Instead of having bright, blazing (熊熊燃烧的) fires in winter, she had nothing to burn but dry sticks, which George picked up from under the trees and hedges. One fine day in July, she sent George to the woods, which were about two miles from the village in which she lived. He was to stay there all day, to get as much wood as he could collect. It was a bright, sunny day, and George worked very hard so that by the time the sun was high, he was hot, and wished for a cool place where he might rest for a while and eat his dinner. While he hunted around the bank of the stream, he saw among the moss (苔藓) some fine wild strawberries, which were a bright red with ripeness (成熟). “How good these will be with my bread and butter!” thought George. Lining (垫在……里) his little cap with leaves. he set to work eagerly (急切地) to gather all he could find, and then seated himself by the brook. It was a pleasant place, and George felt happy and contented. He thought how much his mother would like to see him there, and to be there herself instead of in her dark, close room in the village. Ceorge thought of all this and just as he was lifting the first strawberry to his mouth, he said to himself, “How much Mom would like these!” He stopped and put the strawberry back again. “Shall I save them for her?” said George, thinking how much they would refresh his sick mother, yet still looking at them with a longing eye. “I will eat half and take the other half to her,” said he at last and he divided them into two piles. But each pile looked so small that he put them together again. “I will only taste one,” thought he; but, as he again lifted it to his mouth, he saw that he had taken the finest, and he put it back. “I will keep them all for her,” said he, and he covered them up nicely till he should go home. Carrying his cap filled with strawberries very carefully, he felt very happy! He kept all his strawberries for his sick mother, which made him proud of himself. The nearer he came to his home, the stronger he wished to taste them. Thinking about his sick mother lying in bed at home, he resisted the temptation and gave up the idea. He arrived home before he knew it. George ran in to Mom and joyfully offered his wild strawberries. Seeing the wild strawberries after getting up from her bed, George’s mother was surprised and very glad, with tears running down her face. She said, “My son, you saved all for your sick mother. I am proud of you and you are a good boy!” At that moment, George and his mother were both filled with happiness. When the final bell rang, the students were reminded that there was no school on Monday—Labor Day (May Day). “Enjoy your extra day off, ” said the teacher to her class. An extra day of fun suited Kayla just fine. Sheloved breaks. She wanted to go out to play with her friends. When she got off the school bus, Kayla ran into the house happily. “How was school, Kayla?” asked her mom. “It was great, Mom. I am excited about no school on Monday. ” “You just started back to school two weeks ago. Already in need of a break, huh?” asked Kayla’s mom with a laugh. Kayla slept in the next morning. Saturday was her favorite day of the week. It rained most of the day, so Kayla enjoyed playing video games inside. On Sunday, her friends came over and they played basketball for several hours. Then it was Labor Day, you know, the extra day off that Kayla was so looking forward to. But Kayla was awakened early that morning by her dad. He told Kayla that in celebration of Labor Day, the family would do some labour work. Kayla couldn’t believe it. This was a holiday! A day when she was supposed to be enjoying freshly squeezed lemonade while playing in her tree house. As Kayla wiped her eyes, she began to wonder if this was just a bad dream. “Kayla, your breakfast is ready. We have a lot of work to do today. Let’s get a move on, ” said Kayla’s mom. As she sat down at the kitchen table, Kayla asked her parents, “Are you serious about working today? Isn’t Labor Day a holiday?” “Yes, Kayla. It is, ” replied her dad. “But we thought working hard today would make you understand why Labor Day was observed initially. “Though feeling disappointed and even a little annoyed, Kayla had no choice. 注意:续写词数应为150左右。 She was assigned to tidy and clean her own room. ____________________________________________________________________________________________ ____________________________________________________________________________________________ ____________________________________________________________________________________________ ____________________________________________________________________________________________ ________________________________________________________________________________________ Somehow, Kayla wanted to do more work. ____________________________________________________________________________________________ ____________________________________________________________________________________________ ____________________________________________________________________________________________ ___________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ 【经典范文】Paragraph 1: She was assigned to tidy and clean her own room. Seeing the clothes and school supplies scattered here and there, she murmured, “How come my room is so messy?” She picked up the clothes and hung them in the cupboard as mom usually does. Then she began to sort out her school supplies. The last step was wiping the desk and mopping the floor. Before she realized it, two hours had passed and she sweated heavily. Surprisingly, now, Kayla didn’t feel any unhappy. Rather, she felt a sense of achievement and delight. Paragraph 2: Somehow, Kayla wanted to do more work. Just then, she noticed the pet dog’s white fur was a little blackened. Why not give him a bath? Kayla carefully placed the dog into warm water, applied some shampoo onto him, and gently washed. The little creature grunted happily and even kissed Kayla on the cheek. Dad gave her a thumbs-up, asking “Do you enjoy the holiday?” Kayla laughed, “I’ve understood why Labor Day was observed initially. ” She realized holidays were not necessarily for fun and that doing some work could also bring pleasure. I was a vet in Yorkshire. One day I received a call from Mrs Tompkin asking me to cut the beak (喙) of her budgie (虎皮鹦鹉). I armed myself with a pair of clippers and stepped onto the narrow strip of pavement which separated the door from the road. A pleasant-looking red-haired woman answered my knock. “I’m Mrs Dodds from next door,” she said. “I keep an eye on the old lady. She’s over eighty and lives alone.” She led me into the cramped little room. “Here’s Mr Herriot coming to see Peter for you,” she said to the oldwoman who sat in a corner. Mrs Tompkin nodded and smiled, “Oh that’s good. Poor little fella can hardly eat with its long beak and I’m worried about him. He’s my only companion, you know.” “Yes, I understand, Mrs Tompkin.” I looked at the cage by the window with the green budgie perched (栖息) inside. “These little birds can be wonderful company when they start chattering.” She