Abandoned outside an orphanage as a baby and adopted at the age of three by a family in the Netherlands, 16-
year-old model Abbing has become known around the world, as a model who has appeared in fashion magazines-
but also as an inspiring representative of the albino(白化病人)community.
When it comes to modelling, Abbing has found her difference more of a blessing: She is represented by the
Zebedee Talent agency, which aims to make people who have disabilities more visible in the world of fashion.
“I want to help people to see that being different is good, and definitely not some curse (诅咒), as they believein countries like Tanzania and Malawi, ” said Abbing. “Some companies try to include models who are different,
but sometimes for the wrong reason, because they want to say: ‘Hey, look at us! We are also including people with
differences or people of different color’. ”
But Abbing welcomes what she sees as a shift. People now want to learn about and accept differences. “They
should also talk with people with differences directly, ask them questions and listen to what they have to say,” she
urged.
When not in front of the camera, Abbing loves climbing and swimming, and used to love competitive sports.
It’s important for her to focus on what is possible, rather than what isn’t. “At school, teachers tend to look at the
things you cannot do. I really didn’t like that, although they meant well, I would rather they had focused on the
things I can do instead.”
Abbing loves travelling, meeting new people and particularly working with artists. The teen also pours her
creativity into decoration artwork. ”Because I see the world from a different angle, my artwork turns out a little
different as well, " she said.

Next time you’re having trouble solving a tricky puzzle, consider asking a nearby bumblebee.
A new study in the journal PLOS Biology finds that bumblebees can learn certain behaviors from each other,
suggesting these social insects have a capacity for what we humans call “culture.”
In the past couple of decades, a growing body of evidence has shown that animals like chimps and birds show
behaviors of learning. If what they learn lasts for a long time, it turns into a tradition. And culture is made up of
multiple traditions. “Bumblebees, though, have some of the most complex behavioral abilities, nobody’s really
thought to look at culture in such insects and generally assume they’re mostly driven by inborn factors instead,”
says Alice Bridges, a behavioral ecologist at Anglia Ruskin University in England.
To prove them wrong, Bridges built a puzzle box, whose base held the reward: a drop of super sweet sugar
water. The box was designed with a rotating (旋转) top that can be rotated by pushing either on a red tab clockwise
or a blue tab anti-clockwise. Some bees were trained to push the red tab to get the sugar water while others pushed
the blue one. Then, these tutor bees were placed inside different colonies (蜂群), along with the puzzle boxes.
The experiment ultimately played itself out. In colonies where the tutor bee had originally learned to push the
red tab, the other bees in the colony usually pushed the red tab. In colonies where the tutor bee was trained to push
the blue tab, their fellow bees also tended to do the same. In contrast, in the control groups without tutors, the bees
sometimes learned how to open the boxes, but most of them would do it once or twice and then never again. “They
perhaps hadn’t quite made the link between their behavior and the reward,” Bridges supposes.
“Many of us consider ourselves to be rather special…because we have culture, we can learn and we’re social,”
Bridges says. “But now it turns out that even the bee also has culture, which is an uncomfortable truth: human
culture, once thought unique, does not emerge ‘out of the blue’ but has obviously built on deep evolutionary
foundations.

Nearly 10,000 protesters came out in support of the Black Lives Matter rally in London. Londoners filled
Victoria Park in support of the Black Lives Matter movement against the systemic racism and police brutality (暴
行) happening in the United States and Canada.
The Black Lives Matter movement has seen thousands of people across Canada, the United States and the
world join together following the death of George Floyd, a black man died in police custody after a white police
officer was filmed kneeling on his neck. Floyd’s death in Minneapolis was only the latest in a number of cases of
Black men dying while in police custody.
“Racism happens here, it happens to me, it happens to my son, it happens to my friends, and we have just been
quiet and silent for far too long,” said Alexandra Kane, a spokesperson for Black Lives Matter London movement.
She is hoping that from the Black Lives Matter movements they can see reform and changes within the government
so that both Black and Indigenous people are “viewed and treated fairly”. “We want people within our own Black
community to know we support each other. We don’t often congregate and come together, but now we can do so
safely without the fear of being put into a stereotypical category.”
“I can’t even begin to name all of the times in the 18 years of my life that someone or something has made me
feel less than because of the color of my skin,” one of the organizers, Simone Schacht, said when speaking at the
rally. Meanwhile, “It disgusts me because we are human beings just like anyone else and we should not be treated
differently,” cried 10-year-old Noah.
Nichelle Samuel was there with her husband and daughter in solidarity with her fellow Black Canadians
calling for change. “Every time my husband leaves the house, it’s a constant worry something may happen,” she
said. “Seeing what happens in the states only kind of effects here on a silent level. I want this rally to let peopleknow this stuff happens silently, and if you see it, you hear it, do something about it.”
