However, some other people think creativity can just be expressing themselves through everyday acts and they are born creative because it is not an all-or-nothing quality or skill. Whether or not we realize it, we all have the ability to express creativity. Sometimes the path to creative productivity is being willing to do something different. Are you someone who loves to read comics? Perhaps it is time you create one of your own. Don’t worry if you cannot draw very well or feel that you cannot write humorous reports for characters. Nobody says this is an exam! You only have to please yourself, to gain the satisfaction that you try something new, all on your own. If you feel easy, you can of course share it with our loved ones, or post it on social media, Are you someone who likes to express yourself in writing? Try writing a blog. This is like the new version of a diary. In your blog, you can write about your thoughts, opinions and experiences. You can also write stories or plays, if you feel up to it! The blog provides you with a platform to create something new every day, in written forms. Are you someone who likes to be alone? Now, think about the things that make you happy. Find a small place in your room, or any place in your home, where you can spend time with yourself. It can be a small corner next to your bed or a wall. It can be a poster of your favourite rock star or photos of your friends. You can also pick a guitar if you like to play instruments, or a few storybooks if you love reading. Some of you may like flowers, candles or pretty things. Decorate your area with your favourite things in any way you like. That is creativity! And if you do feel bored with this, you can change, add or remove something. By realizing the chances in our daily lives to inspire our creativity, no matter how small, we may become more comfortable with taking bigger creative leaps in other aspects of our lives. 1. How does the writer begin the article? A. By asking questions. B. By giving examples. C. By comparing opinions. D. By explaining reasons. 2. From Paragraph 3 to Paragraph 5, what does the writer suggest? A. Trying something new. B. Avoiding something dangerous C. Trying something difficult. D. Avoiding something expensive. 1关注公众号:陆陆高分冲刺 ~领取:最新版“小中高考-总复习”、最新试卷下载 3. In fact, if a restaurant isn’t noisy or lively, you may think there’s something wrong with it. However, in many western countries, restaurants are quiet places. If a table is too loud, other people in the restaurant might even complain to the owner of the restaurant. Paying the bill is also different from country to country. In China, one person usually pays for everybody. In western countries, one person pays when he or she is entertaining clients, but when friends eat together, they usually share the cost. This is called “Going Dutch”. Also, when Westerners pay the bill, they usually leave some money for the waiter. This is called “leaving a tip”. Leaving a tip is thought to be polite. In the US, people are expected to tip between 15%and 20%of the bill, which is decided by how good the service is. Good waiters can make a lot of money! Different countries have different customs. It’s a place where we can see and learn about animals. It’s really fun and educational for us. However, is it the best place for 8关注公众号:陆陆高分冲刺 ~领取:最新版“小中高考-总复习”、最新试卷下载 animals to live in? In the past, people could only see dead animals in museums. But later, animals were caught alive by explorers (探险家). They put them in small zoos called menageries and showed them to the public. Back then, people didn’t care much about how animals were treated. But now, zoos and wildlife parks have changed a lot. People try to make zoos more like their natural homes. They build bigger places, and try to make the environment as close to the nature as possible. Some people think it’s not right to keep animals in zoos just for our entertainment (娱乐). But zoos say they are trying to help animals by teaching us about protecting them. And now, zoos that are run well also help to support and pay for programs that protect animals. Zoos help to save animals that are in danger of disappearing because of climate (气候) change. Robert Young, an expert on protecting animals, says that zoos are important because they keep many animals from going extinct. Some zoos have special programs to help animals have babies so they don’t die out. Although people still talk about whether having zoos is good or not, there are new ways to learn about wild animals. For example, we can use the VR (虚拟现实) technology. Many zoo experts believe it will be possible to walk through a group of elephants in the Serengeti very soon. 1. Where did people first start showing animals alive to the public? A. In museums. B. In backyards. C. In menageries. D. In natural parks. 2. What are the zoos trying to do to help animals? A. Show them to the public. B. Teach us about protecting them. C. Set up programs to raise money for them. D. Encourage visitors to visit them with the VR technology. 3. What does the underlined word “extinct” in Paragraph 5 probably mean? A. Alive. B. Dead. C. Protected. D. Active. 4. What is the best title for the passage? A. The Past of the Zoo B. After being left alone, it shows people’s brains become active when they see people. While scientists know loneliness and depression (抑郁) are connected with each other in some way, it’s hard to tell if one causes the other. “One way to study that is to look at how the brain responds (作出反应) to periods of being alone,” says Livia Tomova, a scientist. She and her coworkers got 40 volunteers. On the first day, the volunteers didn’t eat anything for 10 hours. On another day, they were placed in a room alone for 10 hours—no friends, no family and no social media. At the end of each day, they showed high activity in a brain area called the midbrain. The researchers were interested in two small areas within it. Both areas became active when hungry volunteers saw delicious food. After the volunteers had been left alone, those brain areas became active when they saw social activities. The midbrain plays an important part in people’s motivation (动力) for looking for food or friends. In fact, it responds to food and social signals even when people aren’t hungry or lonely. But hunger and loneliness increase the responses and make people’s responses specific to the thing they are missing. “One of the goals of studying people,” says Nguyen, “is to find out what our basic needs are.” Nguyen studies solitude—when people wish to be alone. “Humans are social animals. As you walk, you leave footprints (足迹). Later, the footprints disappear. But imagine if your footprints stayed there forever. And imagine, too, that you left footprints everywhere you walked so that someone could know wherever you’ve been. How would you think about that? Well, that’s what happens when you use computers and mobile phones. When you go online, you leave your digital (数字的) footprint, and it can be tracked (追踪) in a database (数据库). Does this matter? Of course, the answer is”Yes”. There are some reasons why your digital footprint matters to you. There is someone who is interested in what you write on Twitter or post on Instagram. For example, companies who sell things are interested because they want to send you ads for things they want you to buy. What you write online influences how people see you. Perhaps one day you write something silly online. Maybe you make a bad joke. Years later, it’s found by the company you’re applying to, and they don’t think it’s funny. Then what? Maybe they decide you’re not the right kind of person for them. You should keep your money safe. There are plenty of people looking at information about you, and some of them want to steal from you. The less information you put out, the harder it is for them. Bank details, card numbers, passwords (密码) ... None of them should be written in emails, text messages or anything else. An American mom challenged her son to do just that, and he succeeded. Sivert Klefsaas is the youngest of Lorna Gold-strand Klefsaas’ four children, and his three older sisters all used social media growing up. It was influencing their feelings, as well as their friendships. It also meant I had more time to focus on my grades and sports instead.” Now that he’s done with the challenge, Sivert joined Instagram (照片墙), but has no plans to let social media define (定义) him. “Social media is great. We certainly need to use it,” Sivert said. “But also make sure you spend time in other areas of your life, especially those personal relationships.” Still, Lorna is proud of her son’s success. “We are certainly not against social media, but it’s the healthy using of it,” Lorna told CNN. 1.