laughed, “Yes, but it’s a funny thing. Peter never has said that much. I think he’s lazy! But I just like having him with me.” “Of course you do,” I said, “but he certainly needs attention now.” The beak was greatly overgrown, curving away down till it touched the feathers of the breast. I would be able to revolutionize his life with one quick snip from my clippers. The way I was feeling this job was right up my street. I opened the cage door and slowly inserted my hand. “Come on, Peter,” I wheedled (哄骗). As I lifted him out, I felt in my pocket with the other hand for the clippers. Then I stopped. The tiny head was no longer poking cheekily from my fingers but had fallen loosely to one side. The eyes were closed. He was dead. Mrs Dodds and I looked at each other in horror. When I turned my head towards Mrs Tompkin, I was surprised to see that she was still nodding and smiling. I drew her neighbor to one side. “Mrs Dodds, how much does she see?” “Oh, she’s very short-sighted but she’s right vain despite her age. Never would she wear glasses. She’s hard of hearing, too.” “Well, look,” I said. My heart was still pounding. “I just don’t know what to do. If I tell her about this, the shock will be terrible. Anything could happen.” Mrs Dodds nodded, stricken-faced. “Yes, you’re right. She’s that attached to the little thing.” 注意: 1. 续写词数应为150左右; 2. 请按如下格式在答题卡的相应位置作答。 I decided to do something for her instead of telling her the truth. ____________________________________________________________________________________________ ____________________________________________________________________________________________ ____________________________________________________________________________________________ ________________It was a long time before I went to see how Mrs Tompkin got along with the bird I bought for her. ____________________________________________________________________________________________ ____________________________________________________________________________________________ ____________________________________________________________________________________________ ____________________________________________________________________________________________ ________________ 【经典范文】 I decided to do something for her instead of telling her the truth. Suddenly it occurred to me that I could buy her a new bird in the nearby store. Mrs Dodds also thought it a good idea and even suggested one in the town. I cleared my throat, telling Mrs Tompkin that I was going to take Peter along to the surgery to do the job. I left her still nodding and smiling and, cage in hand, fled into the street. I soon found the shop and luckily there was a green budgie in the shop. With the bird in the cage, I sped back and hung it in its place by the window. “I think you’ll find everything is well now,” I told Mrs Tompkin. It was a long time before I went to see how Mrs Tompkin got along with the bird I bought for her. “How is the bird?” I said. The old lady led me in and then laughed. “Oh, you mean Peter. He is grand.” In the little room, the cage still hung by the window and Peter, the Second, hopped around the bars of the cage, running up and down his ladder. Mrs Tompkin looked lovingly at him. “You wouldn’t believe it,” she said. “He’s like a different bird, chattering to me all day long. It’s wonderful what cutting a beak can do.” Hearing this, I feel relieved — my efforts did bring her happiness. In a coastal village named Seaford, lived a courageous young woman named Amelia. Amelia was known throughout Seaford for her adventurous nature. From the moment she could walk, she would eagerly run towards the crashing waves, feeling the sand between her toes and the cool spray of the ocean mist on her face. She was a woman with a strong will and possessed a heart full of kindness. Amelia’s love for the ocean was intense, and she spent most of her days exploring the beautiful beaches and sparkling waters that surrounded her house. One sunny morning, while Amelia was walking along the shore, she noticed a group of restless seagulls abnormally circling above the crashing waves. Their unusual calls echoed (回) through the air. Concerned for their well-being, she followed their flight pattern, her instincts guiding her toward danger. As she approached a towering cliff, Amelia gasped in horror. On a narrow ledge (岩架), high above the violent waves, was a young dolphin trapped in a thick fishing net. Its shiny body shone under the golden rays of the sun, but its freedom was cruelly limited by the trap. With each struggle, the net tightened around its delicate body, leaving painful marks on its skin. Its tail flapped helplessly, each movement a request for help, while its desperate cries for assistance echoed through the air. A sense of urgency filled her, pushing her forward with determination and resolve. Realizing that time was tight, Amelia knew she had to act instantly to free this innocent creature from its difficult position before it submitted to exhaustion or the force of the tides. 注意: 1. 续写词数应为150左右; 2. 请按如下格式在答题卡的相应位置作答。 Paragraph 1: Without hesitation, Amelia rushed back to the village. ____________________________________________________________________________________________ ____________________________________________________________________________________________ ____________________________________________________________________________________________ ____________________________________________________________________________________________ ____________________________________________________________________________________________ _______________ Paragraph 2: As the dolphin was released into the waters, it hesitated for a moment. ____________________________________________________________________________________________ ____________________________________________________________________________________________ ________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ ____________________________________________________________________________________________ _______________ 【经典范文】 Without hesitation, Amelia rushed back to the village. She gathered the villagers to join her in the rescue. Amelia led the way, carefully moving along the steep cliff edge until she reached the dolphin. As she drew closer, she noticed tears streaming out of the creature’s eyes, as if it knew its fate was in their hands. Amelia carefully freed the dolphin from the net. Then Amelia and the villagers guided it down to the waiting boat. Then they made their way back to the shore and treated the injuries of the dolphin. As the dolphin was gently released into the calm, welcoming waters, it hesitated for a moment. Amelia approached the dolphin and gently stroked it. The dolphin touched the girl with the tip of its nose in response and made happy sounds as if to say a final thank you before diving gracefully beneath the surface. The crowd erupted in applause, their hearts filled with joy and gratitude for being witness to such a remarkable rescue. Amelia’s courage and compassion were an inspiration to all who heard her story.
