There’s a reason why so many people love running early in the morning. 1
Not only do you begin your day more relaxed and refreshed, but you’ve already started things of with an
accomplishment. If you think you’re ready to take advantage of the benefits of a morning run, here are five
suggestions from the professionals.
●Find a friend, and be gentle with yourself
Finding a partner to run with will give you someone to be responsible for, and make it much harder to blow off
the run. It’s also important to remember that this is a process, and you can’t expect to do it perfectly from the
beginning. 2 “Once you get into the habit, it becomes natural and actually jump starts your day,” says Sheri
Piers, top American finisher at the 2012 Boston Marathon.
●Embrace the movement
“The first few steps or blocks will be tough in the morning. They always are,” says Dr. Jordan Metzl, who has
over 32 marathon finishes under his belt. With a practice of more than 20, 000 patients, Metzl’s days are jam-
packed, so early morning runs are a must. 3 “Sometimes you have to just do it, and remember that the
motivation will come later.” he says.
●Stay warm
4 “If I go to bed in my sports wear, all I need to do is throw on the outer layers and head out the door.
At least that takes away some of the inconvenience,” says Tina Muir, a half-marathoner. She also leaves her alarm
on the other side of the room to help push herself up.
● 5
“I view waking up early like tearing off a Band-Aid,” says Michele Gonzalez, a running coach. “It’s gonna
hurt for a bit.” Her advice is relatively simple. “You just have to set the alarm early and start doing it,” she says.
“After a few days, you’ll be tired earlier at night and will start going to bed earlier. This makes the early alarm feel
a bit more manageable.”
A.It has major benefits.
B.Have a training plan.
C.Make peace with the pain.
D.It’s just like warming up a car in the winter.
E.Even if you have a setback or two, keep at it.
F.Still, he knows how hard it can be to get motivated.
G.The worst part is getting changed in the cold air especially in winter.

跑步的动力很困难,F项“不过,他知道获得动力有多难”符合语境,与上文“so early morning runs are a
must(所以早上跑步是必须的)”形成转折关系,故选F。
4.根据本段小标题“Stay warm(保持暖和)”和下文“If I go to bed in my sports wear, all I need to do is throw
on the outer layers and head out the door.(如果我穿着运动服上床睡觉,我所需要做的就是穿上外套,然后出

How often do you find yourself worrying about the future and reflecting on the past? Whether it’s during a
busy work day, before bed or at that weird time when we wake up in the middle of the night. there’s always
something to plan for, overthink or worry about. It can occupy our minds. cloud our judgement, and take up
valuable time and energy in our lives. 6
Wild swimming or watersports are a great way of living in the moment. You have to pay attention to the
weather, wind and waves as they could change at any moment. 7 According to the Wild Swimming
Community, immersion in cold water can help with depression and muscle aches, and even boost the immune
system.
8 Whether it’s a plot or a window box, tending to them enables us to get into the “flow”. It alsoreminds us that, despite our best efforts, some things just don’t go to plan— and that’s okay. Seeds might not
germinate (发芽) , creatures could eat our crops, or we might experience unfavourable weather. 9 But what
matters is that we are engaged with nature’s seasons and cycles, not caught in a cloud of future or past thoughts.
The benefits of making things from scratch are well-documented. From pottery to crochet (钩针编织) , sewing
and knitting, there’s something for everyone. 10 Attending a class or group opens up the possibility of face-
to-face conversation, skill-sharing and connection with like-minded people. If you’re short of time, why not try
taking something with you on your commute, such as a small cross-stitch project, or freestyle with a crochet hook
and ball of yarn? Readymade kits can also be great if you’re a bit overwhelmed with ideas.
A.They have health benefits, too.
B.Then what can we do to forget all of them?
C.These things happen and they’re out of our control.
D.But, luckily for us, there is a solution: by being present.
E.These unexpected things can be avoided ahead of schedule.
F.Growing your own plants can also help you to focus on the here and now.
G.You’re giving yourself time to relax, experiment and get your hands dirty.

be important.
Here are some useful tips for your body language during a job interview.
Make a great entrance. A job interview actually starts before you get to the interview room. You don't know
who could be looking at you from a window or standing next to you in the elevator. Your body language should tell
others that you're confident and calm. 11 .

while you're speaking. When you're really nervous, you may want to hide your hand because they express your
anxiety. 13
Stay positive. Your body language follows your mind. If your mind is negative, your body will consciously
create negative energy. However, stay positive and you feel confident in your body language. 14 . And
your smiles will be more likely to leave a good impression on the interviewers.
Work on your walk. Interviewers often make a hiring judgment within the first 10 seconds of meeting you.

