He was 94. Hailed(誉为) as a visionary in the field of heliophysics, Parker revolutionized our understanding of the sun and its effects on Earth and other bodies within the solar system. NASA even stated that “the field of heliophysics exists in large part because of Dr. Eugene Parker. In 2018, Parker became the first living scientist to witness the launch of a spacecraft that was named in his honor. Parker is best known for his groundbreaking theory on the existence of a phenomenon called “solar wind”, a continuous stream of charged particles that flow off the sun. It can become violent, causing space weather that impacts the Earth. When Parker’s research was published in 1958, his theory was initially met with skepticism(怀 疑) and ridicule by the scientific community. The general view at the time was that the space between planets wasan absolute vacuum(真空), and was thus completely empty of any matter. But, there were no errors in his study or his calculations, and the theory was later proven to be correct in 1962, when a NASA spacecraft mission to Venus revealed the constant presence of a supersonic wind—exactly as Parker had predicted. That experience likely led to the advice Parker often gave young researchers: “If you do something new or innovative, expect trouble. But think critically about it because if you’re wrong, you want to be the first one to know that.” Parker never co-authored a paper with his students, thus urging them to be independent. Parker was humble, straightforward, and wise. His son Eric said, “My sister Joyce and I didn’t get a real feel for what a ‘big dog’ our dad was in the field.” They got an even better sense when a month after Parker’s death, they traveled to Lund, Sweden, to accept on his behalf the Crafoord Prize in Astronomy. 24.What can we learn from the second paragraph? A.A spacecraft was named in memory of Parker. B.The sun has less effects on Earth than expected. C.Parker deserved credit for his great contributions. D.NASA provided new insights into the lunar effect. 25.Why did people view Parker’s theory of “solar wind” skeptically at first? A.It went against the popular opinion at that time. B.Some mistakes were found in his calculations. C.The presence of a supersonic wind was proven by NASA. D.Matter was believed to exist in the space between planets. 26.What did Parker suggest young researchers do? A.seek close cooperation B.avoid high expectations C.learn by trial and error D.compete against others 27.What words can be used to describe Parker according to the passage? A.straightforward and generous B.responsible and accessible C.intelligent yet conservative D.distinguished yet modest 【答案】24.C 25.A 26.C 27.D 【导语】本文是一篇记叙文。 根据第二段中“Parker revolutionized our understanding of the sun and its effects on Earth and other bodies within the solar system. 以及“NASA even stated that “the field of heliophysics exists in large part because of Dr. Eugene Parker. 根据第三段中“ When Parker’s research was published in 1958, his theory was initially met with skepticism(怀疑) and ridicule by the scientific community.(当帕克的研究成果于1958年发表时,他的理论 最初遭到了科学界的质疑和嘲笑。)”以及“The general view at the time was that the space between planets wasan absolute vacuum(真空), and was thus completely empty of any matter. 故选A。 26. 根据倒数第二段中“That experience likely led to the advice Parker often gave young researchers: “If you do something new or innovative, expect trouble. But think critically about it because if you’re wrong, you want to be the first one to know that.” 根据第二段中“Hailed(誉为) as a visionary in the field of heliophysics, Parker revolutionized our understanding of the sun and its effects on Earth and other bodies within the solar system. 以及根据 最后一段中“Parker was humble, straightforward, and wise.( 帕克谦逊、直率、睿智。)” C (2024·浙江绍兴·统考一模)A team of Dutch researchers has discovered that magpies (喜鹊) are using metal spikes (things with sharp points) designed to keep them away from certain urban areas to make their own nests stronger and keep invaders at bay. Scientists have known for a while that magpies are some of the most intelligent birds in the world, but even they were puzzled by their amazing ability to adapt to hostile urban environments. It’s not unusual for birds to use human trash as tools and building materials for their nests, but seeing them use the very things we humans use against them was nothing short of puzzling for researchers at the Natural History Museum in Rotterdam and the Naturalis Biodiversity Center in Leiden, in the Netherlands. “I