animals to move or die, and can cause 2 to get larger.
China realized this and started to plant trees. China's tree-planting programmes are huge. China
plants more trees than the 3 of the world. Let's find out who are some of the people 4 these
huge numbers.
In Jiangxi Province, 83-year-old Zou Lianying has planted trees on her land for almost 20 years.
When she learned that trees can stop soil being washed away by heavy rains, she 5 to open a
forest farm at the age of 64. Her family's forest farm has trees 6 about 4 km² with more than 8
million trees. Her trees are worth around 12 million RMB but she won't 7 even one tree and
still lives very simply. She believes the forest she is planting will be a gift to 8 generations.
Near Beijing, Wei Guiying and her helpers have planted 9 trees. They have 10
worked at this for more than 20 years. Now, 20 km² of hills have turned 11 . Though she still
owes(欠) a lot of money, this doesn't seem to 12 to her, as she says proudly that she's not a
millionaire 13 she has millions of trees.
A lot of work is still 14 to prevent deserts from getting larger and to stop the climate from
getting warmer, but 15 more of us can be like these tree heroes, it will certainly make life better
for everyone.

Back in 2022, on the last day of November, ChatGPT was announced to the world. In a matter
of days, it became a big event. But how did that happen, and exactly what is ChatGPT?
OpenAI ChatGPT is a chatbot created as an advancement in the artificial intelligence industry.
Behind its knowledge lies a very large amount of data, including books, articles and webpages.
ChatGPT doesn’t just store all this data, it analyzes it. Basically, it thinks and acts like a human. It
can understand various requests, effectively communicate in 90 different languages, and even recall
details of an ongoing conversation. And then it turns past the competing tools by being accessible
for free.
There are thousands of examples of how to use ChatGPT already. You can make it write a
cover letter for a new job, ask for an article, give it a math problem. Even you can give ChatGPT a
small piece of programming code(编程代码) to fix, and it will find the problem. Besides technical
questions, you can go the creative route too and request a poem in the style of Shakespeare.
ChatGPT will come up with perfectly rhyming lines.
So, what if you ask it to come up with a way to break into a website? It will say “No”usually.
However, ▲ There already have been ChatGPT examples of people breaking
the limits which could lead to things like criminals using the system to create ChatGPT malware (恶意软件). It’s only natural that such a technological advancement will bring problems alongside
methods and questions alongside answers.
Will ChatGPT replace Google? Will it take over human jobs? That’s a topic many people want
to talk about.
1. According to the passage, which of the following is TRUE?
A. ChatGPT just stores all the data.
B. ChatGPT is a new AI tool only to chat with.
C. ChatGPT is a robot without any thoughts like a human.
D. ChatGPT is a new tool which is needed to be used correctly.
2. Which of the following sentence can be put in the ▲ ?
A. it’s not always for ChatGPT to refuse harmful requests.
B. ChatGPT can always refuse harmful requests.
C. ChatGPT can say no and influence people’s further thinking.
D. ChatGPT can tell people how to do something harmful.
3. What does Paragraph 3 mainly tell us?
A. People can use ChatGPT to work out a math problem.
B. ChatGPT can help people do some different kinds of things.
C. There are thousands of examples that are about chat systems.
D. ChatGPT is useful and the writer encourages people to use it.

