1.创造性:即发挥想象力,该题型具有一定的开放性,考生需用自己的语言对故事情节进行内容创造;
2.逻辑性:即根据已提供的关键信息,按照可能的合理的方向续写,使文章逻辑结构完整;
在读后续写当中,时间线索串联最为重要,例如upon one's arrival、then、however、besides、while

One weekend in July, Jane and her husband, Tom, had driven three hours to camp overnight
by a lake in the forest. Unfortunately, on the way an unpleasant subject came up and they started
to quarrel. By the time they reached the lake, Jane was so angry that she said to Tom, “I’m going
to find a better spot for us to camp” and walked away.
With no path to follow, Jane just walked on for quite a long time. After she had climbed to a
high place, she turned around, hoping to see the lake. To her surprise, she saw nothing but forest
and, far beyond, a snowcapped mountain top. She suddenly realized that she was lost.
“Tom!” she cried. “Help!”
No reply. If only she had not left her mobile phone in that bag with Tom. Jane kept moving,
but the farther she walked, the more confused she became. As night was beginning to fall, Jane
was so tired that she had to stop for the night. Lying awake in the dark, Jane wanted very much to
be with Tom and her family. She wanted to hold him and tell him how much she loved him.
Jane rose at the break of day, hungry and thirsty. She could hear water trickling (滴落)
somewhere at a distance. Quickly she followed the sound to a stream. To her great joy, she also
saw some berry bushes. She drank and ate a few berries. Never in her life had she tasted anything
better. Feeling stronger now, Jane began to walk along the stream and hope it would lead her to
the lake.
As she picked her way carefully along the stream, Jane heard a helicopter. Is that for me?
Unfortunately, the trees made it impossible for people to see her from above. A few minutes later,
another helicopter flew overhead. Jane took off her yellow blouse, thinking that she should go to
an open area and flag them if they came back again.
Para.1 :But no more helicopters came and it was dark.
_________________________________
Para.2 :It was daybreak when Jane woke up.
_________________________________________【写作构思】
Who: Jane, Tom
What:Jane was lost
When:One weekend in July
Where: In a forest
Why: A quarrel with Tom, her husband
The main idea:Jane was lost in the forest for three days and survived in the end. Jane learned how to control
emotions and deal with conflicts.
开头:start to quarrel
发展:kept moving...; had to stop for the night...;heard a helicopter
Para.1 But no more helicopters came and it was getting dark again.(Jane
Para 2. It was daybreak when Jane woke up. (Jane
But no more helicopters came and it was getting dark again. Immediately, an absolute
darkness ruled the forest. Jane, exhausted and scared, lay down near a stone, missing her familyat
a distance. All the fantastic memory crowded in and she couldn't help crying, "Hadn't I quarreled
with Tom, walked away and climbed to the high place, I wouldn't be trapped in this awful place,
confronted with the danger of dying." She regretted with endless anxiety, and then became asleep
with shining tears in her eyes.
It was daybreak when Jane woke up. Weak as she was, she struggled to her feet, continuing
searching for assistance. To her great joy, a helicopter was flying overhead again and again.
Eager and excited, she flagged her yellow blouse and spared no effort to yell so as to attract
others' attention. Fortunately, she was eventually noticed and brought into the helicopter. There,
she saw her husband, a man staring at her, wearing an expression of relief. As tightly as possible,
she hugged him and was too thrilled to say anything. Besides, they agreed never to quarrel again,
determining to live the life to the fullest.
文章第一句 "an absolute darkness ruled the forest" 中, "rule" 一词就使用了拟人的修辞手法,让
Eager and excited, she
flagged her yellow blouse…" 一句中,直接将情绪形容词放在句首,使用了非谓语动词的语法,表达精
练。
此外, "There, she saw her husband, a man staring at her, wearing an expression of relief."
1) 表示并列关系的过渡词:and, as well as, or ,Not only … but also
2) 表示转折关系的过渡词:but, yet, however , although , though …
3) 表示时间关系的过渡词:first, second, third, and then, finally, after, before, after a few days, at last, at
that time, later, in the past, immediately, in the meanwhile, when, while, then, after that …

