Zhou Qi is a 17-year-old student from Hangzhou. Zhejiang. Last September he broke the Guinness (吉尼斯) World
Record for the most single skips in one minute, with a result of 374. The record had stood unbroken for ten years. Daisuke
Mimura from Japan held it with 348 skips in 2013.
Interestingly, Zhou’s new record is not even his personal best. “My best performance was 396 times in one minute.
That was done in the 2nd Primary and Secondary School Students’ Rope Skipping Championship in 2020. My coach said I
had already broken the world record. It was at that time that I made up my mind to apply for the Guinness World Record,”
Zhou said.
However, the road to success was far from smooth. For years, Zhou practised with a special steel rope designed for
competítion. It’s light and strong. But because of the rope he used, his first Guinness application was considered invalid (无效).
After online communication with the records management team, Zhou quickly changed to a common rope recognized
(认证) by the Guinness World Records. He soon got used to it.
Whatever kind of rope Zhou used, his strict training stood him in good sporting condition. Zhou has been in the
school rope skipping team for seven years. He has jumped rope for about four hours each day. He would also run around
the playground to improve his physical strength.
Now a high school student, Zhou said he’ll put his studies first. But he won’t stop training and still hopes to beat his
own record one day.
1.When did Zhou Qi break the Guinness World Record for the most single skips?
2.What is Zhou Qi’s Guinness World Record for the most single skips?
3.Why was Zhou Qi’s first Guinness application considered invalid?
4.Which English saying will you use to describe Zhou Qi according to Paragraph 4?
5.What is Zhou Qi’s dream?

B. 5Wh 疑问词必须圈划(who, what, when, why, where, how)
例如:
1. Jake lost one of his skis after he fell over when skiing, didn’t he?
2. When did his parents realized that Jake was missing?
3. What did Jake do to protect himself from the cold temperatures?
4. How did Jake get down the mountain the next morning?
5. How long did it take Jake return to safety after he lost his ski?
6. What do you think of Jake? Give at least one reason.
(1)Jake lost one of his skis after he fell over when skiing, didn’t he?(回答用一般过去时,代词用he)
When did his parents realized that Jake was missing?
What do you think of Jake? Give at least one reason.(回答用一般过去时,省略I think,代词用he)
(2)Did … mean? 回答:It meant …
4. Why
A.. Because + 句子 B. …… + to do……… (这里to do 表目的)
例如:
Why did Redmayne say that this Oscar belonged to all of those people around the world battling ALS ?
回答:Because he acted as Stephen Hawking in the film and Hawking was diagnosed with ALS.
5. Where和When 提问,介词in / on / at 等不能遗漏。

例1:Where will the orphan bears be sent when they are old enough?
回答:They will be taken to a nature reserve in Bryansk.
2:When did his parents realized that Jake was missing?
回答:When they got to the foot of the mountain.
6. How 提问,用By doing…来回答
例:How did Jake get down the mountain the next morning?
回答:By following some ski tracks.
He followed some ski tracks. / He found some ski tracks and followed those.
★如知道:Yes, they do. ★如不知:No, they don’t.
Jake lost one of his skis after he fell over when skiing, didn’t he? 回答:Yes, he did.
Jake didn’t lose one of his skis after he fell over when skiing, did he?
Yes, he did.
Does a good detective need much knowledge or a good assistant?
I A good detective needs
Both / neither / much knowledge /a good assistant.
A.. What do you think of...?
I think (that) it is / they are+ adj.
I think it is serious / terrible / awful / dangerous.
B. What can you learn from Paul’s story?
I can learn from Paul’s story that +句子
Do you think the problem of climate change is serious? What should you do?
Yes, I do. I should plant more trees.

