长春队1:0取胜，首届“东北超”圆满收官

Changchun Lifts the First Northeast Super Trophy

The first Northeast City Football League, known as the Northeast Super, came to an end on the evening of October 5. In the final, which was held at the Suoyuwan Football Stadium in Dalian, Changchun defeated Dalian 1-0 and lifted the champion'strophy.

The match was decided by a single goal. Although Dalian created several chances in the first half, the score remained 0-0. In the 68th minute, Huo Lutong fired a long shot from the edge of the penalty area, and the ball flew into the net. Dalian pushed forward afterwards, but their shots were repeatedly stopped by Ding Yixuan, a young goalkeeper who started the match because the team's first-choice keeper was away with the national team.

A crowd of 63,259 people filled the stands, breaking the attendance record of both the stadium and the league. Supported by Liaoning, Jilin, Heilongjiang and Inner Mongolia, the league brought together teams from eight cities. It ran for 136 days, from May 23 to October 5, and produced 34 matches. For the players and the fans who travelled a long way to support them, the final was not only a game but also a festival shared by the whole region.

New Canal Links Southwest China with the Sea

The Pinglu Canal, a 134.2-kilometre waterway in Guangxi, is a key project of China's modern water network. Since it opened earlier this year, the canal has linked rivers with the sea, allowing goods from the southwest to reach the ocean directly. This October, it greeted its first National Day holiday.

The holiday brought both cargo and visitors. Ships kept moving along the canal, while water tours attracted more than 20,000 tourists in just a few days. At the Liujing area of Nanning Port, all ten docks were occupied by vessels of various sizes, and trucks were busy carrying goods to and from the riverside.

The change is easy to see. According to a worker at the port, the number of ships has risen by 60 to 70 percent, and the variety of goods has increased by about 200 percent, as companies from Yunnan, Guizhou, Sichuan and Chongqing choose to send their products here. In Qinzhou, the canal's youth control centre stayed lit through the night of October 5, and its staff checked every lock and every ship so that the new waterway could run safely and efficiently during the busiest days of the year.

Long March Family Reaches 670 Launches Since 1970

The Long March rockets, China's self-developed space launch vehicles, have carried out 670 launches since Long March 1 lifted off on April 24, 1970. The latest flight came on September 24 this year, when a Long March 6A rocket rose into the sky. For over half a century, the engine has been the heart that keeps the Long March family moving.

The road was never smooth. In the early years, China's engines were far from powerful and foreign technology was blocked, so researchers had to test everything by themselves. Long Lehao, an academician of the Chinese Academy of Engineering, took part in developing the Long March 3A rockets, whose team mastered engines driven by extremely cold hydrogen and oxygen. Their success gave Chinese rockets a stronger ability to lift heavy satellites.

Newer engines, powered by liquid oxygen with kerosene or hydrogen, were even harder to build. Failures and explosions happened repeatedly before the new engines were ready, and they now support the Long March 5, 7 and 8 rockets. A younger team now faces a fresh task: engines that can be ignited several times, change their thrust and fly again after returning to Earth. Two routes are being tested at the same time.
