There are times when people come into your life, and you know at once that they are
sure to be there. They serve some sort of purpose, teach you a lesson or help you figure
out who you are or who you want to become. You never know who these people may
be: your classmates, neighbours, teachers, long-lost friends or even strangers. But
__1__,you know that at that very moment they will affect your life in some serious
way.
__2__.However,on reflection, you realize that without getting over them you would
have never realized your potential ability and strength.
【来源:21cnj*y.co*m】
Everything happens for a reason and nothing happens by chance or because of good or
bad luck.__3__.Without these small tests, life would be like a smooth road to
nowhere. The people affecting your life and the successes and failures you experience
help to create who you are and who you become.
Even the bad experiences can be learned from.In fact, they are probably the most
important things. If someone hurts you, forgive them,__4__.
__5__,for you may never be able to experience them again.Talk to people you have
never talked to before, and really listen. You should set your sights high, hold your head
up, tell yourself you are a great individual and believe in yourself.
Most importantly,if you love someone, tell him or her,for you never know what
tomorrow may have in store.
A.when you look into their eyes
B.because you are likely to get addicted to them
C.Don’t forget to embrace those unpleasant moments
D.Make every day count and appreciate every moment
E.Illness, injury and love all occur to test the limits of your soul
F.Sometimes things happening to you may seem challenging at firstG.for they have helped you learn about trust and the importance of being cautious

you know that at that very moment they will affect your life in some serious way 可知,
If someone hurts you,forgive

Giving generously and receiving gratefully make it easier to live happily with
others.__1__
www-2-1-cnjy-com
Let me start with the idea of giving generously.__2__For example,my husband and I
have family members who only contact us when they need money. We usually accept
their requests, but we rarely receive a “thank you”.Most people would say that my
husband and I are being used,and I suppose we are.But when we give,we shouldn’t
be giving for the purpose of getting gratitude or praise.__3__
The good news is that when we lead our lives being nice to others, our lives run moresmoothly. If you’re generous, yes, some people will use you.But if you practice being
generous, most of your relationships will improve.
__4__ I truly believe that you cannot say “thank you” enough when you receive. We so
often get lazy about expressing gratitude.Parents can feel unappreciated by their
children , and teachers can feel unappreciated by their students.Do you think it
unnecessary to thank them when receiving just because a task is part of someone’s job
description?That’s wrong!
Words of appreciation make others feel good about themselves like nothing else. It’s
good for us to say “thank you” because we regularly need to remind ourselves of how
lucky we are.__5__
If you are looking for a way to improve your life,I can give you one:Give generously
and receive gratefully.
A.Thus, saying “thank you” can bring us good luck.
B.Rather,we should be giving because it’s a good thing.
2-1-c-n-j-y
C.And hearing those two words can make us feel great for days.
D.And at the same time,we should remember to receive gratefully.
E.In return,we are to help others by giving them our time or money.
F.I think people are unwilling to be generous to others for fear of being used.
G.Yet,why do we have such difficulty achieving these things in our relationships?

Most people would say that my husband and I are being used, and I
suppose we are.”

A man may usually be known by the books he reads as well as by the company he
keeps, for there is the companionship of books as well as of men.__1__
A good book may be among the best of friends. It’s the same today that it always was,

comforting and supporting us in age.

their favorite author.
Books introduce us into the best society.__4__ We hear what they said and did;we see
them as if they were really alive;we sympathize with them, enjoy them;their
experience becomes ours, and we feel as if we were actors or actresses with them in
the scenes which they describe.
There is a story of two men:one was a king, who dreamed every night that he was a
beggar;the other was a beggar, who dreamed every night that he was a prince, and
lived in a palace.__5__ But when we read,we may not only be kings and live in
palaces, but, what is far better,we may transport ourselves to the mountains or the
seashore ,and visit the most beautiful parts of the world ,without tiredness ,
inconvenience or expense.

Have you ever had someone tell you “If you eat before bedtime, you are more likely to
get fat”?__1__ This belief originated when researchers found the relation between
individuals snacking late at night and having a BMI that categorizes them as obese (肥
胖的) people.
Is eating late at night, especially after 8 pm, really going to make you gain weight?
One theory is that your metabolism ( 新 陈 代 谢 ) slows down when you are
asleep.__2__ Thus the calories you get right before bedtime will not be burned as
much as they will be while you’re awake.
Although the science seems pretty sound, recent studies have shown that metabolism
changes very little, if at all, while you are asleep.__3__ The heart is still beating, lungs
are still working, and the brain is still very active. All of these actions take energy,
meaning while we are asleep, we are still burning calories.
__4__ As we know, one physiological effect of insulin (胰岛素) is storing fat.Food
being consumed late at night will more likely be stored away due to the higher levels
of insulin present in the blood system. However, insulin levels at night are shown to be
no different than insulin levels during midday. If it is true that eating with high insulin
levels causes you to gain weight, anyone eating anytime after the morning will become
fat.So how come individuals have higher BMIs when they snack at night? It is simply a
result of getting too many calories.Snacks that individuals tend to eat during the night
are usually high in sugar and calories, such as ice cream, candy, potato chips and soft
drinks.Put simply, if you get more calories than you burn, regardless of the time of the
day, you will gain weight.__5__
A.With a slow metabolism, few calories are being burned.
B.While you are asleep, your body still functions in many ways.
C.All living matter undergoes a process of metabolism.
D.The time these snacks are consumed does not matter.
E.Without ever questioning it, people quickly assume this to be true.
F.Besides, insulin levels are dramatically lower in the morning than at night.
G.Another theory is that late night snacking leads to rising insulin levels.

One Dollar a Night in New York
When it comes to finding a place to stay for a night in New York, things don’t always
come cheap. However, artist Miao Jiaxin,a Shanghai native who moved to New York
in 2006,is offering people the chance to stay in his apartment in Brooklyn.__1__.
Guests can easily book Miao’s room on the Internet.Nevertheless, although they will
be housed in his apartment,it appears to have more in common with a jail cell(牢房)than a regular bedroom as a cage in the center of the room is where guests will stay.
__2__.Guests must stay in the cage for three hours each morning.“From 9 a.m.to 12
p.m.,you can’t access the Internet, and there are no electronic devices, books, radio,
pens or craftwork. You can’t talk to anybody. You can’t do Yoga or any other
exercises.And you can’t even sleep,” writes Miao.__3__.

Meanwhile, the cage is monitored and recorded by two cameras and the activity of
guests is filmed for the whole time they stay in the cell.
__4__.They can enjoy great views of New York on the roof deck outside the room.
The room is inspired by the alienation(疏离感) Miao felt as a new immigrant—
feelings he believes are universal.“It’s not for fun. It’s for an experience.__5__,”
said Miao.
A.It’s only one dollar a night
B.It’s too expensive for common people to afford
C.More like a psychological New York City experience
D.If you break any of those rules above, you will be fined 100 dollars
E.Actually,Miao’s room is so popular that you have to book three months in advance
F.Despite the strict rules, guests are given a key to let themselves in and out as they
please
G.Miao says that to live in his jail cell, people don’t have to be a criminal, but there
