Tu Youyou, the first female Chinese scientist to receive a Nobel Prize, is the role model in my heart.
After graduating from university, she acquired a broad knowledge of both Chinese and Western medicine
through constant learning. Determined to find a cure for malaria, she referred to numerous ancient books of
traditional Chinese medicine. After working tirelessly and going through many failures, she eventually discovered
artemisinin, the world’s most effective drug for fighting malaria, thus saving millions of lives all over the world.
Tu Youyou’s life story tells me that under no circumstances shall we acknowledge defeat and that success will
belong to those who insists on trying.
