Step 1 Lead - in (5 minutes)
Greet students and have a free talk: “Hello, everyone! How was your weekend? Did
you do anything interesting at home?”
Show some pictures related to family traditions, such as family dinners during
festivals, family outings, etc. Ask students: “What kind of family traditions do you
have in your family? Can you share one with us?” This will arouse students' interest
and lead to the topic of this section.
Step 2. Vocabulary Learning (8 minutes)
Present new words and phrases in 1a one by one on the PPT, such as “search for”,
“nod”, “in the corner”, etc. Read them aloud with students several times, and then
ask students to read them individually.
Use pictures, gestures, or simple English explanations to help students understand
the meanings of these words and phrases. For example, show a picture of someone
searching for something to explain “search for”.
Let students make sentences with these new words and phrases. Invite some
students to share their sentences, and correct any mistakes in time.
Step 3. Listening Practice (10 minutes)
Before listening to the audio of 1b, let students look at the pictures and the words in
1a, and predict what they may hear in the conversation.
Play the audio for the first time. Students listen and number the pictures in the order
they hear.
Play the audio again. Students check their answers and then complete the sentences
in 1c.
After listening, invite students to share their answers. Explain any difficult points in
the listening material, such as new words in context or some idiomatic expressions.
Step 4. Speaking Activity (10 minutes)
Divide students into pairs. Let them use the words and phrases in 1a to make a
conversation about a family event. For example, they can talk about searching for a
lost family photo in the corner of the house.
Walk around the classroom, observe students' conversations, and give timely
guidance and help. Encourage students to use the sentence patterns “Can/Could you
please...?” and “Could I...?” in their conversations.
Invite some pairs to perform their conversations in front of the class. Other students
listen carefully and give feedback, such as commenting on the use of vocabulary,
sentence patterns, and fluency.
Step 5. Reading and Discussion (7 minutes)
Present the reading passage in 2a. Let students read it silently and answer the
question: “What is the main idea of the passage?” After reading, have a group discussion. Ask students: “What kind of family values are
mentioned in the passage? Do you agree with them? Why or why not?”
Each group selects a representative to share their group's opinions. The teacher
summarizes and guides students to think deeply about family values.
