Polite requests and offers make our life easier. When we ask for help or permission, using “could” shows
more respect than “can”. For example, “Could you pass the salt?” is better than “Can you pass the salt?”.
When others help us, we should say “thank you”. If we can’t help someone, we can say “Sorry, I’m busy
now, but I can help later.” This makes others feel better.In communities, people often help each other. For example, neighbors may ask, “Could you please water my
plants when I’m away?” or offer, “Can I help you carry the heavy box?”