didn’t expect this. These anti bird spikes are meant to deter birds, they are supposed to scare them off, but on the contrary, the birds just use them.” Kees Moeliker, the director of the Natural History Museum Rotterdam, told The Guardian. One particularly impressive magpie nest was discovered in the courtyard of a hospital in Antwerp, Belgium. It was made up of around 1,500 anti-bird spikes, most of which seemed to be positioned with the sharp point outwards, as protection against invaders. After discovering it, researchers checked the roof and confirmed that around 50 meters of anti-bird spike strips had been ripped off the building, leaving only the glue used to fix them in place. Birds have been known to take sharp objects, from point y branches to nails, screws, into their nests as protection, but the use of anti-bird spikes is kind of ironic, as they are the very things used to keep them away. To scientists like Hiemstra, this is a sort of “beautiful revenge”. A few years back, we wrote about rich people in the UK installing anti-bird spikes on trees to stop birds from pooping on their luxury cars, but I guess the birds had the last laugh. 28.How did the researchers feel when they found magpies made use of metal spikes? A.Shocked. B.Amused. C.Frightened. D.Disappointed. 29.What does the underlined word “deter” mean in paragraph 3?A.Attract. B.Threaten. C.Raise. D.Protect. 30.What is paragraph 4 mainly about? A.Supporting evidence for the research result. B.Deeper explanation of the research finding. C.Practical application of the research discovery. D.Further exploration of the cause of the discovery. 31.What can we infer from the passage? A.Birds are the masters of architecture. B.Birds respond wisely in face of anti-bird spikes. C.Birds use human trash to make for better adaptation. D.Birds turn out the most intelligent species in the world. 【答案】28.A 29.B 30.A 31.B 【导语】这是一篇说明文。 由文章第一段“A team of Dutch researchers has discovered that magpies ( 喜鹊 ) are using metal spikes (things with sharp points) designed to keep them away from certain urban areas to make their own nests stronger and keep invaders at bay.(荷兰一组研究人员发现,喜鹊会使用旨在让它们远离某些城市区 域的东西,金属尖刺(有尖的东西)使它们的巢穴更坚固,并阻止入侵者进入。)”和第二段中“Scientists have known for a while that magpies are some of the most intelligent birds in the world, but even they were puzzled by their amazing ability to adapt to hostile urban environments. 故选A。 29. A. 由文章第四段“One particularly impressive magpie nest was discovered in the courtyard of a hospital in Antwerp, Belgium. After discovering it, researchers checked the roof and confirmed that around 50 meters of anti-bird spike strips had been ripped off the building, leaving only the glue used to fix them in place. 故选A。 31. 由文章第三段中“These anti bird spikes are meant to deter birds, they are supposed to scare them off, but on the contrary, the birds just use them. D(2024·浙江·统考模拟预测)Noisy family? Loud construction right outside your window? A new flexible loudspeaker could help you rest easily. It could turn your walls into noise-canceling systems. The new loudspeaker is about as thick as a few sheets of paper. It’s lightweight and flexible enough to stick to most surfaces to control noise much easier, notes Jinchi Han, an electrical engineer at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology in Cambridge. Lots of dome-shaped (圆顶状的) microstructures are in the centre of the new speaker. Han’s team sandwiches their new material between two plastic sheets to protect the domes. “The bottom layer lifts up the small domes so that they can vibrate (震动) freely, and the upper protective layer is thicker than the domes that are secured in the middle of the layers,” he explains. “So if you touch the surface, you don’t need to worry about damaging these small structures.” Han points out large area of the new material could make controlling noise much easier. Each dome works as a tiny speaker. The domes can generate sound waves all together, in groups or individually. Wallpapering your bedroom with this material would create speakers all around you. Those same speakers could then dampen or cancel unwanted sound. “If you desire, you could turn any space into a quiet zone where you could sleep or study with barely any noise,” Han says. He also sees applications in cars, airplanes, apartments or wherever unwanted noise is a problem. Large versions could be the next step for this super-thin speakers, says Lori Beckstead, a sound artist. “The new speakers are so thin and light that they could be placed in spaces where traditional loudspeakers might have been impractical,” Beckstead adds. She notes that adding noise-canceling technology to loud spaces from restaurants to noisy industrial plants would be fantastic. 