A few years ago, the company I worked for sent my wife and me to live in New York for a year. I've always
loved running, so I was really happy when I found out I lived next to Central Park. This meant that every morning I
could go for a run before I went to work.
Because a lot of people had told me to be careful of robbers in the park, so usually I didn't take anything with
me. How could they rob me if I didn't have anything? But one morning, my wife gave me a $ 10 bill and asked me
to buy some bread on the way.
It was a beautiful morning and the park was quiet with very few people walking or jogging (慢跑) around.
While I was running through the park, another jogger knocked into me. He apologized and continued running. For a
while, I didn't think too much of it. However, when I noticed the wide path where I was running, I thought it was
kind of strange. The warning of robbers in the park occurred to me. “It could have been a robber!” I suddenly
became alarmed, so I checked my pocket and found that the money was missing. Without thinking twice, I ran after
that jogger. I finally caught up and held him by the arm. I shouted, “Give me the $10 bill! Now!”I am not usually a
hot-headed (性急的) person, but I got really angry this time. I couldn't believe the robbery was actually happening
to me. Filled with anger, I shook my fist at him. This seemed to frighten him. He quickly put his hand in his pocket
and gave me the money. Then he ran away as fast as he could.更多全科试卷及资料,请关注公众号:高中试卷君
I bought the bread and went home. As soon as I got home, I couldn't wait to tell my wife my story. “You won't

the bread on the kitchen table.”

【答案】
Looking at the money on the table, I stood there, shocked. For the rest of the day, I felt extremely guilty, with
the innocent jogger and his “helplessness”on my mind. “How could I be so rude to him without knowing the truth?
Why was it that the jogger gave me the money? I still remember his frightened face when I scared him away like a
monster. I decided to find a chance to apologize to him. The next morning, I got up and went to the park as usual,
but not for jogging. I just hung around where I met that jogger, but in vain.”
For several days, I waited at the same spot. But to my disappointment, he didn’t turn up. It was almost a week
later before I finally spotted him again. I, the “robber”, gave the $10 bill back to him and said sorry to him again更多全科试卷及资料,请关注公众号:高中试卷君

Thirty years ago, I was a sixteen-year-old boy, tall and thin. It was the end of summer and the cool winds of
fall were in the air. In front of a house, there was a truckload of wood, which my father, my brother and I had
unloaded the day before.
My father and my brother were out to do farm work, so I needed to move these pieces of wood around the
house again and again to where we were piling the chooped wood. And then I would cover it with oilcloth to keep it更多全科试卷及资料,请关注公众号:高中试卷君
from getting wet. In those days, we used to use these wood fires to cook. We tried our best to collect firewood
because we still needed some to get through the whole winter.
I worked fast at first, but soon I realized that I needed to go slower if I didn’t want to make myself too tired.
Then I spent much time piling the wood and tying it together with a rope in case of falling down. To start with, I
thought the work was boring. But then it became a game for me. Seeing that I could pile the wood so neatly, I
smiled during the hard work.
After a while, the wood was all piled up, and my skinny arms felt a little sore. However, I didn’t stop working.
I still needed to fetch some water with containers from the spring near our home. Our well water was so full of iron
that it tasted terrible, so all cooking and drinking water had to come from the spring. The five-gallon containers felt
like they weighed a ton, but I picked one at a time and carried them all up the hill to my house.
As I carried the last container back home, I saw my mother smiling at me at the door with a glass of tea in her
hand. She said to me, “Here you are, baby. Just take a break.” We sat down with our dogs at our feet, watching the
leaves blowing in the wind. Relaxing in the moment of peace and harmony, I figured out a good way to get water
easier.

【答案】
I decided to make a pipe to convey water. I managed to dig a deep hole and inserted a pipe. The pipe was long
enough to reach the spring while preventing animals from drinking the water. As the pipe was laid, I connected it to
a container and successfully directed water to it. My mother was thrilled to see this new system worked. This not
only reduced her workload but also made fetching water a much less strenuous task. The pipe system was a huge
success with our neighbors.
My neighbors came to my house to get water at dusk. They were all very appreciative of my ingenuity and
hard work. They even helped me improve the system by adding a second pipe and a larger container. This
additional pipe would allow more water to be fetched at once, reducing the number of trips needed. The larger
container would store more water, making it last longer. It was a win-win situation for everyone.

