相较于直白的心理描写(如He was very sad),包含感官细节的描写(如His throat tightened at the
sight of the empty dog house, a faint whiff of dog shampoo still clinging to the cushion)更能体现考生的语言运

When I was in middle school, my social studies teacher asked me to enter a writing contest. I said no without
thinking. I did not love writing. My family came from Brazil, so English was only my second language. Writing
was so difficult and painful for me that my teacher had allowed me to present my paper on the sinking of the
Titanic by acting out a play, where I played all the parts. No one laughed harder than he did.
So, why did he suddenly force me to do something at which I was sure to fail? His reply: "Because I love your
stories. If you're willing to apply yourself, I think you have a good shot at this." Encouraged by his words, I agreed
to give it a try.
I chose Paul Revere's horse as my subject. Paul Revere was a silversmith (银匠) in Boston who rode a
horse at night on April 18, 1775 to Lexington to warn people that British soldiers were coming. My story would
come straight from the horse's mouth. Not a brilliant idea, but funny; and unlikely to be anyone else's choice.
What did the horse think, as he sped through the night? Did he get tired? Have doubts? Did he want to quit? I
sympathized immediately. I got tired. I had doubts. I wanted to quit. But, like Revere's horse, I kept going. I worked
hard. I checked my spelling. I asked my older sister to correct my grammar. I checked out a half-dozen books on
Paul Revere from the library. I even read a few of them.
When I handed in the essay to my teacher, he read it, laughed out loud, and said, "Great. Now, write it again."
I wrote it again, and again and again. When I finally finished it, the thought of winning had given way to the
enjoyment of writing. If I didn't win, I wouldn't care.
注意:
1.续写词数应为150 左右;
A few weeks later, when I almost forgot the contest, there came the news.
I went to my teacher's office after the award presentation.
主人公对老师的信任与鼓励心怀感激,从最初的自我怀疑("writing was so difficult and painful")到最
核心情感:老师无条件的信任("I love your stories... good shot")让主人公突破自我局限,最终在写作
(Sight)
The crystal chandeliers overhead cast tiny rainbows on the certificate as I stepped onto the stage.
His desk was cluttered with papers, but the jade plant by the window still looked as vibrant as the day he'd
laughed at my Titanic play.
(Sound)
My name echoed through the auditorium, followed by a wave of applause that drowned out someone's excited
whisper from the back row.
The click of his pen cap accompanied his words, each syllable warm and deliberate: "See? I just needed you to
see what I saw."
(Touch)
My fingers traced the embossed edges of the certificate, the paper's texture rough against my palms—a
tangible reminder of all those rewritten drafts.
His handshake was firmer than I remembered, his palm warm and slightly calloused, as if he were passing on a
silent "well done."
A faint aroma of coffee lingered in the air, mingling with the musty scent of old library books from the pile on
his desk.
Step 3:
A few weeks later, when I almost forgot the contest, there came the news. The principal’s voice crackled over
the intercom during lunch, calling me to the auditorium. My classmates’ curious glances followed me as I walked,
my sneakers squeaking on the polished floor. Standing at the door, I saw a banner—"WRITING CONTEST
WINNERS"—draped across the stage, its gold letters shimmering under the lights. Then I heard it: "First place in
the middle school division... [my name]." My heart slammed against my ribs as I climbed the steps, fingers
trembling as I accepted the certificate—a thick, embossed sheet that felt heavier than I’d imagined.
(语法亮点:时间状语从句 when I almost forgot,现在分词作伴随状语 calling me,独立主格结构 its gold
letters shimmering,比喻 heart slammed against my ribs)
I went to my teacher's office after the award presentation. He was sitting at his desk, flipping through a stack
of papers, but looked up with a grin that reached his eyes—the same grin he’d had when I acted out the Titanic.
"Told you," he said, standing up and offering his hand. I shook it, noticing how his grip was both firm and gentle,
like the way he’d pushed me to rewrite without ever making me feel defeated. "You see now, don’t you?" he asked,
tapping the certificate I held. "It wasn’t about winning. It was about letting yourself try." I nodded, suddenly
realizing the truth in his words—the horse’s story wasn’t just about Paul Revere’s ride; it was about my own
journey, carried forward by someone who believed in me before I believed in myself.
(语法亮点:定语从句 that reached his eyes,省略句 Told you,现在分词作伴随状语 flipping through,宾
语从句 how his grip was...,比喻 carried forward by someone)
She was happy: she saw colorful flowers, heard birds singing, felt the warm sun, smelled the grass, and
tasted the sweet candy.(五感罗列,无情感层次)
正确:The sun warmed her cheeks as she unwrapped the candy, the fruity scent tickling her nose. A bird's trill
rang out nearby, matching the lightness in her heart——today was the day she'd finally meet her pen pal.(视觉 +
She cried.
Tears spilled down her cheeks, each drop leaving a hot trail on her cold skin.(spill,
At the sight of ______, ______'s eyes ______ (如:widened, filled with tears, lit up), and a ______ (颜色 / 形状)
washed over him/her.
The sound of ______ (如:footsteps, laughter, silence) hung in the air, like ______ (比喻), each beat/note
______'s fingers/skin ______ (如:tingled, froze, burned) at the touch of ______, a sensation that ______ (情感动
词,如:shot through, crept over) his/her body.
He was very nervous before the speech.
“I can’t believe the one guy, the first guy, to see me fall, to show up and give me help, was a cardiac(心脏外
科)surgeon,” Pham told Long Beach Post in an interview. “What are the odds?”
Tuan Pham was feeling pretty good about himself as he approached the 12-mile mark of the Long Beach
Half Marathon in Southern California. The run on Oct.15, 2023, was the 47-year-old’s seventh such event, and he
couldn’t wait to celebrate at the finish line with his teenage son, who had raced ahead. Pham took another step or
two, and that was the last thing he remembers.
He can’t recall staggering or falling face-first to the ground, where he lay motionless as runners skirted him.
He had no pulse, nor was he breathing. Three blocked arteries(动脉)had worked together to do him in. He was
clinically dead. If he didn’t get help soon, he’d be officially dead.
The odds of surviving a cardiac arrest(心脏骤停)outside of a hospital are less than 12%. Pham’s only chance
of survival was if someone, say, a cardiologist, happened to pass by.
Just as Pham hit the ground, Ryan Chiu, a cardiothoracic surgeon from Memorial Care Long Beach Medical
Center, was leaving a restaurant a few feet away. Dr. Chiu immediately recognized what was happening. He ran to
Pham’s side and began chest compressions. He obtained the help of a bystander who took over on compressions
while Dr. Chiu called his hospital and told them to prepare an operating room and gather a surgical team. They had
an emergency on their hands.
Minutes later, an ambulance arrived. Medics sped Pham away to the hospital, with Dr. Chiu following in his
own car. The triple bypass surgery that Dr. Chiu performed was a success. After the surgery, Tuan Pham spent
several weeks in recovery.

