The virus has caused many people to work from home. If companies decide to continue allowing this, it will ease the burden on public transport. Many train and subway systems in major cities were struggling with the number of daily passengers. With restrictions and social distancing in place on many modes of transport, people have been shifting towards cycling as an alternative way to get around. During June 2020, the UK saw cycling levels rise by 300%. This was pushed by a government policy that allowed people to buy a bike tax-free, allowing savings from 25% upto 39% depending on the cost of the bike. The coronavirus has also seen significant impact on jobs, with over 650,000 people in the UK having lost their roles during lockdown, mainly in the retail and service section. However, other sections, such as technology, were much better as people try to find technical solutions to lockdown, such as video calling. Although it has been a shock, the world has adapted quickly to coronavirus, and many are hoping that these changes are here to stay, highlighting the fact that traditional ways of living and working should remain in the past. 第二部分 阅读(共两节, 满分50分) 第一节(共15小题; 每小题2.5分, 满分37.5分) 阅读下列短文,从每题所给的A、B、C、D四个选项中选出最佳选项。 A (2023·广东深圳·高三校联考开学考试)Since 2017, ARTogether has presented over 200 workshops, camps, events, and gathering spaces for immigrants to meet, connect, and build lasting connections in the community. When it comes to modelling, Abbing has found her difference more of a blessing: She is represented by the Zebedee Talent agency, which aims to make people who have disabilities more visible in the world of fashion. “I want to help people to see that being different is good, and definitely not some curse (诅咒), as they believe in countries like Tanzania and Malawi, ” said Abbing. “Some companies try to include models who are different, but sometimes for the wrong reason, because they want to say: ‘Hey, look at us! We are also including people with differences or people of different color’. ” But Abbing welcomes what she sees as a shift. People now want to learn about and accept differences. “They should also talk with people with differences directly, ask them questions and listen to what they have to say,” she urged. When not in front of the camera, Abbing loves climbing and swimming, and used to love competitive sports. It’s important for her to focus on what is possible, rather than what isn’t. “At school, teachers tend to look at the things you cannot do. I really didn’t like that, although they meant well, I would rather they had focused on the things I can do instead.” Abbing loves travelling, meeting new people and particularly working with artists. The teen also pours her creativity into decoration artwork. ”Because I see the world from a different angle, my artwork turns out a little different as well, " she said. 24.What is the main reason for Abbing’s being chosen by Zebedee? A.Her physical disability. B.Her youthful appearance. C.Her success in the fashion world. D.Her fame in the albino community. 25.What does Abbing think of some companies hiring disabled models? B.Outgoing and patient. C.Confident and optimistic. D.Athletic and humorous. 27.What message does Abbing’s story convey? A.Everyone is born equal. B.Don’t judge a book by its cover. C.Love makes the world go around. A new study in the journal PLOS Biology finds that bumblebees can learn certain behaviors from each other, suggesting these social insects have a capacity for what we humans call “culture.” In the past couple of decades, a growing body of evidence has shown that animals like chimps and birds show behaviors of learning. If what they learn lasts for a long time, it turns into a tradition. And culture is made up of multiple traditions. “Bumblebees, though, have some of the most complex behavioral abilities, nobody’s really thought to look at culture in such insects and generally assume they’re mostly driven by inborn factors instead,” says Alice Bridges, a behavioral ecologist at Anglia Ruskin University in England. To prove them wrong, Bridges built a puzzle box, whose base held the reward: a drop of super sweet sugar water. The box was designed with a rotating (旋转) top that can be rotated by pushing either on a red tab clockwise or a blue tab anti-clockwise. Some bees were trained to push the red tab to get the sugar water while others pushed the blue one. Then, these tutor bees were placed inside different colonies (蜂群), along with the puzzle boxes. The experiment ultimately played itself out. In colonies where the tutor bee had originally learned to push the red tab, the other bees in the colony usually pushed the red tab. In colonies where the tutor bee was trained to push the blue tab, their fellow bees also tended to do the same. In contrast, in the control groups without tutors, the bees sometimes learned how to open the boxes, but most of them would do it once or twice and then never again. “They perhaps hadn’t quite made the link between their behavior and the reward,” Bridges supposes. “Many of us consider ourselves to be rather special…because we have culture, we can learn and we’re social,” Bridges says. “But now it turns out that even the bee also has culture, which is an uncomfortable truth: human culture, once thought unique, does not emerge ‘out of the blue’ but has obviously built on deep evolutionary foundations. 