范文讲解
She was dancing. My crippled (跛的) grandmother was dancing. I stood in the living
room doorway absolutely shocked.
I heard her sing when I opened the door but did not want to interrupt the beautiful
song by yelling I had arrived, so I just slid into the living room. I looked at how her still‐
lean body bent beautifully, her arms greeting the sunlight that was pouring through the
window. And her legs... Those legs that had stiffly walked, aided with a cane (拐杖),
insensible shoes as long as I could remember. Now she was wearing beautiful dancing
shoes and her legs obeyed her perfectly. No limping (蹒跚). No stiffness. She was the
star of the dancing world. And then she'd had her accident and it was all over. I had read
that in an old newspaper.
范文讲解
She turned around and saw me standing in the doorway. Her song ended, and her
beautiful movements with it, so abruptly that it felt like being shaken awake from a
beautiful dream. The sudden silence rang in my ears. Grandma looked like a kid caught
with her hand in a cookie jar that I couldn't help myself, and a slightly nervous laughter
escaped. Grandma sighed and turned towards the kitchen. I followed her, not believing
my eyes. She was walking with no difficulties in her beautiful shoes. We sat down by the
table and cut ourselves big pieces of her delicious peach pie.
"So…" I asked, "How did your leg heal(治愈)?"
"To tell you the truth—my legs have been well all my life," she said.
"But I don't understand!" I said, "Your dancing career…I mean…You pretended all
these years?"
"Very much so," Grandmother closed her eyes, "And for a very good reason."
范文讲解
"What reason?"
"Your grandfather."
"You mean he told you not to dance?"
"No, this was my choice. I am sure I would have lost him if I had continued dancing. I
weighed fame and love against each other and love won."
She thought for a while and then continued. _____________________________

【参考范文】
She thought for a while and then continued. "We were very much in love when
your grandfather had to go to war. After he left, I put all my energy into dancing. He
would write to me and always ended his letters with 'I love you with my life'. And then
one day a letter came with only three sentences: 'I have lost my leg. I am no longer a
whole man. Forget about me.'"
By now I had forgotten about the pie and listened to grandma attentively. "What
happened then?" "I told everyone I was caught in a car accident and made sure the
newspaper reported it. I had learnt to limp convincingly with a cane before I found your
grandfather in the hospital. I told him he was not the only one whose leg would never
heal again. 'So if you think I'm going to let you feel sorry for yourself for the rest of your
life, think again!' As he struggled out of the wheelchair, I took out the rings I bought the
day he left for the war..."
巩固练习
On a bright, warm July afternoon, Mac Hollan, a primary school teacher, was
cycling from his home to Alaska with his friends. One of his friends had stopped to make
a bicycle repair, but they had encouraged Mac to carry on, and they would catch up with
him soon. As Mac pedaled (骑行)along alone, he thought fondly of his wife and two
young daughters at home. He hoped to show them this beautiful place someday.
Then Mac heard quick and loud breathing behind him. "Man, that's a big dog!" he
thought. But when he looked to the side, he saw instantly that it wasn't a dog at all, but
a wolf, quickly catching up with him.
Mac's heart jumped. He found out his can of bear spray. With one hand on the bars,
he fired the spray at the wolf. A bright red cloud enveloped the animal, and to Mac's
relief, it fell back, shaking its head. But a minute later, it was by his side again. Then it
attacked the back of Mac's bike, tearing open his tent bag. He fired at the wolf a second
time, and again, it fell back only to quickly restart the chase(追赶).
巩固练习
Mac was pedaling hard now. He waved and yelled at passing cars but was careful
not to slow down. He saw a steep uphill climb before him. He knew that once he hit the
hill, he'd be easy caught up and the wolf's teeth would be tearing into his flesh.
At this moment, Paul and Becky were driving their car on their way to Alaska. They
didn't think much of it when they saw two cyclists repairing their bike on the side of the
road. A bit later, they spotted what they, too, assumed was a dog running alongside a
man on a bike. As they got closer, they realized that the dog was a wolf. Mac heard a
large vehicle behind him. He pulled in front of it as the wolf was catching up fast, just a
dozen yards away now.

巩固练习
Paragraph 1 :
The car abruptly stopped in front of him. Paul and Becky got out of the car
immediately to give help. But with the bare hands, they didn't dare to fight with the wolf.
However, they still approached to the wolf bravely. At the same time, the wolf also
noticed them and turned its head back, shouting loudly at Paul and Becky. Mac then
jumped off the bicycle and was ready to fight against the wolf. That reached deadlock.
Paragraph 2 :
A few minutes later, the other two cyclists arrived. They found the dangerous situation,
where three men circled the wolf. Mac's friends also jumped off their bicycles and
joined the fight with the wolf. More and more cars stopped. Some drivers took out the
sticks from the cars, and some took out the knives, even the guns towards the wolf. Just
at that time, the wolf might feel the threats from the people, starting to withdraw. Soon,
it ran away off the road and disappeared in the distance.