On the first day of high school, Lily stood in front of her bedroom mirror, adjusting her bright yellow
sweater. Her heart raced with excitement and nerves. She really wanted to find where she belonged and make
friends in this new world.
As Lily stepped onto the school campus, the air was thick with the sounds of chatter and laughter. She
looked around and saw a group of girls standing in a corner. One girl, Jessica, who had long, pretty hair, waved at
Lily. Lily’s heart started beating even faster. She walked over with a big smile. Jessica said that they were going to
an amazing party that weekend and that she should definitely go. Lily felt so happy, thinking this was her chance to
be part of them.
At lunchtime, the girls chattered non-stop about the upcoming party, their laughter filling the air. However,
as the conversation progressed, it took an unexpected turn. They started talking about skipping classes. At first, Lily
laughed along, trying to fit in, but a sense of unease settled in the pit of her stomach. When they asked her to sneak
(偷溜) out at night, she murmured, “I’m not sure about that.” “Come on, Lily! Everyone does it! You want to fit in,
right?” Jessica insisted. Lily forced a smile and nodded, but she felt so torn.
One day, things took a turn for the worse. Jessica and her friends encouraged Lily to try smoking a cigarette.
But as Lily held the cigarette in her hand, fear gripped her. In that moment, she knew this wasn’t who she was.
Overwhelmed and stressed, Lily decided to go to the art room alone. When she picked up a paintbrush and
started to paint, she found that the colors on the canvas created a safe space where she could forget her problems
and feel calm. Just then, the door creaked open, and a girl with curly hair walked in. The girl introduced herself as
Mia. As they started to talk, they discovered a shared love for art, and soon, they were chatting about their favorite
movies, books, and hobbies. In contrast to her time with Jessica’s group, Lily felt at ease with Mia.

