Now, four years later, I feel proud and thankful for all I have experienced. Looking back, I want to share some important lessons I’ve learned. At the beginning, I discovered that having a good group of friends is really important. In my freshman year, I joined several clubs and met people who liked the same things I did. These friendships brought me happiness and support throughout high school. One of the hardest times for me was in my junior year when I found math class difficult. Instead of giving up, I decided to ask my teacher for extra help and spent more time studying. This taught me that asking for help is not a sign of weakness; it’s a smart thing to do. I also learned that finding the right balance between schoolwork and extra-curricular activities can be difficult. Sometimes I felt stressed because of all the homework and my commitment (投入) to sports and volunteering. I realized that it was important to finish my tasks first and manage my time well. Perhaps the most valuable lesson I learned is discovering who I am and what I believe in. Through both good and bad experiences, I have grown as a person. As I get ready to graduate, I feel prepared to face new challenges and follow my dreams. High school has been an unforgettable part of my life, and I am thankful for every moment. 第 4页/共 11页4. It affected the author’s academic performance. D. It provided happiness and support. 6. What was one of the biggest challenges the author faced during junior year? A. Deciding which college to apply to. B. Having difficulty in math course. C. Managing relationships with friends. D. Choosing between extra-curricular activities. 7. Where is this passage most likely taken from? A A science textbook. B. A high school graduate’s diary. C. A cooking magazine. D. A novel about school life. C Instant noodles (方便面) are a favorite quick meal when people don’t want to cook. Imagine eating them while watching TV on a stormy night — pure comfort! But many believe they’re just junk food that harms health. The truth is, whether they’re unhealthy depends entirely on how you prepare them. The main problem isn’t the noodles themselves, but the common way people make them: pouring boiling water over dried noodles and adding all the salty seasoning (佐料) packets. These seasoning packets contain high levels of salt and artificial additives (人工添加剂), making this version unbalanced and unhealthy. Actually, simple instant noodles aren’t terrible. They’re fried during production (which adds some oil and calories), but they make you feel full and provide quick energy when you’re hungry. To make them healthier, cook them properly: boil the noodles first, pour out excess starchy (含有淀粉的) water, then use fresh water. Most importantly, use only half the seasoning packet to reduce salt. Add vegetables like spinach or carrots and protein like an egg or tofu while cooking. This helps you get more vitamins and protein while cutting sodium (钠). This transforms them into a balanced meal! So, are instant noodles junk food? If prepared lazily with all the seasoning and no extras, yes. But when cooked with less seasoning plus vegetables and protein, they become a good meal. Remember: the 第 5页/共 11页secret is variety. Enjoy them once or twice a week as part of a diverse diet, and they won’t harm your health. They’ re far less scary than people think — just improve your cooking method! 8. What makes instant noodles unhealthy? A. The way to prepare. B. Their quick cooking time. C. The time of eating. D. The junk food style. 9. What is the major cause of unhealthy instant noodles? A. The dried noodles. B. The vegetables. C. Using boiling water. D. The seasoning packets. 10. What is the main purpose of the third paragraph? A. Warn about health dangers. B. Argue noodles are harmful. C. Tell people how to cook properly. D. List harmful additives. 11. What is the suitable title for the passage? A. Instant Noodles: What We Know? B. Instant Noodles: When to Cook? C. Instant Noodles: Eat Sometimes. D. Instant Noodles: Not All Waste. D Yawning (打 哈 欠 ) is something we all do — maybe because we’re bored carrying out boring tasks or because we’re tired. Sometimes, just seeing other people yawn can set you off. But is this biological function really contagious (传染的), and why do we do it in the first place? Many of us think we open our mouths when we yawn to take in more oxygen, but in fact it appears that there is no clear biological reason. According to BBC Bitesize, new research suggests it might be because yawning cools the brain down and prevents it from overheating, like the fan in your computer. This might be why we’re more likely to feel sleepy and yawn in warm temperatures. What is clear is that we yawn more when we’re tired and ready for a nap, and we can’t control when we do it — once we start, there’s no stopping us! But it’s also true that yawning is a very contagious behavior. John Drury, a researcher from Sussex University found in his research that there is a connection between yawning and our social group, specifically how close we are to the people in it. If we identify with the person who shows the behavior, we are likely to copy it too. Another research by the University of Nottingham in 2017 found similar results. They asked volunteers to watch other people yawn. They found their ability to stop themselves from yawning when others around them yawned was limited. And the urge to yawn was increased when people were told they couldn’t. They also found, 第 6页/共 11页when using electrical stimulation (刺激), that they were able to increase people’s desire to yawn. These findings, they say, could be useful in treating other conditions like Tourette syndrome (综合症), which involve the same area of the brain. What is certain is that a yawn can come to us at any time even when we think we’re not tired — but, I hope, not when you’re reading this article! 12. According to paragraph 2, why do people yawn? A. To fight disease. B. To get less oxygen. C. To lower the brain’s temperature. D. To stop the brain from thinking. 13. What can we infer from John Drury’s research? A. Yawning has nothing to do with social relationships. B. We are more likely to yawn if we feel close to the person who yawns. C. People in a social group never yawn together. D Identifying with others makes us less likely to yawn. 14. The University of Nottingham researchers found that ________. A. yawning is not a contagious behavior. B. people can be influenced by others’ yawning. C. the urge to yawn is easy to control. D. electrical stimulation helps stop yawning. 15. What is the text mainly about? A. The reasons for yawning. B. The influence of yawning. C. The value of yawning research. D. The methods of yawning research. 第二节(共 5 小题;每小题 2.5 分,满分 12.5 分) 根据短文内容,从短文后的选项中选出能填入空白处的最佳选项。选项中有两项为多 余选项。 Tips to Improve Your Memory It is known that, as we get older, our brains become smaller in size, but did you know that diet and lifestyle have an effect on how well our brains work? ___16___ Research shows that eating lots of fruit, vegetables and proteins (蛋白质) improves memory. ___17___ Eating oily fish or dark chocolate (with over 70% cocoa) and taking Vitamin D3 can also help make your memory stronger.
