You might not usually pick up someone else’s rubbish. But imagine if everyone does it, the world will be a
much cleaner place!
When I was young, my parents and my teachers always told me to pick up any rubbish around me. Each day at
school during our lunch break, every student had to find some rubbish. We put it in the bin before we returned to
class. Our school was always very clean because everyone spent one or two minutes picking up rubbish every day.
That same idea is now becoming popular around the world, thanks to Take 3. Australian surfer (冲浪运动员)
Amanda Marechal and ocean scientist Roberta Dixon-Valk came up with the idea in 2009. They asked everyone to
pick up three pieces of rubbish each time they visited the beach. Why did they ask people to pick up just three
pieces of rubbish, instead of 10 or 20? They think it’s an easy thing that people might actually do.
Today, Take 3 is a popular idea around the world, and not just on the beach. Take 3 has gone to the United
Kingdom, the United States, Costa Rica and some other countries. Their latest plan is to make an app. It will help
people learn more about what kinds of plastic are polluting the ocean.
Do you want to make the world a cleaner place? Why not start a Take 3 group with your friends this weekend?
33. Why was the writer’s school clean?
A. Because no one threw away rubbish.
B. Because everyone picked up rubbish every day.
C. Because there were many trash bins in the school.
D. Because parents and teachers cleaned the school every day.

A. Spending three minutes picking up rubbish.
B. Picking up rubbish with three of your friends.
C. Picking up three pieces of rubbish on the beach.
D. Picking up rubbish three times a day.
35. How will the Take 3 app help people?
A. It will help people find rubbish on the beach.
B. It will tell people which ocean is polluted.
C. It will stop people from throwing away plastic.
D. It will teach people which plastic pollutes the ocean.
36. What does the story mainly talk about?
A. A school rule in the writer’s school.
B. Plastic waste and ocean pollution.
C. Picking up someone else’s rubbish.
D. Three Australian surfers’ dream.

Kelly’s favorite subject is P. E. But she had a hard time in P. E. class. She was not good at jumping, she had
trouble throwing a ball, and she couldn’t run really fast. Sometimes, some kids made fun of her. So, why does Kelly

floor, so Kelly would be able to practice jumping over it.
That night when Kelly finished her dinner, she put three boxes and began practicing jumping over them. She
made it! Kelly thought to herself, “Tomorrow I will be able to jump over those boxes in P. E. class.”
There was a relay race (接力赛) on Tuesday. Kelly was scared (害怕) that she would not be able to run very
fast. When Kelly ran around the track (跑道), she heard many cheers and kids shouting, “Go! Kelly! You can do
it!” That was all she needed. Kelly ran fast. She finished first! The kids cheered for her. Kelly felt so good. “Thank
you, Mr. Burns,” said Kelly. “Kelly, you ran the race, not me.” “Yes, but you always said I could do it.”

Going green seems to be a fashion for a lot of people these days, but for the two of us, going green is not a
fashion but a lifestyle.
On April 22, 2019, we started our plan to go green every day for a year. This meant doing 365 different green
things. For example, we reused water and cut down the use of our energy. Also, we had to think of something
different to do and this was not easy.
With the idea of going green every single day for a year, Our Green Year started. My wife and I taught people
how they could go green in their lives. We hoped we could show people all the green things that we could do to
make the environment(环境)better. We wanted to push the idea that every little bit helps it a lot.
During Our Green Year, we completely changed our lifestyles. We now shop at organic(有机的)stores. We
eat less meat, choosing green food. We greatly cut down our buying. We give away half of what we have on the
Internet. We clean our home with vinegar(醋)and lemon juice instead of chemical cleaners. We make our own
butter, enjoying the smell of home-made bread. In our home office, anyone doing something ungreen may be

学科网(北京)股份有限公司Fun facts about oxen!
Here comes 2021——it’s the Year of the Ox. Chinese people believe this year will be great, because the ox has
many positive meanings in Chinese culture.
The ox stands for the spirit of hard work and helpfulness. They are our friends. Cows give people milk. Yaks
help people carry things around.
People like this animal so much that they write poems about it and paint pictures of it, they also make paper
cuttings of it to beautify their homes during important holidays.
Lu Xun, one of China’s most famous writers, wrote “Cows eat grass, but give milk.” In Chinese, we use the
word “lao huang niu” to describe those who help others and ask nothing for themselves.
But in the West, some people have a different opinion about the animal. “Bullheaded” people are very
stubborn and will not listen to advice. If we say someone behaves like “a bull in a china shop”, it means he or she
acts impolitely.
Cow, in Indian culture, is known as a Holy animal. Most Indians don’t kill or eat cows. Cows often walk
around freely, even along busy streets in big cities in India. Why are cows so important to Indians? Because cows

Think about the different ways that people use the wind. You can use it to fly a kite or to sail a boat. Wind is
one of our cleanest and richest power source(来源), as well as one of the oldest. People began to use windmills
(风车)in West Asia about 2700 years ago. During the 1100s, European soldiers returned from the Middle East
and they knew how to use wind power. Then windmills first appeared in Europe.
For many centuries, people used windmills to make wheat(小麦)into flour(面粉)or get water from deep
underground. When people discovered electricity in the late 1800s, people living in faraway areas began to use
windmills to produce electricity. This allowed them to have electric lights and radio. However, by the 1940s when
almost all areas of the United States burned fossil fuel(化石燃料)for electricity, windmills disappeared.
During the 1970s, people started to care about the pollution from burning fossil fuel. People also came to
know that the fuel would run out one day. Although using wind power means more money, people still began to
use it and the use of wind is becoming more and more popular.

Life is like a competition. All people are different and how well you can do something is different to others.
Some kids can do something faster or better than other kids. This means there are “winners” and “losers”, and
lots of people are not winners or losers but in-between. You can choose to be a good winner or an even better
loser.

the final result and will only make you look worse. And no one likes it
To be an even better loser you need to:

When I arrived at my class on the early morning, I suddenly felt upset and uncomfortable. Today was the day
when our teacher would leave and move to another school. Mr. Smith was very easy to talk with and to have fun
with. He was cool, relaxed and was always friendly when you would see him. I couldn’t even imagine how things
were going to be without him.
“Thank you everyone for my time here. I will forever keep these memories and friendships I’ve made in the
past five years.” He took a deep breath and said, “As a moment for me leaving, please look under your seats.”
Confused, I slowly checked under my seat to see a yellow block of wood that read “Love” on it. I quickly got
it and began to study it. After seconds of watching the block, I realized that it was a Jenga block (积木块).
Tears ran down my face and fell on the Jenga block. I heard my classmates sobbing (抽泣). That was to say,
everyone in my class had a Jenga block with the word “Love”. We hadn’t found a way to express our sadness and
also we couldn’t find a way to express our love to the respectable man. “This is a reminder to always love others,”
Mr. Smith said slowly.
Maybe that day wasn’t the worst day, and it was just a moment of my life and I was too young to understand
Mr. Smith. What Mr. Smith taught us is that whenever and wherever we are, we should love others. The Jenga