32.What can we learn about the new loudspeaker from the first paragraph? A.It could reduce unwanted noise. B.It covers a vast area. C.It is flexible to any construction. D.It produces much noise. 33.Why is the surface of the dome safe to touch? A.The bottom layer lifts up the dome. B.It can generate sound waves all together. C.It is protected by the upper and bottom layers. D.The upper protective layer is thicker than the dome. 34.What is the benefit of the new material according to Han? A.Loud noisy spaces are using it effectively now. B.It could control noise more effectively when used largely. C.Any space could be turned into a zero-noise one by using it. D.Wallpapering your bedroom with it creates comfortable sound. 35.What is Beckstead’s attitude to the application of the new speakers? A.Favorable. B.Intolerant. C.Doubtful. D.Unclear. 【答案】32.A 33.C 34.B 35.A 【导语】本文是一篇说明文。 故选A。 33. 根据第三段第二句话“Han’s team sandwiches their new material between two plastic sheets to protect the domes.(韩的团队将他们的新材料夹在两块塑料片之间,以保护圆顶)”和最后一句“So if you touch the surface, you don’t need to worry about damaging these small structures.(所以如果你触摸表面,你不必 担心会损坏这些小结构)”可知,这些圆顶状的结构被上下层材料夹在中间保护起来,因此它们不容易受损。 故选C。 34. 根据第四段“Han points out large area of the new material could make controlling noise much easier.(韩指出,大面积的新材料可以使控制噪音变得更加容易)”可知,大面积使用这种材料更容易控制噪 音。故选B。 35. 根据最后一段“‘The new speakers are so thin and light that they could be placed in spaces where traditional loudspeakers might have been impractical,’ Beckstead adds. She notes that adding noise- canceling technology to loud spaces from restaurants to noisy industrial plants would be fantastic.(Beckstead 补充 说:‘这种新型扬声器非常轻薄,可以放置在传统扬声器可能不切实际的地方。’ 故选A。 (2023下·湖南衡阳·高三衡阳市八中校考开学考试)How to Choose Your Purpose-Filled Career When you think about choosing a career, you often do it in the following two ways. Think about what you like to do. If you like writing or doing crafts, you might consider these things. This is not a bad way to go, of course, but you can’t always make money doing things you like (like video games or drinking beer). 36 Think about a well-paid job that you can do and doesn’t sound so bad. 37 Or maybe that’s out of your educational reach, so you choose office or retail worker. These are all great choices. But often they are not something you’re really passionate about. It’s kind of like just doing something because it’s there——not very inspired. 38 Try to do something to serve a community or make the world better. For example, taking care of children, because you really want to help children get a great start in life, or blossom into who they want to be or getting into government or social work to improve the conditions of the community you live in or becoming a scientist to help ease the environmental crisis or find a cure for a terrible disease. 39 And if you choose one of them for that purpose, you will serve in that work feeling a sense of purpose each day. 40 The point isn’t how you serve the world, but just serving the world in some way will help you feel filled with purpose. If you choose a purposeful and enjoyable job, you’re always further along than most people. A.There are endless ways to do that. B.Maybe a doctor, engineer or lawyer?C.However, there’s another way that is perhaps better. D.You are dreaming of a well-paid job which you like best. E.It’s essential not to concentrate on interests and good payment. F.Each of these is just one of many possibilities filled with purpose. G.And sometimes things you like are better as a hobby or side passion. 根据前文“Think about what you like to do. If you like writing or doing crafts, you might consider these things. This is not a bad way to go, of course, but you can’t always make money doing things you like (like video games or drinking beer).(想想你喜欢做什么。 37.根据前文“Think about a well-paid job that you can do and doesn’t sound so bad.(想一份你能做而且听起 来不那么糟糕的高薪工作)”以及后文“Or maybe that’s out of your educational reach, so you choose office or retail worker.(或者,这可能超出了你的教育范围,所以你选择了办公室或零售工人)”可知,空处应是一个 过渡句,从提出一个方法到具体的职业选择,再根据后文可知,空处的职业对教育要求高,所以 B项 “Maybe a doctor, engineer or lawyer?(也许是医生、工程师或律师?)” 38.