We all procrastinate (拖延) occasionally. Procrastination can be defined as delaying a project, a task or an
intended course of action, despite expecting to feel the guilt or shame of the delay. I have developed some habits
that will allow you to live in the present, be much more productive and remove the procrastination that no longer
serves you.
Manage yourself in Time. Becoming a recovering procrastinator requires developing a much greater sense of
time — one hour, one day, one week, one month, one year. 21
You then gain a better understanding of how to manage your time effectively and make steady progress
towards your goals.
Set small goals. 22 They desire to have a half-a-million-dollar year in their first year as a business
owner or to make a remarkable leap from a high-school actor to winning an Oscar. Instead, what typically happens
is that they fall apart emotionally. Those breakdowns lessen the emotional energy necessary to progress toward
their goals.
23 If you tend to procrastinate, keeping an organized list helps you develop much more focus. By
actively committing your tasks to writing, you break free from the aimless spinning and equip yourself to overcome
procrastination.
Rank tasks by importance. Develop the habit of organizing your tasks based on their significance. 24
This way, you’ll prevent yourself from getting overwhelmed and ensure that essential work gets done.
Don’t be too hard on yourself. Overcoming procrastination is a journey filled with ups and downs. 25
Remember to be kind and patient with yourself along the way. You’ve got this, and I believe in you.A.Document your tasks and thoughts.
B.It’s common for procrastinators to aim high.
C.You can establish a daily or weekly timetable.
D.Overcome procrastination with organized focus.

Since the per-historic times, man has had an urge to satisfy his needs. Be it
hunger or shelter, he has always controlled the conditions to the best of his advantages. 31 As we climbed
the steps of evolution (进化), we somehow left behind common sense and logical thinking — we forgot that we
have stopped thinking ahead of times.
If you are hungry, what do you do? Grab a piece of your favorite meal and stay quiet after that? Just like your
stomach, your mind is hungry. But it never lets you know, because you keep it busy thinking about your dream
lover, your favorite star and many such silly things. 32 When mind looses its freedom to grow, creativity
gets a full stop.
33 Now why reading and not watching TV? Because reading has been the most educative tool used by
us right from the childhood. Just like that to develop other aspects of our life, we have to turn to reading. Once you
read a book, you just don’t run your eyes through the lines, but even your mind decodes (解读) it and explains it to
you. The interesting part of the book is stored in your mind as a seed. 34 It, if used many times, can help
you link and relate a lot of things, of which you would have never thought!
Actually, I had a problem in speaking English fluently, but as I read, I could improve significantly. I am still on
the path of improvement to quench (止住) my thirst for satisfaction. So join me and give food for your thoughts by
reading, reading and more reading. 35
A.This is nothing but creativity.B.Go, grab a book, and let me know.
C.So it silently begins to focus on your needs and never lets itself grow.
D.Hunger of the mind can be actually satisfied through extensive reading.
E.You have numerous books which will answer all your “How to?” questions.
F.Now this seed is unknowingly used by you in your future to develop new ideas.
G.This might be the reason why we humans are the most developed of all living species.
31.上文“Since the per-historic times, man has had an urge to satisfy his needs. Be it hunger or shelter, he has
always controlled the conditions to the best of his advantages.
种满足自己需求的冲动,总能使环境对自己有利;G选项“This might be the reason why we humans are the
most developed of all living species.(这可能就是为什么我们人类是所有现存物种中最发达的。)”
“This”指代上文“he has always controlled the conditions to the best of his advantages”;由此可知,G选项符
故选G。
32.上文“Just like your stomach, your mind is hungry. But it never lets you know, because you keep it busy
thinking about your dream lover, your favorite star and many such silly things.(就像你的胃一样,你的大脑也很
你也不知道自己的思想是贫乏的;C选项“So it silently begins to focus on your needs and never lets itself
When mind looses its freedom to
grow, creativity gets a full stop.(当思维失去成长的自由时,创造力就戛然而止。)”
Now why reading and not
watching TV? Because reading has been the most educative tool used by us right from the childhood. Just like that
to develop other aspects of our life, we have to turn to reading. Once you read a book, you just don’t run your eyes