Do you have the same question as me, will robots take our jobs? At a robot show, I saw a
humanoid robot, which means it looks, it talks, and it even acts like a human. So, does that mean it
could take a human’s job? There are no doubts that robots are increasing part of our daily lives. For
example, look around a shop or the highway, there are some robots.
The rise of robots has led to some frightening warnings about the future of work. Some people
think that robots will be able to do everything better than us. A recent study found that up to
670,000 US jobs were lost to robots between 1990 and 2007. And that number is going up every
year. A widely-cited study from 2013 found nearly half of all jobs in the USA are in danger of being
automated over the next 20 years. Just think, robots don’t need health benefits, vacation or even
sleep for that matter.
Many economists(经济学家) argue that automation(自动化) will create new jobs. After all, someone has to program the robots, right? Let’s go back to the 1850s, when trains were the most
popular transport. The number of engineers, railroad conductors and brakemen increased by nearly
600%. But that growth slowed in the early 1900s. Why? You guessed it. The cars came along. Car
mechanic and repairman jobs surged(急剧上升) while railroad jobs began to disappear. And some
companies say the same things will happen when robots move into the marketplace.
It's hard to imagine that robots could copy human characteristics and feelings that are required
in many jobs. I mean, would you really want a robot as your nurse, babysitter or teacher?
1.What does the underlined word “humanoid” in Paragraph 1 mean?
A. Good-looking. B. Chatty. C. Human-like. D. Active.
2. According to Paragraph3, the example of trains is mentioned to .
A. study the relationship between them B. tell us cars were better than trains
C. prove that the trains were popular D. comfort people not to be too worried
3. According to last paragraph, what can you infer?
A. Some jobs are so special that robots should be trained before doing them.
B. It's hard for the writer to imagine that robots could copy human feelings.
C. The writer thinks robots couldn’t do the jobs like nurses, babysitters or teachers.
D. The writer thinks robots could do all the jobs like nurses, babysitters or teachers.

Have you ever looked up into the sky and wondered what was there? Higher than the birds,
past the clouds and farther than the moon. A whole host of amazing objects spin in outer space.
Let’s imagine for a moment that we can leave the earth behind and explore the solar system(太阳系)
that surrounds it. 1 . We call it the solar system because everything in it is centered
around the sun.
2 . The sun is a star, just like many of the stars that you can see in the night
sky. The sun is very, very far away from the earth, almost 93 million miles away. That’s why it
looks so small, even though it’s the biggest object in the solar system. In fact, the sun makes up
more than 99% of the mass in the solar system. If you put all the planets, moons, asteroids(小行星),
comets(彗星) and everything else in the solar system together, they would make up less than one
quarter of 1% of it. The sun is so big that it is more than one hundred times wider than the earth.
And if it were a giant jar, you could fit more than one million earths into it.
3 . Its huge gravity is what keeps the earth and all the other planets circlingaround it instead of floating off into space. The sun is also what allows us to live on the earth.
Without the sun, there would be no heat, there would be no light, plants would not grow, water
would freeze, and nothing could survive. The sun gives us heat and light because it is always
burning. It is a giant ball of gas mostly hydrogen(氢气) and helium(氦气). And it burns at millions
of degrees in its center.
4 . A whole host of amazing objects spin in outer space. Let’s imagine for a
moment that we can live the earth behind.
1. According to Paragraph1, why do people call it “the solar system”?
A. Because people want to leave the earth behind and explore the sun.
B. Because a whole host of amazing objects and the sun spin in outer space.
C. Because the sun is in the center of it and others in it go around the sun.
D. Because scientists first found the sun instead of other planets in outer space.
2. Where can “More than that, the sun is what holds the solar system together.” be put?
A. 3 . B. 1 . C. 4 . D. 2 .
3. According to Paragraph3, why does the earth go around the sun?
A. Because the earth is near the sun. B. Because the sun has huge gravity.
C. Because the earth has huge gravity. D. Because other planets circle around it.
4. What kind of the book is the passage probably from?
A. Science book. B. Fairy tale book. C. Travel guide. D. Novel.