分析设空,位于段首,是本段的中心句,根据后文“Try to do something to serve a community or make the world better. For example, taking care of children, because you really want to help children get a great start in life, or blossom into who they want to be or getting into government or social work to improve the conditions of the community you live in or becoming a scientist to help ease the environmental crisis or find a cure for a terrible disease.(试着为社区服务或让世界变得更美好。 39.根据前文“For example, taking care of children, because you really want to help children get a great start in life, or blossom into who they want to be or getting into government or social work to improve the conditions of the community you live in or becoming a scientist to help ease the environmental crisis or find a cure for a terrible disease.(例如,照顾孩子,因为你真的想帮助孩子们有一个美好的人生开端,或者成为他们想成为的人, 或者进入政府或社会工作,改善你所居住的社区的条件,或者成为一名科学家,帮助缓解环境危机,或者 找到治愈一种可怕疾病的方法)”以及后文“And if you choose one of them for that purpose, you will serve in that work feeling a sense of purpose each day.(如果你选择其中的一个作为你的目标,你每天都会有一种使命 感)”可知,空处应是一个过渡句,从介绍职业,到这么做的好处,所以F项“Each of these is just one of many possibilities filled with purpose.(这些都只是许多充满目的的可能性之一)”符合文意,起到过渡作用。故选F项。 40.分析设空,位于段首,是本段的中心句,根据后文“The point isn’t how you serve the world, but just serving the world in some way will help you feel filled with purpose. If you choose a purposeful and enjoyable job, you’re always further along than most people.(关键不在于你如何为世界服务,而在于以某种方式为世界服务 会让你充满目标感。 故选A项。 (2023上·山东滨州·高三统考期末)It’s hard to put into words how much of a sense of freedom I get from being outdoors and in the wilderness. If I’m 41 by buildings for too long, I get a bit anxious. I need to see a field, a river or a mountain 42 in front of me. Spending time outdoors is a wonderful 43 , I like nothing more than getting to the end of a day spent outdoors and 44 the ache in my legs from a long walk. It helps me sleep and is far more 45 than training in a gym. There are so many 46 walks to choose from all over the UK. We live on a tiny island, relatively speaking, but the scenery we have here easily 47 some of the most beautiful in the world. We are extremely 48 : on our doorstep we have beaches, rivers, hills and mountains. Thanks to the light and the weather, the same walk can feel very different 49 the time of year you do it. But for breathtaking views whatever the 50 is, I’d recommend Cow and Calf Rocks on Ilk-ley Moor in West Yorkshire. It’s quite a challenge climbing them, which is why doing so feels more daring than a normal walk and offers 51 that you don’t get from following a gentle path. It’s perfect if you want a workout as well as fresh air and gives you the chance to get up high and 52 a view that changes all year round. Otley Chevin in West Yorkshire is another 53 climb that offers beautiful views. And like Cow and Calf Rocks, it is within easy 54 of the nearby town. But being Cambrian, my heart will always belong to the Lake District. I grew up walking those fells in all weathers and seasons, and I think there is nothing more 55 than a big hill walk that gets your lungs burning and brings you to a view you’ve never seen before. 41.A.crowded B.surrounded C.impressed D.involved 42.A.disappearing B.revealing C.emerging D.floating 43.A.experience B.expectation C.arrangement D.ambition 44.A.doubting B.curing C.feeling D.removing 45.A.harmful B.beneficial C.graceful D.pitiful 46.A.powerful B.grateful C.confusing D.amazing 47.A.rivals B.highlights C.escapes D.explores 48.A.lucky B.tense C.certain D.tough 49.A.picking up B.depending on C.contrasting with D.getting over50.A.season B.custom C.emotion D.response 51.A.curiosity B.excitement C.encouragement D.indication 52.A.put on B.give off C.take in D.set up 53.A.challenging B.exhausting C.moving D.annoying 54.A.limit B.center C.reach D.distance 55.A.regular B.remote C.obvious D.special 【答案】 41.B 42.C 43.A 44.C 45.B 46.D 47.A 48.A 49.B 50.A 51.B 52.C 53.A 54.C 55.D 【导语】这是一篇说明文。 上文“It’s hard to put into words how much of a sense of freedom I get from being outdoors and in the wilderness.”和下文“by buildings for too long, I get a bit anxious.” A. disappearing 消失;B. revealing 揭示;C. emerging 出现;D. floating 漂浮。由上文“I need to see a field, a river or a mountain”以及上面提到作者被大楼包围时,会感到焦虑,所以作者需要看到一片田野,一条河流或一座山 出现在面前,故选C。 43. A. experience 经验;体验;B. expectation 期望;C. arrangement安排;D. ambition雄心。由上文“Spending time outdoors is a wonderful”可知,作者认为在户外 度过一天是一种很好的体验,故选A。 44. A. doubting怀疑;B. curing治愈;C. feeling感觉;感受;D. removing移除。由上文“getting to the end of a day spent outdoors”和下文“the ache in my legs from a long walk”可知,作者喜欢在户外度过一天后感受长途步行带来的腿部疼痛,故选C。 