可知本段中作者建议通过阅读填补思想上的饥饿,并详细阐述了广泛的阅读的益处;D选项“Hunger of the mind can be actually satisfied through extensive reading.(思想的饥饿实际上可以通过广泛的阅
34.上文“The interesting part of the book is stored in your mind as a seed. (书中有趣的部分就像种子一样储存
在你的脑海里。)”指出书中有趣的部分就像种子一样储存在你的脑海里;F 选项“Now this seed is
unknowingly used by you in your future to develop new ideas.(现在,这颗种子不知不觉地被你在未来用来发展
新的想法,选项中的“this seed”指代上文中的“a seed”,即“The interesting part of the book”;由此可知,
35.上文“So join me and give food for your thoughts by reading, reading and more reading. (所以加入我,通过
阅读,阅读,再阅读来充实你的思想。)”作者呼吁读者通过阅读来充实思想;B选项“Go, grab a book, and
let me know.(现在就拿起一本书让我瞧瞧!)”
Reversal—change your perspective and solve your problem
It’s often your definition of a problem that limits you in finding a suitable solution. Creative solutions require a
change of perspective. 36
The reversal technique is a creative thinking technique that is based on the thought that to change your
perspective, you sometimes need to change the order of the words in your problem definition.
How you change the order of the words doesn’t matter much, as long as the key words are reversed. 37
Your challenge is “How do we make sure that fewer people take cars to their work?”. Swapping (交换) the key
words, you could rephrase this challenge as “How do we make sure that fewer cars take people to their work?”.
Not every problem statement is suitable for a reversal. Sometimes using this technique requires you to first
rephrase the question altogether. 38 For instance, the question “How might we sell more washing
machines?” is not easily reversed—there is no key word to swap with “washing machines”. Yet, when you rephrase
the question to “How might we sell more washing machines to young parents?”, you can easily change it to “How
might we sell more young parents to washing machines?”. 39 You could interpret this last sentence as
“the washing machine pays the young parents to try it out”。Then, you could start communicating to potential
buyers how much they will save each year when they choose your energy-efficient washing machine.
As this example shows, some reversals will require a very flexible way of thinking. 40 However,
thinking about the tiny amount of time it will “cost” you to try out a reversal, you have very little to lose and,
potentially, lots to gain.
A.The problem statement is much more logical.
B.Often it helps to add one or more key words to the sentence.
C.Rephrasing your challenge is to change the problem statement.
D.A great way to do this is by “reversing” your problem statement.
E.For instance, imagine you are responsible for limiting the traffic jam in your area.
F.Admittedly, it is a very unusual challenge, but it might just stimulate a creative thought.G.Not everyone will be able to move from an unreasonable statement to a useful solution.
36.根据上文“Creative solutions require a change of perspective. (创造性的解决方案需要改变观点)”以及下
文“The reversal technique is a creative thinking technique that is based on the thought that to change your
perspective.
A great way to do this is by “reversing” your problem statement.
How you change the order of the words doesn’t matter much, as long as the key words are
reversed.
we make sure that fewer people take cars to their work?”. Swapping (交换) the key words, you could rephrase this
challenge as “How do we make sure that fewer cars take people to their work?”.”(你面临的挑战是“我们如何确
For instance, imagine you
are responsible for limiting the traffic jam in your area.
38.根据前文“Sometimes using this technique requires you to first rephrase the question altogether. (有时使用
这个技巧需要你首先重新表达问题)”以及下文“For instance, the question “How might we sell more washing
machines?” is not easily reversed—there is no key word to swap with “washing machines”.
Often it helps to add one or more key words to the sentence.
Yet, when you rephrase the question to “How might we sell more washing machines to young
parents?”, you can easily change it to “How might we sell more young parents to washing machines?”
Admittedly, it is
a very unusual challenge, but it might just stimulate a creative thought.
40.根据前文“As this example shows, some reversals will require a very flexible way of thinking. (正如这个例
子所示,一些反转将需要非常灵活的思维方式)”以及后文“However, thinking about the tiny amount of time it
will “cost” you to try out a reversal, you have very little to lose and, potentially, lots to gain.
Not everyone will be able to move from an unreasonable statement to a useful solution.
(2024届·山西吕梁·校联考一模)The Hero’s Journey