Singapore is located in South East Asia, just off the southern tip of Malaysia. It is one of the
smallest and most densely(密集地) populated countries in the world. Singapore is easy to go
around--nothing is more than an hour away from the central business district. But it is at the
crossroads of sea trading routes. For over a century, Singapore was the jewel in Britain’s Empire.
When the city became a republic in 1965, few people thought a country with so few resources and
of vastly different ethnic(民族特色的) groups could succeed. But succeed it has, on an
unimaginable scale(规模)! Singapore today is one of the Four Asian economic Tigers, a bridge
between East and West.
Although Singapore is now one of the great global cities, ▲ . Restaurants,
hotels and gift shops are Chinatown’s historic shop houses. people can pick up a good luck charm in
the street market or find a few moments of quiet reflection at a temple. There are some Indian
blocks with Indian scents, gods and so on. Nearby there is the Malay and Muslim quarter, the streetsare a treasure of handicrafts from the Arabian world.
If you want to escape the heat and enter a world of colour, you can go to the Singapore Botanic
Gardens and National Orchid Garden. For a slightly wilder experience, you can go to explore the
jungle paths of the Bukit Timah Nature Reserve. Singapore’s animal residents are a pretty diverse
bunch too! The Singapore’s zoo is famous for its forest setting and is home to over 300 species,
including the world’s largest colony of Orangutans(猩猩).
Singapore proves that with unity, diversity and daring, even the smallest of places, can grow
into a giant!

In 2022, Chinese scientists have published a new
geologic(地质) map of the global moon. It is the world’s most
detailed map of the Moon's surface to date. It has over 60
different colours and textures(纹理), you can even see 14 linear
and circular structures as well as nearly 20 different markings. The mapping project took more than
a hundred researchers 10 years to complete.
The mapping work used data from the Chang’e missions as the main source. It also used
high-quality data from international exploration programmes. China started the Chang’e programme
in 2004. Since then, the country has sent many landers and rovers (探测器) to the moon in order to
collect data.
The new map was drawn at a scale(比例) of 1:2,500,000. On this map, we can see 12,341
impact craters(撞击坑), 81 impact basins(撞击盆地),17 different rock types and 14 unique types ofstructures. The map provides plenty of information about the geology of the Moon and its evolution
for new scientific studies and will inform future human missions as well as lend insight for greater
scientific understanding. It can also help select the landing sites on the Moon for future exploration
missions.
The United States Geological Survey (USGS,美国地质调查局) has made a number of
regional maps of the Moon with data from the Apollo missions. However, those maps were
completed at different times with different levels of quality. “The USGS did put its regional maps
together to complete a 1:5 million-scale map in 2020,” said the researchers. “That map, however, is
less detailed in comparison to China's 1:2.5million-scale map.”
1. According to the passage, which of the following is TRUE?
A. The new China’s geologic map of the Moon is drawn at a scale of 1: 500,000.
B. The new China’s geologic map of the Moon was the world’s first map of the moon.
C. The new China’s geologic map of the Moon only used data from the Chang’e missions.
D. The new China’s geologic map of the Moon will be a great help to scientific research.
2. According to the passage, what do the researchers think of the two geologic maps?
A. USGS’s 1:5 million-scale map is more detailed.
B. China's 1:2.5million-scale map is more detailed.
C. Neither of the two maps is detailed.
D. China's 1:2.5million-scale map is less detailed.
3. The picture in the passage is helpful because it .
A. shows how the wonderful map was drawn
B. explains how the moon goes around the earth
C. shows the wonderful map and attracts the readers’ attention
D. introduces much information and knowledge of the Moon