构成一篇完整的短文。
It was May 2018, and my partner, Gabe Rosescu, and I were taking a road trip in his little car from my home
in Weyburn, Saskatchewan, to visit friends in Nelson, British Columbia. It was our first trip together after six
months of dating, meaning it would be an adventure on so many levels.
At around 5: 30 p. m., we were driving along the Crowsnest Highway, a steep winding road that splits through
the southern Canadian Rockies. I was texting my mother when I happened to look up in time to see an enormous
tree in front of us on the highway —standing straight up!It was being pushed along by mud that was swallowing
everything in its path.
Within seconds, our car was rolling 900 feet down the cliffside.
I don’t know how long we were unconscious, but I woke up to the sound of Gab e moaning. He was slumped
over the steering wheel and his blood was everywhere.
The car had landed on a small rock amid trees that had come down with the slide. On one side of us was the
mountain. On the other, a steep drop of about 3,000 feet into a river.
I tried opening my door and was overcome by sharp chest pain. I’d later learn that I’d suffered a broken
breastbone. In addition, my left ankle had been crushed and my foot was practically turned sideways. Gab e had
broken his cheek bones, as well as his orbital (眼眶) bones, leaving him blind in his left eye.
With the passenger and driver’s side doors crushed shut, and my window impassable, the only way out was
through the driver’s side window. Neither of us remember doing it, but somehow we both managed to crawl out of
that wreckage. We sat on a log and considered our options.

【答案】
We had no phone signal, and the highway was 900 feet above us. All we could do was yell for help, and a
seemingly insurmountable distance seemed to separate us from potential rescuers. Our voices echoed through the
rugged terrain as we cried out for help, the desperation and urgency evident in every strained shout that escaped our
lips. The isolation of our situation weighed heavily upon us, and as the minutes turned into hours, we couldn’t help
but wonder if anyone would ever hear our pleas. The vast wilderness surrounding us seemed like an impenetrable
fortress, holding us captive in our difficult circumstances.
Fortunately, four passersby happened to spot our car the next morning. Amid the remote wilderness and the
echoes of our distress, their faint but distinct voice reached our ears, offering a glimmer of hope. They became our
unexpected saviors, guiding us to safety. Amid the overwhelming relief, two of the men helped Gabe climb the hill
while the others carried me. It was a challenging rescue. Eventually, we both made it to a nearby hospital. I was
released ten days after my surgery, but I now walk with a permanent limp, and Gab e lost vision in one eye. Despite
the hardships, this experience transformed us into more positive, grateful individuals. It strengthened our bond, and

Most people have an experience that they will never forget. For pilots Dave McMahon and Sydnie Uemoto, it
involved a plane crash, and an ocean, which made them realize the meaning of life and cooperation.
As the twin-engine Piper Apache flew 5,000 feet above the Pacific Ocean, 23-year-old pilot Sydnie Uemoto
and her co-pilot, 26-year-old Dave McMahon, heard the strange sound of the engines.
Then, without warning, the pilots lost power to the right engine. A moment later, the left one went.
At about 1,000 feet and falling quickly, Uemoto made their last call. “We’re 25 miles northwest of Kona,” she
said to air traffic control. “We’re going down.”
Then everything flashed white as the plane struck the surface of the ocean. McMahon and Uemoto were
thrown forward violently.
“Sydnie, get out !”McMahon called.
As the plane sank, they jumped into the ocean. Within seconds, the plane disappeared beneath the surface.
As the waves broke around them, McMahon and Ulemoto had done the impossible by suriving a crash landing
into the ocean. Now they just had to stay put, swimming in the warm sea.
“When will the Coast Guard get here?” Uemoto asked.
“They’re coming,” McMahon said.
After a couple of hours, McMahon’s prediction seemed to come true. A Navy plane appeared in the sky,
circling the area. It flew directly overhead as McMahon waved his life preserver (救生用具) overjoyed at the sight.
However, the plane continued on its way without spotting them.更多全科试卷及资料,请关注公众号:高中试卷君
As the sun grew dark, McMahon became scared. He thought they were going to have to spend the night on the
water.
“Hey, Dave?” Uemoto said softly at one point.
“Hey, Sydnie,” he called back.
When the sun rose that morning, the two pilots were greeted by a beautiful sight.