A MOTHER'S DAY SURPRISE
The twins were filled with excitement as they thought of the surprise they were planning
for Mother's Day. How pleased and proud Mother would be when they brought her breakfast in
bed. They planned to make French toast and chicken porridge. They had watched their mother
in the kitchen. There was nothing to it. Jenna and Jeff knew exactly what to do.
The big day came at last. The alarm rang at 6 a.m. The pair went down the stairs quietly
to the kitchen. They decided to boil the porridge first. They put some rice into a pot of water
and left it to boil while they made the French toast. Jeff broke two eggs into a plate and added
in some milk. Jema found the bread and put two slices into the egg mixture. Next, Jef turned
on the second stove burner to heat up the frying pan. Everything was going smoothly until Jeff
started frying the bread. The pan was too hot and the bread turned black within seconds. Jenna
threw the burnt piece into the sink and put in the other slice of bread. This time, she turned
down the fire so it cooked nicely.
Then Jeff noticed steam shooting out of the pot and the lid starting to shake. The next
minute, the porridge boiled over and put out the fire. Jenna panicked. Thankfully, Jeff stayed
calm and turned off the gas quickly. But the stove was a mess now. Jenna told Jef to clean it
up so they could continue to cook the rest of the porridge. But Jeff's hand touched the hot
burner and he gave a cry of pain. Jenna made him put his hand in cold water. Then she caught
the smell of burning. Oh dear! The piece of bread in the pan had turned black as well.

“Don’t panic!” he handed each one a wet towel, helping them clean the mess
quickly. After that, Jeff stammered out their plan, his face flushing. However, Father laughed,
“Sounds great! I can teach you to cook.” At this, Jenna and Jef almost jumped to their feet, joy
in eyes. Under his careful guidance, it didn’t take long before the French toast and chicken
porridge were ready. Everything settled, Father left the kitchen, promising to keep their secret.
Paragraph 2:
The twins carried the breakfast upstairs and woke their mother up.
Meeting their smiling eyes, Mother felt confused until they presented the breakfast and
said “Happy Mother’s Day”. Mother gave them a tight hug, “Unbelievable! You can cook! It’s

my dad earned and used it to pay family expenses.I didn't really understand his world either: He was a livestock trucker, and l thought that I

high school graduation.
Summers in the mid, 70s were spent at home shooting baskets, hitting a baseball, or
throwing a football, preparing for my future as a quarterback on a football team. In poor
weather, I read about sports or practiced my trombone(长号).
The summer before my eighth grade I was one of a group of boys that a
neighboring farmer hired to work in his field. He explained our basic task, the tractor fired up
and we were off, riding down the field looking for weeds to spray with chemicals. After a
short way, the farmer stopped and painted at a weed which we missed. Then we began again.
This happened over and over, but we soon learned to identify different grasses like cockleburs,
lamb's-quarters, foxtails, and the king of weeds, the pretty purple thistle. It was tiring work,
but I looked forward to the pay, even though I wasn't sure how much it would amount to.
At home, my dad said, "A job's a big step to growing up. I'm glad you will be contributing
to the household." My dad's words made me realize that my earning might not be mine to do
with as wished.
My labors lasted about two weeks, and the farmer said there might be more work, but I
wasn't interested. I decided it was not fair that l had to contribute my money.

Paragraph 1:
The pay day arrived at last. I was glad that I finally got the payment after working hard

