On September 29, the White House hosted a luncheon attended by Musk, Zuckerberg, Anthropic's Dario Amodei, Google's Sundar Pichai, Nvidia's Jensen Huang, Palantir's Alex Karp, Amazon's Jeff Bezos and OpenAI's Greg Brockman, among others.
Afterward, Trump signed an executive order directing the executive branch to use "Super Intelligence" (SI) in place of "Artificial Intelligence" in official documents and communications, and the White House Accord on Super Intelligence was released.

The core issue is a dispute over approach. Trump favors light-touch, self-policing regulation and argues the government cannot slow development for fear of falling behind China.
Some industry insiders, meanwhile, warn of catastrophic outcomes if control is lost. The meeting let the White House show that the industry can govern itself, while tying the most influential companies to one shared commitment.

Trump's argument is that "artificial" makes the technology sound less capable than it is, and he has said it isn't artificial at all. The White House fact sheet says the new name reflects the continuously advancing frontier. Last week he also polled his social media followers on "Super" versus "Superior."

Strictly speaking, the authority is narrow. The order covers non-statutory documents such as official correspondence and policy papers within the executive branch, and tasks the president's science adviser with proposing a federal definition.
It cannot bind Congress, private companies, or other countries and the global research community.
So it is better read as a shift in wording and political signaling than a legal "renaming." The accord itself makes no declaration about the name and only uses the new term in its title, and its full text had not been released by late Tuesday.

Amodei said that if done right and in cooperation with the president, the industry can "win safely".
Zuckerberg said the companies agreed to layered controls, including internal evaluations and external audits, to build public confidence that the technology works as intended.
Huang argued innovation and safety do not conflict. Musk stressed that AI and robotics will change the nature of jobs while staying optimistic about the outcome.

The significance lies not in the new word but in the government and leading companies formally endorsing a path of voluntary commitments and self-regulation.
How much force the accord carries depends on whether its details are published and independently verifiable. A name can change overnight; governance takes years to put into practice.
