A My husband and I used to live in the city. But we often faced a lot of problems there. There was a lot of latenight noise. It was difficult to find parking. And the rent of the apartment was high. Finally,my husband and I decided to move to the suburb outside Boston. We started looking for our new home. It turned out that many other people were also moving to the suburbs and it wasn't easy to find a nice house there. Finally we went to see a small and dark house. It needed a lot of work. But it was well built and it was on a street where we could walk to Starbucks, restaurants and bus stops. Well, before I knew it,we had made an offer and the house became ours. On our first night in the house I cried for five hours. I thought we had made the wrong decision and I wanted to go back to the city—the house was smelly and old. And many families and old people lived around it. But after thinking of the problems we had when we were living in the city,I calmed down. Besides, our new home wasn't that bad, after all. I had a driveway of my own. There were three big bedrooms and a backyard for my dog. Oh,how lovely the sound of nothing was. I changed the house inch by inch and it became a very comfortable home. We have been in our house for over two years until now and it's the best move we have ever made. While I'm glad I can drive into the city in fifteen minutes and enjoy all it has offered,I'm always happy to return home. 1.Why did the writer and her husband move to the suburb? A.They found jobs there. B.They could only afford a small house. C.They dreamed of living in the country. D.They no longer liked living in the city. 2.On the first night in the house, the writer . A.was too excited B.felt scared living there C.regretted moving there at first D.was moved to tears by its quietness 3.What does the underlined sentence in Paragraph 3 show about the house? 更多资料添加微信号:hiknow_007 淘宝搜索店铺:乐知课堂A.It was lovely. B.It was really quiet. C.It had nothing in it. D.It has beautiful sound. B The negative health effects of sleep shortages during the week can't be changed by marathon weekend sleep sessions, according to a new study. Researchers have long known that routine sleep deprivation can cause weight gain and increase other health risks, including diabetes. But there are still some people who hope that shutting off the alarm on Saturday and Sunday will repay the weekly sleep debt and remove any ill effects. The research, published in Current Biology, ruins those hopes. Despite complete freedom to sleep in and nap during a weekend recovery period, participants in a sleep laboratory who were limited to five hours of sleep on weekdays gained nearly three pounds over two weeks and experienced metabolic disruption that would increase their risk for diabetes over the long term. While weekend recovery sleep had some benefits after a single week of insufficient sleep, those gains were wiped out when people returned right to their same sleep schedule the next Monday. “If there are benefits of catchup sleep, they're gone when you go back to your routine. It's very short- lived,” said Kenneth Wright, who oversaw the research.“These health effects are longterm. It's kind of like smoking once was—people would smoke and wouldn't see an immediate effect on their health, but people will say now that smoking is not a healthy lifestyle choice. I think sleep is in the early phase of where smoking used to be.” Wright said that the study suggests people should prioritize sleep—cutting out the optional “sleep stealers” such as watching television shows or spending time on electronic devices. Even when people don't have a choice about losing sleep due to childcare responsibilities or job schedules, they should think about prioritizing sleep in the same way they would think about a healthy diet or exercise. 4.What had the researchers already known before doing the new research? A.The actual benefits of weekend recovery sleep. B.Harm to health caused by the lack of routine sleep. C.People's habit of shutting off the alarm during holidays. D.The relationship between body weight and sleep amount. 5.Kenneth Wright mentioned smoking to . A.call on smokers to completely abandon smoking B.advise people to go to sleep when they want to smoke C.show people have known the harm brought by smoking D.show people will someday notice the bad effects of sleep deprivation 6.What does the underlined word “prioritize” in the last paragraph probably mean? D.Treating something as being more important than others. 7.What can be the best title for the text? A.Weekend catchup sleep is a lie B.Bad sleep habits are harmful to health C.Smoking is not the worst thing to health D.A new study has an unexpected discovery C Emotional eating is when people use food as a way to deal with feelings instead of to satisfy hunger. We've all been there, finishing a whole bag of chips or eating cookie after cookie while preparing for a coming exam. But when done a lot—especially without realizing it—emotional eating can affect weight, health and wellbeing. One of the biggest beliefs about emotional eating is that it's caused by negative feelings. Yes, people often turn to food when they're stressed out, lonely, sad, anxious or bored.Nevertheless, emotional eating can be linked to positive feelings too, like the romance of sharing dessert on Valentine's Day or the celebration of a holiday feast. More often, though, it's the countless little daily stresses that cause someone to seek comfort or relaxation in food. We all have our own comfort foods. Amazingly, they may vary according to moods and sex. One study found that happy people seem to want to eat things like pizza, while sad people prefer ice cream and cookies. Bored people desire salty, fragile things, like chips. Girls go for chocolate and ice cream. This brings up a curious question: Does no one take comfort in carrots and cabbages? Researchers are looking into that too. What they're finding is that highfat foods, like ice cream, may activate certain chemicals in the body that create a sense of contentment and fulfillment, which may actually make you reach for these foods again when feeling upset. We're all emotional eaters to some extent. But for some people, emotional eating can be a real problem, causing serious problems such as weight gain. Managing emotional eating means finding other ways to deal with the situations and feelings that make someone turn to food. For example, do you come home from school each day and automatically head to the kitchen? Stop and ask yourself. “Am I really hungry?” Are you having difficulty concentrating? If these signs point to hunger, choose something light and healthy to take the edge off until dinner. 