Step 1 Lead - in (5 minutes)
After greeting students warmly, the teacher shows some pictures of different
friends getting along, covering scenarios where friends have the same or
different hobbies.
Pose questions to guide students to think and discuss: "Are you similar to or
different from your friends? In what ways?" Encourage students to share their
experiences actively, thus leading to the topic of the similarities and differences
between friends in this lesson.
Step 2. Vocabulary Learning (8 minutes)
Use PPT to present the key vocabulary that appears in 1a - 2c, such as "similar",
"different", "personality", "novel", "difference", "besides", etc. Help students
understand the meanings of the vocabulary through pictures, examples, and
simple English explanations. For example, explain "similar" with two similar
pictures and give the example sentence "My dress is similar to hers."; explain
"different" with two pictures with obvious differences and match it with the
example sentence "This book is different from that one."
Lead students to read the vocabulary and correct their pronunciations. Then
play a vocabulary chain game, where students take turns to say a new word
starting with the last letter of a certain vocabulary to strengthen vocabulary
memory.
Let students make simple sentences with the newly learned vocabulary. Invite
some students to share their sentences, and the teacher gives feedback and
guidance in a timely manner, correcting incorrect usages.

descriptions. After playing, check the answers and give a brief explanation.
Play the listening material again. Ask students to listen carefully and take notes
of the key information, such as the specific similarities and differences between
the characters. After that, let students work in pairs, communicate with each
other based on the recorded information, and share what they heard. Theteacher walks around and offers help.
Step 4. Reading and Discussion (10 minutes)
Let students read the posts in 1b. The teacher asks questions like "What are
Matt's and Diana's opinions about friends?" and "How do they support their
opinions?" to guide students to read with questions.
After students finish reading, organize group discussions for them to share
their understanding of the viewpoints in the posts. Each group selects a
representative to report the group's discussion results to the whole class.
The teacher summarizes and supplements the reports of the students, guides
students to think deeply about the cultural connotations and personal values
behind different viewpoints, and encourages students to express their own
opinions on the similarities and differences between friends.
Step 5. Oral Expression (7 minutes)
Create situations and present some topics about the similarities and
differences between friends, such as "Should friends have the same hobbies?"
and "Is it important for friends to have similar personalities?" Let students work
in pairs to have a dialogue and discuss.
The teacher walks around each group, encourages students to express their
viewpoints using the learned vocabulary and sentence patterns, corrects
language errors in a timely manner, and guides students to expand the content
