
