40% women experience hair loss. 46 Here are 5 common
reasons why women experience hair loss and how to prevent it.
A surge in stress
Hair loss is caused by physical or emotional stress and the condition can lead to loss up to 300 hairs a day.
Commonly, do not style hair in a way to provide additional stress. Prevent scratching the scalp ( 头皮) or
excessively brushing the hair. Moreover, joining in activities that work to reduce stress can also work to reduce the
symptoms.
Recovering from Covid
1 in 5 covid survivors report that they have suffered hair loss throughout recovery. 47 Taking
time to reduce levels of stress will work to ease the hair damage over time. In the meantime, reduce the amount of
times you brush the hair and the products that may cause dryness.
A change in hormones

acids work to keep hair healthy and keeping levels of stress low can protect hair loss.
A deficiency in Vitamin D
Vitamin D in the skin is metabolised (新陈代谢) by a protein that aids in keeping hair thick and reducing
damage. If you are experiencing hair loss as the result of Vitamin D deficiency, then its important to gain a formal
diagnosis to benefit from treatment. 49
Shifts in weather
Extreme weather doesn’t directly result in hair loss. 50 They can lead the sufferer to frequentlyscratch their scalp, increasing the risk of the hair damage and therefore thinning. There are several treatments
shampoos that can work to decrease its symptoms and therefore control the risk of hair damage. Keeping the scalp
hydrated is vital.
A.Cold weather is also a common factor.

CHALLENGING STUDENT MYTHS
Everybody wants to be happy, lives in harmony with their parents and makes them proud, but in reality you
may find yourself worried or even upset. Following a trend without thinking carefully can make you stressed and
depressed. However, it may surprise you to know that research can help you become a more efficient and well-balanced student. 51
“The most successful students have no worries in exams.”
52 . In fact, these students do suffer stress-just like those with average or below average scores. In the
UK, a database in 2021 showed that doctors provided more calming drugs for students aged between sixteen and
eighteen than they had ever done before. Many of these drugs were for very able students to help them cope with
stress and exam pressure. So remember, be realistic about your abilities.
“ 53 .”
It is just this kind of remark that produces pressure in anybody who is already anxious. Research shows that
the most effective learning takes place if you use a quite different approach. So, adjust your study plan and take
time to relax. In fact, an efficient learner knows how to strike a balance between work and rest. 54 .
“I won’t be successful in the future if I don’t go to a key university.”
55 . But how true is this point of view? Let’s look at the evidence. First, clearly not everyone can go
to a key university. Second, even if you don’t go to a key university, there is still the opportunity of going to one for
post-graduate study. Third, if you take a course you like and do quite well in it, your motivation, training and hard
work will impress your future employer. Remember, it is never too late to learn more!
A.The most efficient students have more flexible approaches to learning
B.Only students who work day and night will succeed
C.Some of these students are suffering harmful consequences
D.This is a common assessment made of students with high scores in school
E.Let’s examine some myths that may be interfering with your progress
F.This worry does affect many Chinese students and their parents
G.Therefore, don’t become strict in your approach-work hard but also work smart
51.空前“However, it may surprise you to know that research can help you become a more efficient and well-
balanced student.(然而,你可能会惊讶地发现,研究可以帮助你成为一个更高效、更平衡的学生。)”
The most successful students have no
worries in exams.(最成功的学生在考试中没有烦恼。)”,“I won’t be successful in the future if I don’t go to a
key university.(如果我不上一所重点大学,我将来就不会成功。)”
因此空格处应该承上启下,说“来看看一些错误的说法吧”,E选项“Let’s examine some myths that may be
interfering with your progress(让我们来看看一些可能会妨碍你进步的神话)”引出下文的一些错误观点,因此
The most successful
students have no worries in exams.”(“最成功的学生在考试中没有烦恼。”)”
生的一种错误观点,D选项“This is a common assessment made of students with high scores in school(这是对在学校取得高分的学生进行的一项常见评估)”说的是对成功学生的一种错误观点,其中的students with high
scores in school与小标题中的The most successful students所指相同,且this指代的是该错误观点,因此符
故选D。
It is just this kind of remark that produces pressure in anybody who is already anxious.
Research shows that the most effective learning takes place if you use a quite different approach. So, adjust your
study plan and take time to relax.(正是这种话给任何已经焦虑的人带来了压力。
该段对学习生活的错误观点应与“只学习不放松”相关,B选项“Only students who work day and night will
succeed(只有日夜努力的学生才会成功)”讲述的是只有黑白努力的学生才会成功,这应是一种错误的观点,
So, adjust your study plan and take time to
relax. In fact, an efficient learner knows how to strike a balance between work and rest.(所以,调整你的学习计划,
当的休息,要达到一种工作与休息的平衡状态,G选项“Therefore, don’t become strict in your approach-
work hard but also work smart(因此,不要过于严格——努力工作,但也要聪明地工作)”讲述的是既要学习又
I won’t be successful in the future if I don’t go to a key
F选项“This worry does affect many Chinese students and their parents(这种担忧确实影响了许多中国学生和