The Threads of Understanding
Lila glared at the silver bracelet on her wrist — a 16th birthday “gift” from Mom. Its complicated vines and
old-fashioned clasp (搭扣) didn’t match her minimalist style of dressing. Mom had given it to her that morning
with teary eyes. “It’s from your great-grandmother’s jewelry box.” Mom said tenderly, but Lila only rolled her eyes
— she only saw a relic. “It’s so… Victorian (维多利亚时代的),” Lila muttered, glaring at the clunky charm shaped
like an oak leaf.
During lunch break, her friends burst out laughing, “Is that a museum piece?” Humiliated, her face turned
red quickly. Furiously, she took off her bracelet and threw it into the fountain near the school gate with a splash.
At night, Lila awoke to a rhythmic click-clack from the living room. Looking secretly through her bedroom
door crack, she saw Mom bending over the kitchen table, magnifying glass in hand. A nearly identical broken
bracelet lay amid scattered tools — a screwdriver ( 螺丝刀), tiny screws, , and a roll of red thread ( 线). Dad’s
whisper floated from the doorway, “You’ve been repairing this one for all night… Why not tell Lila the stories
behind the two bracelets? They are so precious to you.”
Actually, the two bracelets were the last gift that Grandma left to Mom before she was dying. Mom gave Lila
the more well-preserved one and kept the broken one for herself. Informed of these from their conversation, Lila
froze for a second. Heart pounding, Lila grabbed a flashlight and tiptoed out into the cold night.

Two days before New Year’s Eve, the world outside Kelly’s home was blanketed in a quiet frost. Twinkling
lights hung from the roof, and the house smelled like cinnamon and pine. The day had unfolded like any other
holiday afternoon-grocery delivery, a bit of tidying, and a spontaneous gesture of generosity. When she tipped her
Uber delivery driver an extra $130 through the app, Kelly felt a quiet joy, imagining how it might brighten
someone’s day. She gave it no further thought.
Until the next evening.
It was just after dusk when her doorbell rang. Startled (受惊的), Kelly glanced at her phone and tapped the
Ring camera app. There, bundled in a thick jacket and shifting nervously on her feet, stood the same delivery
woman from two days before. Her cheeks were tinged pink from the cold, and her eyes carried a restless intensity.
She cleared her throat.
“Hi,” the woman began, her voice tentative but urgent. “I am so sorry to bother you. I’m not a psycho, I
swear. I’m with Uber.”
Kelly blinked in confusion. The woman gave a tight smile and gestured toward the house with gloved hands,
her breath misting in the air.
“I delivered your groceries the other day. I... I think you were overcharged,” she said quickly. “I got a $130
tip and — I just — I didn’t sleep last night. I kept thinking maybe it was a mistake or your card got hacked ( 被侵
入) or something.”
Her voice trembled, part from the cold and part from the weight of anxiety she had clearly carried all night.
She rocked on her heels, as though fighting the urge to flee. “I didn’t know how else to find you but to come back. I
just — I didn’t want it to affect your account.”
Kelly stepped outside, a mix of surprise and warmth sweeping over her. “You got the money?” she asked.
The woman nodded. “Yeah. I received it. But I wasn’t sure if it was meant for me or not.”

I looked at my watch and let out a long sigh. My flight was delayed due to a snowstorm. I had several hours
on hand. With a yawn, I went to the vending machine nearby and got myself a packet of chips. I guessed I could
pass the time by munching (大声咀嚼) on them since I had nothing better to do. I settled down comfortably on a
bench and decided to read the book I had brought along.
“Crunch! Crunch! Crunch!” the sounds of chips being munched discouraged me from my reading. Where
were they coming from? I had been so absorbed in my reading that I did not realize that a teenage boy had settled
down right next to me. He was helping himself to the chips from the packet! “What a nerve!” I murmured to
myself. “Shouldn’t he ask me for permission before helping himself to them?” I thought my eyes were playing
tricks on me, barely being able to believe this blatant (明目张胆地) display of rudeness from the teenage boy. I was
in a dilemma. I wanted to start yelling at him but felt that it would make me appear very narrow-minded to do it.
Finally, I made a decision — I had to eat more chips from that packet than him!
I shot him a glare of contempt (轻蔑) before stuffing more chips into my mouth. The teenage boy looked at
me, raised his eyebrows and winked at me. He said, “Miss, these chips are simply delicious, aren’t they?” He
proceeded to help himself to more chips from the packet. The invisible race was on! I tried to wolf down as much
chips as I could. I had to make sure I was eating more than him from the packet!
