Growing ups I always envied my friends who lived in one town in their whole lives. Coming from a military
family makes this impossible. My brothers and I soon found that if we didn’t like a place we lived in, we’d soon be
moving to a new place. Through all the ups and downs, I now realize that’s everything I’ve done, seen, and learned
has made me into the person I am today.
The field day was the best day ever created. Being good at sports which I had done together with parents
seemed to help me find my position at a new school. Despite the hot weather in San Antonio, Texas, I had to take
outdoor activities. Sometimes we took the family mountain biking after school. My brothers and I were arranged to
join in the swim team and practice yoga. These are the things I remember about my childhood. Now I thank my
parents for teaching me these vital principles, which I will have with me the rest of my life.
I was always the shy girl and afraid to be myself. This didn’t bother me until I reached junior high school,
when some girls judged me by what I wore, who I talked to and how skinny I was. I felt like I’d never done
anything wrong to deserve such criticism. It was not until last year that I realized that I had to stay different from
them and live my life according to my principles. I decided to be my own person. I never thought that being nice
could cause me to be disliked. Anyway, I began hanging out with girls who had a lot in common with me like
preferring outdoor sports. They were accepting and non-judgmental. I am now content with knowing that I am my
own person and don’t let others control my life.

A new research shows human activity is changing the sound of the Earth's oceans and seas. Scientists say the
sound changes of our oceans, seas, and other waterways affect many marine (海洋的)animals—from very small
shrimps to huge whales.
Sound travels very far under water, Francis Juanes, an ecologist at the University of Victoria in Canada, told
the Associated Press. For fish, he explained, sound is probably a better way to sense their environment than light.
Sounds help fish and other marine animals communicate with each other. Sounds also help some ocean animals
find food and avoid their hunters.
However, increased noise from humans is making it harder for these animals to hear each other. The noise is
coming from shipping traffic, underwater exploration, and other noisy human activities. For many marine animals,
their attempts to communicate are being masked (遮蔽)by sounds that humans have produced. Experts explain that
masking happens when one or more noises in the water block sound important to a marine animal’s living. The
overall number of marine animals has gone clown by about half since 1970. Some studies show the stress from
human noise might also affect the immune (免疫)system as well as reproductive health or behavior. “Imagine
having to raise your kids in a place that's noisy all the time.”said Joe Roman, a marine ecologist at the University of
Vermont.
When people think of problems facing the ocean, we often think of climate change, plastics and overfishing.
But noise pollution is another thing we need pay attention to. “Sound pollution may be easier to deal with than
更多资料添加微信号:hiknow_007 淘宝搜索店铺:乐知课堂other ocean problems,” Scientist Juanes says, “If we make nothing for the ocean, think about how to make it
quieter.”
18. Why is sound underwater important for ocean animals?

B. It travels very fast.
C. It helps them judge and contact.
D. It guides fishermen to find where they are.
19. What does Paragraph 3 mainly tell us?
A. Underwater exploration must be stopped.
B. Kids should experience noise to be healthy.
C. Human noise brings stress to marine animals.
D. Marine animals have got used to sound changes.
20. What is the author's purpose to write the text?
A. To introduce the benefits of sounds.
B. To show the effects of climate change.
C. To draw attention to sound pollution.
D. To share a method of studying ocean.

The 1993 movie Jurassic Park wasn’t the first film to show dinosaurs in the modern world. But it did a good
job of bringing the idea of cloning dinosaurs into popular culture. It represented dinosaur cloning in a way that
made sense to a lot of people, and it was a successful film, making more than $900 million worldwide.
Jurassic Park built on the idea of getting DNA from mosquitoes kept in amber. While this might seem
possible at first sight, it’s highly unlikely that scientists could find usable dinosaur DNA in mosquito fossils.
Scientists would need a very specific sample-a female mosquito that had taken lots of dinosaur blood immediately
before being trapped in amber. Since fossilization in amber is a relatively rare event, the chances of this happening
are pretty small.
The lack of possible samples isn’t the only problem. Most insect fossils found in amber are also too young to
contain dinosaur blood-dinosaurs were gone by the time the insects became trapped. Many insects went bad from
更多资料添加微信号:hiknow_007 淘宝搜索店铺:乐知课堂the inside out after they were trapped, leaving nothing inside for scientists to try to find. Finally, the sample would
have to be very dry, since DNA can break down quickly in the presence of water.
But if researchers did find a perfectly kept mosquito with a body full of dinosaur blood, bringing back its DNA
would still be difficult. The blood with the dinosaur DNA would be surrounded by the body of an insect, which has
its own DNA. There could also be DNA from the other cells trapped in the amber. Then, of course, there’s the DNA
in the laboratory itself-and in the body of the scientist.
22. Why is the film Jurassic Park mentioned at the beginning?
A. To introduce the topic of cloning dinosaurs.
B. To encourage scientists to clone dinosaurs.
C. To give a simple introduction to dinosaurs.
D. To stress the possibility of cloning dinosaurs.
23. The key to cloning dinosaurs is to gain ________.
A insect fossils.
B. dinosaur DNA.
C. dinosaur blood.
D. mosquitoes in amber.
24. What is the author’s opinion on cloning dinosaurs?
A. It’s a step away from success.
B. It will be a fruitless attempt.
C. It requires further research.
D. It lacks creative work.
25. What can be a suitable title for the text?
A. Why was Jurassic Park successful?
B. Reasons for dinosaurs’ dying out
C. Can scientists clone dinosaurs?
D. Ways of cloning dinosaurs