【答案】
After almost 20 hours, Uemoto’s body finally ran out of power. Then Uemoto heard the sound of he helicopter.
“It’s coming!” she shouted. “This is it, Sydnie,” McMahon said. McMahon and Uemoto waved their hands crazily.
To their disappointment, the helicopter flew overhead and then flew away. They had no choice but to hug in the
water because of their strong desire to survive. Alone, either of them would have died. However, they believed that
if they could help each other in danger and never give up, they would make it. Eyes up, they were looking forward
to seeing another helicopter.
A second helicopter (直升机) arrived ten minutes later. Seeing it, Uemoto and McMahon burst into tears,
waving their life preservers. After a few moments, a rescuer lowered himself into the ocean, followed by a metal
rescue basket that was tied to the helicopter. The rescuer guided Uemoto into the basket and, with a lift, she rose
into the air and toward the safety of the helicopter. Then it was McMahon’s turn. “This is a story we’re going to tell更多全科试卷及资料,请关注公众号:高中试卷君

完整的故事。
Prissy came to us as a puppy, a little black Pekinese mix with the cutest face. As cute as she was, Prissy had
one major flaw ——she couldn’t even find her way home from the mailbox.
We spent half our time hunting for that dog. We live in a rural community of northwest Georgia ——mostly
woods and a small lake. She loved that lake, and spent most days patrolling the water’s edge for frogs.
Prissy didn’t always stay by the lake, though. She liked to explore. Consequently, it became an almost weekly
ritual to look for her. We rescued her from a boot camp for troubled teens, a neighbor’s house six miles away, and更多全科试卷及资料,请关注公众号:高中试卷君
even once from fifty feet up an oak tree.
Prissy was smart but she never paid attention to where she was going. She would just put her nose to the
ground and start following a squirrel, rabbit or stray cat. When she finished her mission she would have no idea
how she got wherever she ended up.
After a while, most of our closer neighbors knew her. Consequently, she never really “had” to find her way
home because she would just go to the nearest front door and cry and whine until they let her in. They’d call, and
we’d drive over and get her. If we weren’t home, they would just load her in their car and bring her home.
However, one time when she wandered off, no calls came in.
She had been missing for about fourteen hours, and none of our neighbors had seen her, so we decided to
search by car. We drove up and down the surrounding roads calling out to her, driving slowly and checking house to
house. After driving several miles in the surrounding area, we became discouraged and decided to head home to
regroup and figure out what to do next.

Then, I caught a glimpse of something black in the road up ahead. My heart leaped as I squinted to get a better
look, hoping it was Prissy. As we got closer, the little black figure came into focus, and there she was, our
adventurous Pekinese mix, Prissy. She was sitting in the middle of the road, looking slightly disheveled but
otherwise unharmed. Her tail was wagging furiously as she saw our car approaching. I quickly pulled over, and my
family and I rushed out of the car, calling her name. Prissy bounded toward us with pure excitement, and it was a
heartwarming reunion.
Relieved and overjoyed to have found her, we scooped Prissy up into our arms, showering her with affection.
It seemed she had embarked on yet another one of her escapades, but this time, it had taken her further than ever
before. As we made our way back home with Prissy safely in our car, we couldn’t help but chuckle at her
unwavering spirit and her knack for turning every adventure into a neighborhood-wide search and rescue mission.

“Mary! Come and see what I have brought home!” My father opened the door and shouted cheerfully.
“Is it a dog?” I asked when I saw him hugging a huge creature in his arms.
My father nodded and put the dog on the floor. When it ran toward me, I pressed my hands tightly over my
mouth to hold back a scream. I turned around and rushed back to my room. I locked up the door as soon as I could.
Since I was attacked by a wild dog two months ago, I had been living in constant fear of dogs. I was confused
why my father was so happy to bring home such a scary thing. So I decided to stay in my room until the dog was
gone. After what seemed like ages, I heard the door open and shut.
“Finally!” I breathed in relief and opened the door cautiously.
To my shock, I felt something wet touching my foot. It was the dog! I froze there, as if my feet were rooted to
the ground. When I regained my senses, I screamed, “Daddy! It is the dog! Help! It wants to bite me! Get it away
from me!”
My father was standing by the other side of the door, folding his arms and encouraged me,“It is not going to
eat you! Mary, don’t be so scared. Go on! Touch it!”
I tried my best to control my fear and bent down to touch the dog. But I could not do it due to my constant and
uncontrollable shaking.
“Never! I will never touch that dirty thing! Take it away!” I shouted.
My father turned a deaf ear to my request. In despair, I picked up a tennis ball that happened to be on the floor
and threw it at the dog.

【答案】
The ball missed the target. Instead, it rolled across the living room. The dog ran excitedly after the ball and
brought it back to me. When it put the ball beside my feet and looked up at me with a big smile on its face, my
heart somehow softened. I reached out and tried to touch it. Obviously encouraged by my friendlier reaction, the
dog started rubbing its body against one of my legs.
But the next moment I was reminded of the awful experience. My hand stopped in the middle way. It seemed
that the dog understood what I was thinking about. It lay down at my feet and appeared so sad that I forced myself
to touch its fur, which the dog seemed to be quite enjoying. Since then I have overcome my fear and we have