8.The first two paragraphs are designed to . A.offer advice on how to comfort an annoyed child B.explain the function of eating an ice cream C.put forward the idea of emotional eating D.stress the importance of friendship 9.People turn to emotional eating because . A.they suffer from weight problems 更多资料添加微信号:hiknow_007 淘宝搜索店铺:乐知课堂B.they want to seek comfort or relaxation C.they have a strong desire for food D.they benefit a lot from eating 10.Which of the following may not serve as comfort food? A.Cookies. B.Carrots. C.Chips. D.Pizzas. 11.What's the main idea of the last paragraph? A.Eat whenever you can't concentrate. B.It is natural to feel hungry after school. C.It's hard to tell physical hunger from mental hunger. D.There are ways to break the cycle of emotional eating. D Unhealthy diets are responsible for preventable deaths globally per year, more even than smoking tobacco, according to a major study. “But the biggest problem is not the junk food we eat but the nutritious food we don’t eat, ” say researchers, calling for a global shift in policy to promote vegetables, fruit, nuts and beans. While sugar and trans-fats are harmful, more deaths are caused by the absence of healthy foods in our diet. Heart attacks are the main diet-related causes of death, followed by cancers and diabetes (糖尿病). The study found that eating and drinking better could prevent one in five deaths around the world. “Rather than trying to persuade people to cut down on sugar, salt and fat, which has been the main focus of diet policy debate in the past two decades, it would be better to promote healthy options. Adoption of diets emphasizing beans and other healthy plant sources of protein, for instance, will have important benefits for human health, ” note the researchers. The study is the most comprehensive analysis on the health effects of diet ever conducted. It looked at 15 different nutrients, giving detailed knowledge of the analysis and summary of the risk factors of them. Tom Sanders, a professor of nutrition and dietetics (饮食学), said the analysis put too much emphasis on individual components rather than the overall diet. “Overweight is a major driver for risk of diabetes as well as cancer and the health evidence for this relationship is strong. Overweight is caused by eating more food energy than required rather than specific dietary components such as sugar. The trend for populations to sit too much is a major reason why there is an imbalance between energy intake and 更多资料添加微信号:hiknow_007 淘宝搜索店铺:乐知课堂consumption but increased availability of foods with high calories makes it too easy to overeat. ” 12. What do the researchers think is the best way to lower preventable death rate? A. Restricting junk food. B. Trying to eat healthily. C. Avoiding risk factors. D. Adopting high-calorie diets. 13. What’s the major concern of the current diet policy? A. The diversity of food. B. The importance of nutritious food. C. The reduction of unhealthy food intake. D. The balance between diet and exercise. 14. Which of the following does Tom Sanders agree with? A. The analysis overlooks dietary integrity. B. Overweight results from diabetes and cancer. C. People who rarely exercise must diet strictly. D. Particular dietary components lead to overweight. 15. Where is the text most likely from? A. A product brochure. B. A cookbook. C. A medical textbook. D. A health journal. 第二节(共5小题:每小题2.5分,满分12.5分) 根据短文内容,从短文后的选项中选出能填入空白处的最佳选项。选项中有两项为多余选项。 Do you feel a little guilty about your daily nap(小睡) after lunch? Don’t.Research shows that catching a short nap can be good for your brain. 1 While a 30to90minute nap in older adults appears to have brain benefits, anything longer than an hour and a half may create problems with cognition(认知),the ability to think and form memories, according to the study published in the Journal of the American Geriatrics Society. “ 2 But it is related to one’s sleep cycles and quality,” says Charlene Gamaldo,M.D., medical director of Johns Hopkins Sleep Disorders Center.“As the study showed, for older people, longer naps tend to interfere(妨碍) with cognition,” she says. 3 Nearly 60 percent of participants reported napping after lunch for about an hour.Scientists found that people who napped for 20 to 90 minutes have a better memory than people who did not nap,or 更多资料添加微信号:hiknow_007 淘宝搜索店铺:乐知课堂who napped for longer than 90 minutes.People who napped for 30 to 90 minutes were also better at figure drawing, another sign of good cognition. One theory explains poor cognition in those who take longer naps. 4 “In the study, naps longer than 90 minutes could have been called ‘a second sleep’.This poor quality nighttime sleep, which requires extralong napping during the day,can lead to cognitive problems,” Gamaldo adds. According to Gamaldo, longer naps can cause a couple of other problems, including temporary grogginess(眩晕无力) and inability to sleep at night. 5 As a result,“People need to get the right quantity and quality of rest,” says Gamaldo. A.I consider napping to be a good thing. B.But it is the length of your nap that matters. C.Generally speaking, the older one gets, the longer naps one needs. D.Researchers looked at data from 2,974 people in China aged 65 and older. E.Resting more during the day may be a sign of poor quality nighttime sleep. F.Taking long naps during the day makes it difficult for one to fall asleep at night. G.Overall, studies show that people who sleep too much or too little may have poor health. A king once went to a master.