how to dispose of it. I needed a new football because the old one we played had already wornout. I intended to purchase my favorite chocolates. Upon approaching the house, I noticed my
dad and mom standing beside the old truck, looking sadly. It seemed as if something
unpleasant happened. “How much do we still need to pay for a new truck?". asked my mother.
Three hundred dollars, but we just had two hundred left.”
Paragraph 2:
I understood immediately what my parents were worried about. Really, the truck my dad
drove often broke down on the way, which made my dad in trouble. My parents had intended to
buy a new truck but couldn't afford it. Suddenly, I realized what I should do. Stepping
forward, I said, “Dad, here is what I received for my work. I think it would help you a little.”
A little surprised at what I said, my mom hugged me tightly. That night, before I went to bed, l
thought I would tell the farmer the next day that I would continue my work, after all l grew up.
During this past year, I’ve had three instances of car trouble. Each time these things happened, I
was sick of the way most people hadn’t bothered to help. One of those times, I was on the side of the
road for close to three hours with my big Jeep. I put signs in the windows, big signs that said NEED A
JACK (千斤顶), and offered money. Nothing. Right as I was about to give up, a Mexican family in a
small truck pulled over, and the father bounded out.
He sized up the situation and called for his daughter, who spoke English. He conveyed through
her that he had a jack but that it was too small for the Jeep, so we would need something to support it.
Then he got a saw (锯子) from the truck and cut a section out of a big log on the side of the road. We
rolled it over and put his jack on top, and we were in business.
I started taking the wheel off, and then, if you can believe it, I broke his tire iron. No worries:
He handed it to his wife, and she was gone in a flash down the road to buy a new tire iron. She was
back in 15 minutes. We finished the job, and I was a very happy man.
The two of us were dirty and sweaty. His wife prepared a pot of water for us to wash our hands.
I tried to put a $20 bill in the man’s hand, but he wouldn’t take it, so instead I went up to the truck
and gave it to his wife as quietly as I could. I asked the little girl where they lived. Mexico, she said. They were in Oregon so Mommy and Daddy could work on a fruit farm for the next few weeks. Then
they would go home.

Paragraph 1:
When I was about to say goodbye, the girl asked if I’d had lunch. I shook my head and said no,
wondering why she asked such a question — was she going to treat me to lunch or something? “Wait
a minute,” said the girl, and then she went back to the truck. After a few minutes she came back with
a paper bag. “Here are some Mexican snacks and you can have some when you are hungry,” the girl
smiled. I was so surprised and touched that words almost failed me. I just said a “WOW!” instead of a
“Thank you!” when I took the bag.
Paragraph2:
After they left, I got into my Jeep and opened the paper bag. When I saw what was in the bag, I
was overcome with a mixture of respect and gratefulness. In addition to the snacks, there was the $20
bill. What a kind and respectable family! They are a perfect example of what kindness really means.
And I’m sure I will pay it forward. (145)
Possible version 2:
Paragraph 1:
When I was about to say goodbye, the girl asked if I’d had lunch. Of course not, for I had been
trapped there for quite a few hours. She then had a word with her parents and went back to their truck.
A few minutes later she came back with a paper bag. “That’s Mommy’s hand-made taco,” explained
the girl. “It’s so yummy that you must love it.” I was starving to death after all that exhausting workso I took the Mexico-originated food, grateful and deeply moved. Then we waved goodbye to each
other.
Paragraph 2:
After they left, I got into my Jeep and opened the paper bag. Inside the bag was a chicken taco.
The next few minutes saw my wolfing down the delicious food. Tears welled up as I was chewing. It
was awesome to know that while many people tend to ignore those in need, there are some kind-
hearted ones who go out of their way to lend a hand. The good deed the foreign family did will never
escape me. I am going to pass it down to create a much friendlier world. (163)

I had never been more anxious in my life. I had just spent the last three endless hours trying to get to the
airport so that I could travel home. Now, as I watched the bus driver set my luggage on the airport sidewalk, I
realized that my anxiety had only just begun.
This was my first visit alone to the international terminal (航站楼) of the airport, and nothing was familiar.
I couldn’t make sense of any of the signs. Where was the check-in counter? Where should I take my luggage? I
had no idea where to go, feeling as if I were deaf and blind and stupid. I began to panic. What time was it?
Where was my plane? I had to find help because I couldn’t be late.
I tried to ask a passing businessman for help, but my words all came out wrong. He just frowned (皱眉)
and walked away. What had happened? I had been in this country for a whole semester, and I couldn’t even
remember how to ask for directions. This was awful! Another bus arrived at the terminal, and the passengers
came out carrying all sorts of luggage. Here was my chance! I could follow them to the right place, and I would
not have to say a word.
I carried my heavy suitcase behind me and followed the group. We finally reached the elevators. Oh, no!
They all fit in it, but there was not enough room for me. I watched in despair as the elevator doors closed. I was
abandoned again! I had no idea what to do next. I got on the elevator when it returned and stared at all the
buttons. Which one could it be? I pressed button 3, because I thought I saw those passengers pressed 3, though
it was no more than a quick glance. The elevator slowly climbed up to the third floor and came to a stop. Therewere no check-in counters! I looked around shyly, only to find an elderly man standing at the corner. He was an
airport employee.