What might be the title of this passage? (In no more than TEN words)
回答:Internet Addiction. / Learn to control Internet use.
Do your eyes need everyday attention?
When/Where did the story happen?
Who put rubbish into different bags?
On the first day of school, our professor introduced a little old lady to us.
问题:Who did the professor introduce on the first day of school?
A little old lady.
What is the main idea of the passage? /What is the passage mainly about? /What is
the purpose of the writer’s writing the passage? /What does Paragraph 3 mainly tell us? /What does the writer want to tell
us?
Each educational system has its own advantages. For example, the Japanese students learn more math and
science than American students by the end of high school. The advantage of the educational system in America is that
students learn to think by themselves. The teaching method makes them more creative.
问题:What does the writer want to tell us?
Each educational system has its own advantages.
But what about blue food?
Children still preferred the sweets that were the usual colors of red, green, brown, yellow and orange.
This is perhaps why we don’t usually use blue food coloring for drinks, cakes and other food.
Some people say we eat with our eyes.
So will we ever see blue foods on our plates? The answer seems to be “no”, at least in countries like the UK and
the USA.
What is the passage mainly about?
People don’t
like the blue food and the reasons.
I never knew her and nor did I know what to do, but I was there, saying some comforting words to a
stranger in pain. I asked her to stand still for a few minutes. We then looked for a place for her to sit. From out of nowhere,
her friend joined us.
问题:What did the writer do for the girl?
The writer said some comforting words to her and looked for a
place for her to sit.

According to an international survey in 2016, young people in emerging(新兴的)countries like China and
India have a greater sense of hope for the future, compared with those living in developed areas such as Europe, North
America and Australia.
…
It was found that 53% of those questioned in China thought the world was becoming a better place—the highest
among the countries surveyed. Some of them also felt hopeful about the future because of the development of
technology.
However, young people in France, Italy and Turkey had a pessimistic outlook on the future.
问题:What’s your opinion of the future? And why?
I feel hopeful about the
future, because the technology is developing quickly.

The show not only visited archaeology sites (考古遗址), but also invited culture experts to help people have a better and

(2025·江苏无锡·一模)What’s the first thing that comes into your mind when you think of wheat straw (稻草)?
Most people would probably see it as a pile of waste in a farmer’s field. However, Wu Cui, an intangible cultural
inheritor (非遗传承人), can turn the straw into beautiful artworks.
The earliest straw-weaving (编织) works were found at Hemudu Cultural Ruins, a Neolithic cultural site in Zhejiang
Province. This discovery means a lot to Chinese traditional culture. The Book of Rites also records that there were already
mats (垫子) made of grass and professional straw-weaving craftsmen (工匠) during the Zhou dynasty.
Straw weaving is a method of making daily items or artworks. It was listed as a national intangible cultural heritage in
2008.
Wu explains the process of straw weaving: choosing from materials is the first step of a process that may take several
weeks, or even months to complete. You need to draw the piece on paper, which requires drawing skills. Next comes
weaving, shaping and preserving (保存) of the work. Even by finishing that process, it does not mean that you will always
create a good piece of work, and the hardest part is to make it lifelike.

In the past, straw items could be found almost in every family in the countryside, in the form of straw hats and straw
shoes, because they were practical in everyday life. But with the development of industry, many of these products are made
in factories. This makes people gain little money, and there are only about 100 people joining in the work across the
country.
Wu says to a news reporter that more craftsmen should work together to make a difference to the spread of the
traditional culture.
11.Who is an intangible cultural inheritor in the article?
12.When was straw weaving listed as a national intangible cultural heritage?
13.What comes next after drawing the piece on paper?
14.Why do people make little money?
15.What can teenagers do to spread the traditional culture?

Pickleball (匹克球), a relaxing sport that has been around since the 1960s, is becoming popular in China. Young
people are growing especially interested in the game.

running needed, making it easy to start for players of all ages and skill levels.
Zhou Minghao, who works in Chongqing, started to play pickleball in May. “As a sports lover, I have tried many
sports and got several major injuries (重伤), so I decided to play pickleball, which is safe,” he said.
Besides safety, Zhang Xin, who started the Chengdu PANG Pickleball Club, said that, like badminton, the sport of
pickleball is fun and competitive “It’s a sport for anyone, anywhere and anytime,” he said.
Wu Xiaomeng from Chongqing agrees. He happened to learn about pickleball and tried it out with some friends in
September, 2022. “It is a game for both men and women, as it requires more skills than physical power (体力),” he said.
“It is a good social activity as anyone can easily pick up this sport and play it for fun. I believe this sport can go far in
China.”

