Do You Prefer to Eat at Restaurants?
When it comes to eating, people are usually in two different minds. Some prefer to eat at a restaurant while
others would rather prepare and have their meals at home. Both choices have their own advantages and
disadvantages.
First of all, not having to cook is an obvious advantage of dining at restaurants over having home-cooked
meals. Secondly, restaurants usually provided a much wider range (范围) of ___65___ compared to the number
of dishes an average person can prepare at home. Such a wider menu may get people to try out different dishes,
which can’t be achieved easily if they cook at home. Moreover, you don’t need to do the wash-up after you are
done eating when dining at restaurants. However, such advantages come at a cost. Eating at restaurants too often
costs a lot money. Therefore, it is not a(n) ___66___ decision for most people.
On the opposite, cooking your own meals at home is cheaper. Of course, this requires more time and effort.
You need to buy and cook the ingredients on your own and ___67___ afterwards, but it has some advantages. For
instance, home cooking allows people to prepare food that fits their own ___68___ and is a way of improving
their cooking skills.
Personally, I enjoy cooking ___69___, especially when I’m cooking for someone else instead of myself. What’s
more, I think many restaurants’ food portions (饭菜的一份) are not enough for a ___70___, healthy person.
Because of this, even though there may be some moments when a restaurant meal would be preferable, I’d rather
prepare and eat my own meals.

When Words Get Stuck
Does this happen to you? You are in the middle of a conversation. Suddenly, you get stuck on a word. It’s
r____71____ there … if you could just remember. You move on. Hours later, the word comes to you. However,
you no longer need it— that conversation is over.
What happened? You have just experienced a tip-of-the-tongue moment. Well, you don’t need to feel
n____72____ about it. Such moments are just part of the way we communicate.
Lise Abrams is a psychology(心理学)professor at the University of Florida. He has studied tip-of-the-tongue
moments for more than 20 years. According to his r____73____, anyone, in any culture, any language and any age
group, experiences tip-of-the-tongue moments.
We are more likely to get stuck on words we s____74____ use. It’s because we’re not so familiar with these
words. Besides, proper nouns(专有名词)lead to tip-of-the-tongue moments more often. The reason might be that a
proper noun may m____75____ different people or things that just have the same name.
Here is an example. Think of the name of the hero in the last novel you read. Now think of a tool with many
buttons you use to do calculations. Which word comes to your mind first?
“Calculator!” you will say. That’s because all calculators s____76____ those same features(特点). As a
result, you have more “clues” when you try to remember the word. On the other hand, dozens — if not hundreds —
of novels have a Tom. They are all very different from each other.
Can we do something to a____77____ tip-of-the-tongue moments? Well, according to Abrams, one way is to
use certain words or names more often. Say, if you can never seem to remember the name of that singer your
classmates often talk about, try saying his or her name out loud whenever you can. It could save you from
embarrassment someday.

At present, more and more people are crazy about travelling. Why do people travel? “To see more of the

Chinese tourists. Of course it offers us good opportunities to meet people from other countries, learn about their
culture and customs.
According to the United Nations World Tourism Organization (UNWTO), more than 1 billion people travelled
to another country in 2012. In 2012, Chinese people travelled abroad 30 percent more than in 2011. The prosperity
of the tourism industry can also bring both our country and foreign countries great economic benefits. Chinese
travelers usually join large tourist groups and visit several countries in one trip.
Chinese people don’t just travel for sightseeing. The China International Travel Service Company said that all
their tour trips sold out a month before Christmas Day. Stores offered discounts during that time, so shopping in
Europe and the United States is popular among Chinese travelers.
In December, China is going through a very cold winter. So many people like to go to some countries in
Southeast Asia because the weather there is quite pleasant.
The improvement of living standards means more Chinese can travel abroad. But many of them don’t have a
sense of public manners. A report by Living Social website in March 2012 even listed Chinese as the world’s
second worst tourists.
If you want to change that bad name, remember to avoid the following: littering, spitting, snatching bus seats,
line-jumping, taking off shoes in public, talking loudly and smoking in non-smoking areas. Besides, we should
learn some necessary manners of foreign countries.