Paragraph 1:
Tears formed in my eyes as I saw the empty hall and realized that I would miss my plane. Just then the
elderly airport employee walked towards me from the corner. He saw that I was lost and asked if he could help
in any way. He gave me his handkerchief to dry my tears. He smiled kindly. He patted my shoulder to ease my
anxiety before leading me down a long hallway. We walked up some stairs, turned a corner, and at last, there
was the check-in counter! He led me past all the lines of people and pushed my luggage to the inspection
counter.
Paragraph 2:
When I turned to thank him for all his help, he was gone. I never got an opportunity to know that kind
man’s name, but I would always remember his unexpected kindness. He helped me when I needed it most.

I was a single mother in my 30s who lived down and out with my daughter Peggy in a small apartment,
struggling hard to make our needs meet.
One day, I headed to the downtown for an interview. I sat down in the streetcar, and there against the seat
was a beautiful silk umbrella with a silver handle decorated with gold scrolls, among which there was a name
carved.
On impulse(冲动) I determined to find the owner myself. I got off the streetcar in the heavy rain and
thankfully opened the umbrella to protect myself. Then I searched a telephone book for the name, I found it
immediately and called it, waiting patiently, and then a lady answered."Yes, “she said in surprise, with extreme excitement." It was my umbrella which had been stolen a year
ago.”
So appealing was her pleasure that I forgot I was looking for a job and went directly to her small house.
She took the umbrella, with teary eyes, explaining with choking voice that the umbrella was given by her
parents, now dead, Her happiness at retrieving(找回)this special possession was such that to have accepted her

The following months were hard. I can only obtain temporary employment, for a small salary. What was

would be homeless in January, foodless and jobless. I had prayed steadily for weeks, and there had been no
answer but this coldness and darkness.
The air was full of Christmas merriment, with the bells ringing and children shouting in the bitter dusk of

Thinking of this, I couldn’t control my tears on my way home, but I managed a smile so could greet my

Now that Emily was 12, she could walk to school without her parents. And even better, she could go with
her best friend, Heidi, who lived on the same street as her.The only problem was that Emily had to walk the long way round, which took them a good 15 minutes
longer. She just could not take the shortcut through the park.
But Heidi never complained. They had been hanging out at each other’s houses for as long as they could
remember. The best times were when they had sleepovers and could sit up late talking about anything and
everything and everyone.
So if anyone understood why Emily could not walk through the park, it was Heidi.
Emily was a sweet girl except that she was frightened at dogs! So she had to avoid certain places where
they might be. She was always conscious of where she went and got quite good at finding ways to avoid
encountering any of them. She planned ahead good and proper before she headed outdoors or to a friend’s
home. She could even spot one a mile away!
But the strange thing was, she didn’t dislike dogs. In fact she was quite fond of the idea of them. She was
feeling that her fear was preventing her from living life to the full. She was starting to become tired of
constantly avoiding her big fear. She wanted so badly to be able to pet a dog like “normal” people did. She tried
to overcome her fear, but it usually ended in tears and a feeling of disappointment.
As her best friend, Heidi couldn’t stand by. She believed that power of friendship could help Emily

One possible version:
One day Heidi got a dog. When Heidi broke the news, Emily knew she would never be able to come to
Heidi’s house again! And the next day she walked to school on her own. That evening, she went back home
alone, thinking if she would avoid Heidi forever. And then she thought about how they had played together
since they were just three years old. Heidi had been very supportive to her and she realised she couldn’t lose
her best friend.
After several restless nights, Emily went to Heidi’s house and rang the bell. The first thing she heard was a
little dog’s cry. She shuddered. Even though she could tell from the sound that it was only a tiny little thing that
made it, it didn’t help. She felt a familiar foreboding. Soon she was facing her fear! Heidi’s dad opened the
door. Heidi’s dog was about ten inches long. Now he tried to come near enough to greet her. She cautiously pet
the little wriggling bag of fluff for at least ten seconds. It wasn’t long. But it was a start.

