A. Choose the best answer (根据以下内容,选择最恰当的答案) (12 分)
Fiona McIntyre is a taxi driver in London. She tells us about her work and some of her experiences.
Q: When did you start?
I’ve been a taxi driver for about five years. Before that I was a bus driver in London, and I enjoyed it, but I
wanted more freedom so I changed and started driving my taxi.
Q: Have you ever had any famous passengers?
Oh yes. I’ve had film stars, politicians, you know, lots of famous people. About a year ago, a really famous
actor got in my taxi. I took him to the airport. We were stuck on the way and it took a long time to get there, so he
missed his plane and failed to meet his fans. It wasn’t my fault but when he got out of the taxi, he shouted at me
angrily! I said to him, “Next time, take a bus!”
Q: Have passengers ever left anything in your taxi?
Oh yes! People have left all kinds of things — a suitcase, a hat, mobile phones, of course, even a dog once!
Years ago, a woman left a pair of shoes on the seat. And one time a passenger left his teeth here! Not real teeth, of
course — false teeth.
And people have asked me to do some strange jobs. Once a doctor stopped me outside a hospital and asked me
to take a skeleton to another hospital. Professors usually use skeletons to teach medical students, you know. And I
did. But I asked him to pay first — the skeleton couldn’t pay, after all!
Q: 63
Good question. I’ve always enjoyed being a taxi driver and I don’t want to change. But of course, sometimes,
it’s not great. I don’t like driving around without a passenger, but it’s better than just waiting at the airport or at a
railway station. I think that’s the worst part-waiting.
59.Fiona McIntyre thinks being a taxi driver is more ________ than being a bus driver.
A.independent B.exciting C.comfortable D.satisfying
60.The famous actor missed his plane because ________.
A.Fiona didn’t drive well B.Fiona wasn’t very polite
C.there was too much traffic D.there were too many fans
61.Passengers left the following things EXCEPT ________ on Fiona’s taxi.
A.suitcases B.mobile phones C.false teeth D.umbrellas
62.The underlined ward “him” in Fiona’s answer to the third question refers to ________.
A.the skeleton B.the doctor C.the professor D.the student

If you are a hiker or a nature lover, you’ll enjoy reading A Walk in the Woods.
It’s a true story, written as a comedy. The author is Bill Bryson. Bryson returned to the US after 20 years in教育资源分享店铺 网址:https://shop175591889.taobao.com 微信号:kingcsa333
Britain and decided to get familiar with his native country by walking the Appalachian Trail(阿巴拉契亚山道).
The trail, about 3,500 kilometers long, is popular with thousands of hikers. It goes from Springer Mountain in
Georgia to Mountain Katahdin in Maine. The story offers a landscape of silent forests and beautiful lakes. But as a
writer with comic genius, Bryson also finds humor in the struggles that he and his old friend, Stephen Katz, went
through.
Lots of silly things happen along the way. At the beginning, Bryson reads about the dangers of the wild and
stays awake for hours each night, because he is worried he will be killed by bears. Later the two middle-aged men
try to climb a mountain but get caught in a snow-storm. They get lost more than once, but they always manage to
find their way back to the trail. They also meet a lot of strange people.
But the story is more than just a laugh-out-loud hike. Bryson also talks about acid rain(酸雨), the hunting
of birds, and damage to the ecosystem(生态系统). It’s a mix of the silly and the serious, a fresh way of getting
readers to actually care about the environment problems. As the website Book Browse said in a review, the book
“will certainly become a modern classic of travel literature”.