Today artificial intelligence (AI) helps doctors diagnose(诊断) patients, pilots fly aircraft, and
city planners predict traffic. But no matter what these AIs are doing, the computer scientists who
designed them likely don’t know exactly how they’re doing it. This is because AI is often
self-taught, working off a simple set of instructions to create special rules. So how exactly does a
machine learn? There are many different ways to build self-teaching programs, but they all depend
on the three basic types of machine learning, unsupervised learning, supervised(监督) learning,
and reinforcement(强化) learning to see these in action.
Let’s imagine researches are trying to pull information from a set of medical data, containing
thousands of patient profiles. First of all, unsupervised learning. This way would be ideal foranalyzing all the profiles to find general similarities and useful patterns. Maybe certain patients
have similar disease presentations or perhaps a treatment produces specific of side effects.
But let’s imagine doctors are looking for something more specific. They begin by collecting
two sets of data. Then, they input data into a program designed to identify features shared by sick
patients, but not the healthy patients. Based on how often it sees certain features, the program will
give values to those features. Generating an algorithm(算法) for diagnosing future patients.
Next, doctors will make the final diagnosis and check the accuracy of the prediction. Computer
scientists can use the undated data sets to rewrite the program’s parameters(参数) and improve its
accuracy. This hands-on way is called supervised learning.
Reinforcement learning uses a way to gather feedback about which treatments are most
effective. It compares that data against each patient’s profile to create their special treatment plan.
As the treatment progress and the program receives more feedback, it can constantly update the plan
for each patient.
By using them together, researchers can build complex AI systems.
1. According to the passage, which of the following is TRUE?
A. Reinforcement learning can create special treatment plan for the patients.
B. Supervised learning would be helpful to find general similarities.
C. AI is often self-taught to create a simple set of instructions.
D. The computer scientists know exactly what AIs are doing.
2. What does the unlined word “they” in Paragraph 1 refer to?
A. Rules B. Doctors. C. Programs. D. Ways.
3. According to the passage, how does the writer explain the three basic types of AI learning?
A. By giving examples. B. By comparing.
C. By defining(下定义). D. By listing numbers.
4. What’s the best title of the passage?
A. How does AI treat patients? B. How does AI collect data?
C. How does AI learn by itself? D. How does AI create programs?

When you think of 3D-printing, you may think of small objects. If you could print a body
organ, what would you print? According to a report, by the World Health Organization, the World’s
biggest killer is a kind of heart disease which accounts for 16% of the world’s total death. Now,
researchers and scientists have been developing a 3D-printing heart.
A 3D printed heart is nothing new. Scientists in the past have already printed it, but the printed
heart lack heart structures such as cells and blood vessels(血管). In 2019, Israeli scientists used
human cells to create truly simulated(模拟的) 3D printed heart including cells, blood vessels and
other structures necessary for the normal function of the heart.
The 3D printed heart is first made by extracting(提取) adipose tissue(脂肪组织) from the
patient and turning the fat cells into stem cells. Then, they are added to the gel(凝胶) and processed
further until they become heart cells. Finally, by adding the biological ink with heart cells to the 3Dprinter, the heart can be printed layer(层) by layer.
This heart did not beat and it was only the size of a rabbit’s heart. It is unclear whether the 3D
printed heart can withstand the blood flow under high pressure or whether the 3D printed structure
can remain stable(稳定的) after putting in the human body. The bio-inks in the real world
represents a huge progress made by scientists in finding new treatment for heart diseases. Experts
expect that this technology will help more patients within a decade.

As we move away from the sun, the first planet we will meet is Mercury(水星). Mercury is the
smallest planet in the solar system. When you see it from earth with your eyes, of course, it won’t
look much like a planet, it looks like more like a bright star. Temperatures are boiling hot in the sun
and freezing cold in the shade. Something interesting about Mercury is that it is the fastest planet to
go around the Sun, it only takes 88 days.
Next is Venus(金星), the second planet. Some people call Venus: Earth sister, because the two
planets are very close in size and gravity, but they are very different on the surface. First of all, it is
very hot, Venus is the hottest planet in the solar system. Venus might not be fun to visit, but it is
beautiful to look at, It’s the second brightest object in the night sky, the only thing brighter is the
moon.
After Venus comes Earth, Earth is the only planet to have living things.
Mars, the fourth planet from the Sun, is known as the red Planet, because iron-oxide(氧化铁),
a material like rust(铁锈) in the soil gives it a reddish color. Mars is the first planet we visited.
Next comes Jupiter(木星), Saturn(土星), Uranus(天王星) and Neptune(海王星). They are all
gas giants because they are made mostly of gases. Jupiter is the largest planet. Saturn is famous for
its beautiful rings. The rings are actually made from many, many small ice particles. Uranus and
Neptune are covered in blue clouds made of methane(甲烷), which give it its lovely colour.
Neptune is so far out in space, It takes it a very, very long time to go around the Sun-takes over
164 years to finish.