28.What is people’s common attitude to bumblebees having culture? A.Positive. B.Indifferent. C.Interested. D.Doubtful.29.Why does Bridges place trained bees inside different colonies? A.To test their learning capability in new settings. B.To see if they will spread the secret of the boxes. C.To evaluate their ruling power in various groups. D.To observe if they will share their food with peers. 30.What does the last paragraph mainly talk about concerning the study? A.Its appeal to the public. B.Implications on cultural origins. C.Its practical application. D.Suggestions for future directions. 31.Which of the following can be the best title for the text? A.Human Culture Is Losing Its Uniqueness B.Bee’s Behavior Builds on Biological Factors C.Culture May Be Present Among Bumblebees D.Animals’ Evolution May Start From Colonies 【答案】28.D 29.B 30.B 31.C 【导语】本文是一篇说明文。主要介绍了一项新的研究发现大黄蜂具有人类所说的文化的能力。 28.推理判断题。根据第三段““Bumblebees, though, have some of the most complex behavioral abilities, nobody’s really thought to look at culture in such insects and generally assume they’re mostly driven by inborn factors instead,” says Alice Bridges, a behavioral ecologist at Anglia Ruskin University in England. Little did I know that the real excitement wasn’t to begin until that night. While we watched the fireworks, I began to get an urge to go to the restroom, but I didn’t want to miss the show. I overheard my sister Isabel talking to my mom, and I got closer to them to hear what they were talking about. “Mom, I’m going to the bathroom with Lizette, okay?” said Isabel. “Okay,” my mom replied, “but stay together. I don’t want any of you getting lost. ” The second I saw my sisters leaving, I didn’t think twice before running after them—without telling my parents. As I followed them through the huge crowd of people, I started to lose sight of them. I began to panic as I scanned the crowd for them. Crazy thoughts ran through my head like “What if I never see my family again?” I gave up trying to find my sisters and tried to get back to my family, but I was completely mixed up. After searching for what seemed like forever, I couldn’t hold back my tears, and I started crying like I had never cried before.“Mommy!” I cried out. But everyone around me was too caught up by the fireworks to pay any attention to me. I tried to stop the scary thoughts that were going through my head and started running as fast as I could...anywhere...everywhere. I was going crazy. I’m only six, and I’ve gotten lost. “What have I done? How could I have been so dumb to run off without telling anyone?” I thought. With my face wet from tears, I kept running, pulling at people’s pants and crying, “Mommy!” I was hoping, wishing, that one of these adults would be one of my parents. 注意: 1. 续写词数应为150左右; 2. 请按如下格式在答题卡的相应位置作答。 Luckily, I felt a pat on my shoulder and a gentle voice came, “Are you lost?” ____________________________________________________________________________________________ ____________________________________________________________________________________________ ____________________________________________________________________________________________ ____________________________________________________________________________________________ _________________________________________________________________________________________ Finally, through the crowd of people, I recognized a face. ____________________________________________________________________________________________ ____________________________________________________________________________________________ ____________________________________________________________________________________________ ____________________________________________________________________________________________ ________________________________________________________________________________________ 【答案】 Luckily, I felt a pat on my shoulder and a gentle voice came, “Are you lost”? “Yes!” I cried. It was a lady working at Disney. She picked me up and carried me through the crowd as she kept asking me where my parents had been standing. As I began to feel safe in the lady’s arms, I calmed down and thought for a few minutes. I remembered we had been leaning against a wooden fence. She carried me around the wooden fence, asking random people, “Is this your child?” “No. Sorry,” everyone kept saying. You’re sorry? Look at me. I’m looking for my mommy, I thought. Finally, through the crowd of people, I recognized a face. I was so happy. “Mommy!” I shouted as Ipointed toward her so the lady could carry me to her. When the lady put me down, I ran to my mom and gave her a huge hug. I couldn’t let go of her. I didn’t want to lose her again. As I cried in my mother’s arms, my family thanked the nice lady for everything she had done for me. For the rest of the evening and the entire next day, I was more concerned with making sure that my parents were within my sight at all times than I was with seeing the sights at Disneyland. I look back at these memories and laugh at myself, but to this day, I always make sure to tell someone where I am going before I run off. 词汇激活 行为类 ①镇定下来:calm down/compose oneself ②跑向某人:run to sb/rush to sb ③拥抱:gave sb a hug/hug sb/embrace sb 情绪类 ①高兴:happy/delighted ②感谢:thank/show appreciation/show gratitude/be grateful 【点睛】【高分句型1】She picked me up and carried me through the crowd as she kept asking me where my parents had been standing.