How to Have an Attractive Personality
Being attractive comes more from your personality than your appearance, and demonstrating an attractive
personality is key to having lasting relationships. ______26______The following tips help foster your ability to
fascinate others.
更多资料添加微信号:hiknow_007 淘宝搜索店铺:乐知课堂Laugh at yourself. If you make a fool of yourself, laugh at yourself instead of feeling embarrassed. It shows
that you’re comfortable in your skin. A sense of humor makes someone more engaging and delightful to be with.
______27______ It is a great ice-breaker or stress reliever, but don’t ruin a serious conversation with inappropriate
jokes.
Speak sincerely. Tell people the truth. If you can’t commit to something, it’s better to be honest about it
than to have to tell them last minute that you can’t make it. When people ask for your opinion, you should be
honest. ______28______ For instance, if you don’t like your friend’s shirt, respond with, “I really like you in blue
instead,” rather than, “I hate it, it’s ugly.”
______29______ If you see value in making others laugh and keep yourself positive, you’ll be a happier
person, making others drawn to you as a result. A great way to remind you to laugh more is to have daily jokes on
your phone or email. Set them for a time of day when you notice yourself start to feel drained.
Have confidence in your body. You don’t have to have the “perfect body” to be confident in it. People will
be more attracted to you if you dress well and carry yourself well. If you need a little boost, place posters around
your mirror that remind you of the charming parts of your body. _______30_______
A. Speak in a positive way.
B Make laughing a priority.
C. Remember, there is a time and place for humor.
D. There is difference between being frank and rude, though.
E. Focus on these rather than what you’re self-conscious about.
F. Actually, developing engaging personalities is not that far out of reach.
G. But having charming appearance is only skin-deep and far from enough.

No Time
With a broad smile on her lips, 15-year old Sirin rushed to her mom to show off her new painting. But mom
raised her eyebrows with eyes wide open, and spoke in an impatient tone, “No time, baby. Right now I am busy
with an important talk. Just wait for some time,OK?”
Holding her oil painting, she frowned (皱眉), and then searched for her dad.
“Dad, see what I have done,” Sirin announced aloud in a thrilling voice. Her dad turned around while adjusting
his tie, grinned at her, and showed his thumbs up!
Immediately, blowing her two cheeks, Sirin replied angrily, “Dad, you haven’t seen it yet.”
He smiled at her saying, “No time, baby. I will see it later.” He just patted her back lovingly, kissed her
forehead, and rushed for his office.
She was not a kid to be pleased with simple gesture or smile. She stood there for a few seconds, and then
stormed off to her own bedroom. Hot air was blowing from her nostrils (鼻孔); her face turned into apple red. She
threw the painting on the table, slammed (把……砰地关上) the door and threw herself on her bed.
“Why is everybody so busy?” She recalled thousands of incidents that hurt her in pre-school, middle school
and even in high school too! She assumed at least her own family members would give some values to her
thoughts, but they were no exception. Unconsciously, her eyes were filled with tears.
更多资料添加微信号:hiknow_007 淘宝搜索店铺:乐知课堂The knocking sound on the door put a sudden brake to her thought. Her mom was calling her for dinner. Sirin
deliberately came late to join them. She kept silent and didn’t look at anyone, scratching the table mat with her nail.
Her mom was puzzled at the unusual behavior. Suddenly, the morning incident clicked in her mind. Softly, she
asked, “Honey, did I do anything wrong?”
