Step 1. Lead - in (5 minutes)
The teacher shows some pictures or video clips of people making New Year's
resolutions through multimedia and asks students, "What can you see in these
pictures/videos? Do you know what people usually do at the beginning of a
new year?" Guide students to think and answer, leading to the topic of New
Year's resolutions in this lesson.
Let students share their experiences of making New Year's resolutions. Briefly
describe the content of the plans they made. Create a relaxed classroom
atmosphere and stimulate students' learning interest.
Step 2 Vocabulary Learning (8 minutes)
Use the PPT to display the key vocabulary and phrases that appear in 1a - 2c,
such as "resolution", "physical health", "self - improvement", "take up",
"hobby", "promise", etc. Help students understand the meanings of the words
through pictures, English explanations, or example sentences. For example,
show a picture of people exercising in the gym to explain "physical health"; use
the example sentence "He made a promise to himself to study harder." to

Lead students to read the vocabulary and phrases and correct their
pronunciations. Then play a vocabulary game called "Word Chain". The teacher

Step 3 Reading Practice (15 minutes)

Explain the sentence structures and grammar knowledge to help students

Step 4 Discussion and Sharing (12 minutes)
Organize students to have group discussions on the following questions: "Do
you think it is useful to make resolutions? Why or why not?" "What are the
difficulties you may face when making and keeping resolutions?" "How can you
make your resolutions work?" Each group selects a group leader to organize
the discussion and record the results.
After the group discussions, each group selects a representative to speak and

groups listen carefully and can make supplements and ask questions. During