l knew this dreaded day would come sooner or later. It came too fast and there I was, in the waiting room
of the dental clinic, miserable with butterflies in my stomach.
My parents told me to sit up,stop wringing(拧) my hands, and take deep breaths to keep calm. It
worked. l was calm for maybe two seconds when I heard my name being called. l pretended to be deaf but my
mother touched me to get up. l forced myself to step forward and immediately stumbled(绊) over a toy and the
boy who was playing with it. My clumsiness got me the attention of everyone in the room. Being stared at by
so many pairs of eyes was too much and I hurried to the consultation room as fast as I could, leaving the boy
crying for his broken toy.
l had refused my parents’ offer to accompany me. I meant to show them that I was brave enough to face
the treatment on my own. I regretted it right now. Thankfully, I forgot my anxiety as I looked around the
dentist's room. Tools of different sizes were arranged neatly in a plate on the tiny table which was connected to
a chair with buttons and a light hanging right over it. I avoided looking at my dentist in the eye as I took my
seat on the chair shakily.
l tried to calm myself down, imaging how brave I would be. After a while, I was taken by great surprise
when all of a sudden the chair moved and I was lying down facing the bright yellow light. When I caught sight
of the dental drill on the plate, panic related to a bad childhood experience involving the drill kicked into me.

Catherine was the coolest kid in her class. Whenever she went, she was in the spotlight, with a bunch of
kids following her and doing everything she did.
Her deskmate, Landy, however, was not in the cool kids’ group. Being the tallest kid in her class, she was
teased by her classmates, who were always chanting “Landy, Landy, long as spaghetti (意大利面)”. Every time
Landy heard those silly chants, she could feel her face burst into flames. God knew how she wished the ground
to crack and swallow her!
Catherine didn’t really like it when the kids chanted “Landy, Landy, long as spaghetti”. But she never told
them to stop either, and nor did she ever talk to her. She liked being popular.
One weekend, Catherine went over to her grandfather for Thanksgiving. Her grandfather lives on a farm at
the opposite end of town, where he keeps chickens. While helping to feed the chickens, Catherine noticed a
peculiar one. Curling in the corner, it looked smaller than the others and was almost half-bare!
“What’s the matter with it?” She asked her grandfather, with a puzzled frown on her face. Her grandfathertold her how chickens could act. “They have a pecking (啄) order,” he explained, wrinkles of concern spreading
around his forehead. “If one chicken is different, the others will push it away and keep pecking it. Sometimes
they peck it so much that it dies.”
“Oh, what a poor little thing!” Catherine let out a sigh as she scooped the frightened chicken up in her
arms, whose heart was beating fast in the bony little body. Suddenly, she thought of Landy, the girl being
“pecked” by her classmates. “I’m going to take it home and take good care of it,” she said with a determined
look.
Back in school, Catherine told the cool kids about the chicken. “It’s looking healthy,” she said proudly.
“It’s fatter and its feathers are growing. Even the cat likes it. She carries it around the garden, and...” Everyone
was entertained by Catherine’s story of her lovely chicken, laughter lingering around the classroom.

Possible version:
Then Catherine spotted Landy sitting by herself in a corner. She kept her head down with her eyes fixed
on the floor as usual. It hit Catherine that the pecking order worked in school, too. Landy was just like the poor
little chicken, being teased and ignored by her classmates, merely due to her special height. “It’s time for me to
make an apology to Landy.” Catherine thought to herself. No sooner had she made up her mind than she
announced it to the cool kids surrounding her. Astonished at what she said, all the kids burst out screaming,“Talking to the long spaghetti? Are you crazy?”
But Catherine walked directly toward Landy, regardless of what they said. “Hi, Landy. I’m sorry about the
spaghetti thing.” Catherine murmured an apology, her face reddening. “I know it hurts you. Can you forgive
us?” She figured Landy might just walk away. But she lifted her misty eyes and nodded yes. Catherine wiped
away her tears, giving her a warm hug. Moved by the scene, the other kids also came to offer their sincere
apologies to Landy. From that day on, no one made up silly chants about Landy, and Catherine also gained an
important life lesson that everyone should be treated equally no matter how special he or she was.