What makes money valuable? We can’t eat, wear or live without it. So why do people want it?
Think about the saying, “Money doesn’t grow on trees.” Money is considered valuable because it is hard to get.
Suppose that you took a sheep to a market in China in the past, and you needed to buy a piece of cloth. How did
you pay for it? The sheep was too valuable, but you could trade sheep milk for the object you wanted. This is called
People could hand two shells (贝壳) instead of goat milk to the seller, which was the first system of currency
(货币) in China. This was a much easier way to buy and sell things. Shells were not heavy and people could take them
without any effort. The idea of currency was popular in Thailand, India and Africa.
Another form of currency is metal coins, which first appeared in China around 1,000 BC. They were different in
shape, size and worth.
Carrying a bag of coins can be heavy and coins are hard to store. They are two reasons that the use of paper
money developed in China in the 10th century. The earliest European paper money appealed in Sweden at the beginning
of the 17th century.
In today’s global economy (全球经济), exchanging money electronically (电子地) is common. Many people
use a bank card.

Food for Thought
Recently, community canteens have become popular among young people.
At first, community canteens mostly served old people. As the elderly may face challenges in cooking, and many
young people cannot cook, these canteens have become perfect places for the two generations (一代人) to become meal
friends.
Getting cheap meals
For only 20 yuan, Fang Wenjing, who works in the training industry (行业) Hangzhou, Zhejiang Province, ordered a
well-balanced lunch at a community canteen m the city. It included a meat dish, a vegetable dish and a bowl of rice.
“The dishes have a home-cooked taste, just as I expected. The canteen is also clean,” said Fang.
Bringing more surprises
Community canteens meet the dining habits of young people in a number of ways. For example, the vegetarian
(素食的) restaurants in Hangzhou have meals including a main dish, a bowl of rice, soup, fruit salad, and a side dish. Hu
Yifan, head of the canteen, said 70 percent of its customers are young people.
A canteen at the Zhanongkou Community in Zhejiang Province recently introduced “happiness mystery boxes”.
They cost just 6 yuan but have one meat dish and a vegetarian dish. To keep what’s inside each box a surprise, stickers
are placed over the see-through top to cover the “main dish”. The “mystery boxes” often sell out very quickly.
The canteen in Beijing’s Lugu Community in Shijingshan district even introduced self-service meals. The buffer-
style (自助式的) dishes there are priced (定价) at just 2.48 yuan per 100 grams. This price is lower than the restaurants
nearby. The canteen has attracted many customers in and out of the neighborhood.
“While it’s a community canteen, it can just as easily be described as a Western restaurant. It is beautifully designed.

DeepSeek: A Great Helper for Middle School Students
In today’s world, technology is changing our lives in many ways. One of the coolest new technologies is DeepSeek.
Deepseek is an AI-related service. It can answer various questions, just like having a helper. It’s also a super-useful tool
that can help middle school students a lot.
DeepSeek is an AI-powered learning helper. It can do many amazing things. For example, when you are reading an
English storybook and come across a new word like “mysterious”, you can type it into DeepSeek. It will not only tell you
the meaning of the word, which is “神秘的” in Chinese, but also show you how to use it in sentences. What’s more,
Deepseek can also answer your questions according to your different questioning methods.
If you are not good at grammar, DeepSeek is also your good friend. Maybe you can’t tell the difference between
“used to do” and “be used to doing”. Just ask DeepSeek! It will explain with simple examples. “He used to play football
after school.” means he played football in the past but doesn’t do it now. “He is used to playing football after school.”
means it has become his habit to play football after school now.
When it comes to writing an English article, DeepSeek can be of great help too. You can let DeepSeek check your
article. It will find spelling mistakes, grammar mistakes, and even give you some advice on how to make your writing
better. It might suggest adding more interesting details or changing some boring words.
However, we should remember not to depend on DeepSeek too much. It’s just a tool to help us. We still need to
think by ourselves and try to solve problems on our own. Only in this way can we truly improve our English skills. So,
let’s make good use of DeepSeek and work hard to achieve better results in our English learning!