45. A. harmful有害的;B. beneficial有益的;C. graceful感激的;D. pitiful遗憾的。 A. rivals比得上;B. highlights强调;C. escapes逃脱;D. explores探索。 A. lucky 幸运的;B. tense 紧张的;C. certain 确定的;D. tough 艰难的。由下文“on our doorstep we have beaches, rivers, hills and mountains.” A. picking up拾起来;B. depending on依靠;取决于;C. contrasting with与…… 由下文“the time of year you do it”可知,一年内不同的时间决定了同样的步行旅途的感受是非 常不同的,故选B。 50. Cow and Calf Rocks。A. season季节;B. custom习俗;C. emotion感情;D. response回应。 A. curiosity好奇心;B. excitement兴奋;C. encouragement鼓励;D. indication指示。由上文“It’s quite a challenge climbing them, which is why doing so feels more daring than a normal walk”和下文“that you don’t get from following a gentle path”可知,攀登岩石与走一条好走的小路是不一样的,因为攀登岩石这会让你感觉更大胆,更兴奋,故选 B。 52. A. put on穿上;B. give off发出;C. take in吸收;接受; 一眼看清;D. set up 建立。由上文“It’s perfect if you want a workout as well as fresh air and gives you the chance to get up high and”可知,此处指看到一年四季都在变化的的景色,故选C。 53. 由上文“It’s quite a challenge climbing them”和下文“like Cow and Calf Rocks”可知,上文介绍 了攀登Cow and Calf Rocks是具有挑战性的,此处是介绍像Cow and Calf Rocks一样具有挑战性的另外一个 攀岩,故选A。 54. 由上文“within easy”和下文“of the nearby town” 可知,此处指Otley Chevin离附近的小镇很近,within reach固定搭配,意为“在附近”,故选C。 55. 由下文“than a big hill walk that gets your lungs burning and brings you to a view you’ve never seen before.” (2024·河北邢台·宁晋中学校考模拟预测) Silk is delicate and soft to touch, 56 has made its way throughout China’s history. The sound of her alarm clock woke her up, a rude awakening from her sweet dreams. She unwillingly opened her eyes, knowing what waited for her- another 5 long days at school. Dragging herself out of bed, Jenny went through her usual morning routine. She hurriedly got dressed, grabbed her backpack, and rushed to the kitchen for breakfast. Her mother had prepared a nutritious meal, but Jenny had no appetite. She was too occupied with thoughts of an upcoming exam in her most challenging subject, mathematics. As Jenny walked to school, her mind wandered back to the countless hours she had spent studying and practicing equations (方程式). She had put in lots of effort, hoping to improve her grades. However, despite her dedication, she was struggling to achieve the desired results. Doubts started crawling in, and anxiety stayed in her mind like dark clouds. As students settled into their seats, Mr. Johnson, their math teacher, announced that the exam would take place that afternoon. Jenny started to feel afraid. She suddenly realized that she had forgotten her calculator at home, an essential tool for the exam. Panic turned into hopelessness, as she knew that borrowing one during the test would be strictly prohibited. Jenny’s friends, Emma and David, noticed her worry and approached her after class. They offered their help. Emma suggested that Jenny be honest to Mr. Johnson and explain her situation. David, however, had a different plan. He proposed sneaking (偷偷给) his calculator to her during the exam, risking punishment for cheating. Jenny’s heart sank. ____________________________________________________________________________________________ ____________________________________________________________________________________________ ____________________________________________________________________________________________ ____________________________________________________________________________________________ _______________________________________________________________________________________ The exam started.____________________________________________________________________________________________ ____________________________________________________________________________________________ ____________________________________________________________________________________________ ____________________________________________________________________________________________ _______________________________________________________________________________________ 【答案】Jenny’s heart sank. She was torn between honesty and temptation of an easy solution. Sticking to her principles, she decided to follow Emma’s advice. She built up the courage and approached Mr. Johnson. Jenny explained her forgetfulness. Surprisingly, Mr. Johnson understood Jenny’s situation. He even offered to lend her a calculator for the exam. The exam started. Jenny felt more confident than she had been in a long time. With the borrowed calculator in hand, she dealt with each problem with determination and focus. An hour passed, and the atmosphere in the exam room grew tense. Finally, the bell rang, signaling the end of the exam.