Since the beginning of this term, primary and junior high schools in Shenzhen have
carried out a new measure (措施) to make sure that students have daily physical education (PE) classes. Shenzhen is the
first city in the country to require schools to organize daily PE for students at the compulsory education
level.
Buxin Primary School in Luohu District started using a “3+1+1” model, which includes three regular PE classes,
one music-based exercise class, and one sports game class to make sure of five PE classes per week.
Because there aren’t enough PE teachers to teach all the new classes, the school had to ask teachers from other
subject areas to lead many of the PE classes.
Liu Xunhua, a Chinese-language teacher at the school, has taken on the role of a part-time PE teacher. Liu leads
students in activities such as jump rope and jumping jacks (开合跳).
“Everything is for the health of the students, and we support the new measure.” said Liu. Like other
nonprofessional (非专业的) PE teachers, Liu took PE training classes and found chances to learn from professional PE

Suspended coffee” first started in the city of Naples, Italy. It is a tradition in some cafés
in which someone pays in advance for an extra cup of coffee or two. Then the paid coffee can be kept for those unable to
afford a hot drink. At cafés that keep the tradition, a customer-in-need can ask if there are any “suspended coffees” available,
and if so, he or she can have a hot drink without having to pay for it.
The “suspended coffee” tradition became popular after the Second World War. Since then it has become popular in
Europe. And later the idea reached Shanghai. And now, the idea has spread to other businesses in China.
In 2022, in the city of Ningbo, Zhejiang, a similar program named “Ready-for-Use Noodles” was started. In this
program, some restaurants come together to provide free meals for those in need, not just noodles. The idea started small,
with a few local restaurants in a single city. But as news spread, more and more businesses in more and more cities joined in.
And then customers joined in to help, too, by paying for a meal or more in advance.
They wish to help those who might be in difficulty in life. Whether it’s a hungry traveller, a homeless person, or
someone simply facing a hard time, he or she can come in and ask for a meal, without worrying about being unable to pay for it.
“We hope to bring warmth and strength to those who are in hard times,” said Mr Li, who has been in the program
since the beginning.
So, no matter where you are or what challenges you face, remember; you are not alone. There is always someone
willing to lend a hand.

Bronze drum (铜鼓) is a traditional musical instrument used mainly by the Zhuang people in Guangxi. Its history
can date back thousands of years. Hechi is called the “hometown of the bronze drums”. Hechi owns over 1,200 bronze
drums recorded in the world. Many people think that this city is the center of traditional bronze drums.
The bronze drums are considered to sweep away bad things and bring good luck. So they are still popular in Guangxi
and are often used in festivals and community activities. In recent years, the bronze drums of Hechi have taken on a new
look on the stage of the Sanyuesan Festival, which is celebrated on the third day of the third month. It is a public holiday
of Zhuang nationality in Guangxi. On that day, performers stand in front of more than 20 bronze drums, beating them with
small drumsticks (鼓棒). Then the performers will use the bronze drums to play beautiful and clear music, drawing
everyone to the performance.
Wu Weifeng, one head of a local museum, said, “The bronze drums are ancient but still have value today. They
should be protected and passed down.”
At present, more and more masters, musicians, educators and the government of Guangxi are increasingly working
towards the protection and development of their intangible cultural heritage (非物质文化遗产)—bronze drums. They use
their own ways to protect and spread the ancient musical instrument.

(2025·山东枣庄·一模)China’s Chang’e 6 probe (探测器) returned to Earth on June 25, 2024, With the first-ever
rock and soil samples from the far side of the moon. China’s space agency called the mission (任务) “a complete
success” after the probe landed in northern China.
Chinese scientists think the returned samples (样本) include 2.5 million-year-old volcanic rock and other materials
that scientists hope will answer questions about geographic (地理的) differences on the moon’s two sides.
The samples could even help scientists to discover how planets are formed, according to the BBC.
The near side is what is seen from Earth, and the far side faces outer space. The far side is also known to have
mountains and impact craters, contrasting with relatively flat areas visible on the near side.
While past US and Soviet missions have collected samples from the moon’s near side, the Chinese mission is the
first that has collected samples from the far side.
The moon program is part of a growing rivalry (竞争) with the US—still the leader in space exploration--and others,
including Japan and India. China has put its own space station in orbit (轨道) and regularly sends astronauts there.
China’s leader Xi Jinping sent a message of congratulations to the Chang’e team, saying that it was a “landmark
achievement in our country’s effects at becoming a space and technological power”.
The probe left Earth on May 3, and its journey lasted 53 days. Scientists are hoping that the simple materials contain
traces of meteorite (陨石) strikes from the moon’s past.
Experts believe that the aim of future missions will be not only to explore, but to take control of the moon’s
resources.
