专题 08 善行与义举 刷大题、提能力 1.(2023·全国·高三专项练习)阅读下面材料,根据其内容和所给段落开头语续写两段,使之构成一篇完 整的短文。 The Bicycle When I was nine I needed to earn some money, so I asked Mr. Miceli, the newspaper publisher in my Chicago neighbourhood, about an after-school paper route. He agreed only if I had a bicycle. My dad bought me a used bike, but right after that he fell ill and couldn’t teach me to ride. Mr. Miceli, however, merely asked to see the bike. So I walked to his garage, showed it to him and got the job. At first, I filled my delivery bag with rolled papers over the handlebars and walked my bike down the sidewalks. But pushing a bike with a load of papers was awkward; after a few days I borrowed Mom’s two-wheeled shopping cart. It took me longer to make my deliveries by cart, but I didn’t mind. I sent each paper to its proper destination. In rain or snow, I put Dad’s old raincoat over the cart to keep the papers dry. I got to meet everyone in the neighborhood — working-class people of Italian, German or Polish origins who were invariably kind to me. When Dad returned from the hospital, he was too weak to resume his original job. Now we needed every penny we could raise to pay bills, so we sold the bike. Mr. Miceli must have known I wasn’t using a bike, but he said nothing about it to me. On the Thursday evening before Christmas, 1951, I rang my first customer’s doorbell. Even though the lights were on, nobody answered, so I went on to the next house. No answer, nor did anyone respond at the next family on my route, or the one after. I was very worried; I had to pay for my papers every Friday. And while it was almost Christmas, I never thought that everyone would be out shopping. So I was very happy when, going up the walkway to Mr. Gordon’s house, I heard music and voices. I rang the bell. 注意: 1. 续写词数应为 150 左右; 2. 请在答题卡的相应位置作答。 The door flew open, and Mr. Gordon dragged me inside.____________________________________________________________________________________________ ____________________________________________________________________________________________ ____________________________________________________________________________________________ ____________________________________________________________________________________________ ________________________________________________________________________________________ After walking the bicycle home, I opened those envelopes. ____________________________________________________________________________________________ ____________________________________________________________________________________________ ____________________________________________________________________________________________ ____________________________________________________________________________________________ ________________________________________________________________________________________ 2.(2023·湖北·高三统考阶段练习)阅读下面短文,根据所给情节进行续写,使之成为一个完整的故事。 A few years ago, I was having dinner with some good friends from work to celebrate the upcoming Christmas holiday. As we were finishing up that evening, one of my friends told us a very sad story about something that had happened the day before. Her son’s friend was in his md-twenties and self-employed. He lived on the second floor of a house nearby. Someone who lied on the first floor had been smoking and fell asleep. The house burned down. All the people escaped, but the house was completely destroyed with everything in it. All this young man had were the clothes on his back and his pickup truck. He had no family in the area and nowhere to go. My friend was putting him up for a few days until he could decide what to do next. Those of us sitting at the dinner table were horrified. Everyone started opening their wallets to contribute money. My friend put up her hand and said, “He will not accept money. We tried to persuade him, but he thinks it is charity and won’t take it. All he wants is a warm coat and some used clothing if anyone has some.” We were all more than happy to fulfil this request and were told that he wore a size 2XL. None of us knew men who wore that size, so it was going to be a bit of a challenge to take care of this quickly. It was a typically cold New York Christmas, and I couldn’t imagine him without a coat. I shed tears on the drive home, a combination of grateful tears for the many blessings I had in my life and sad tears for this poor young man and his troubles. I went to bed and woke up in the middle of the night with a very clear thought in my mind. I was to find this young man a coat. 注意:1.续写词数应为150左右; 2.请按如下格式作答。 Paragraph 1: The next morning, I went to a nearby charity shop and a lady greeted me with a smile. ____________________________________________________________________________________________ ____________________________________________________________________________________________ ____________________________________________________________________________________________ ____________________________________________________________________________________________ ___________ Paragraph 2: A few minutes later, she came out of the backroom with a brand-new coat. ____________________________________________________________________________________________ ____________________________________________________________________________________________ ____________________________________________________________________________________________ ____________________________________________________________________________________________ ___________ 3.(2023·重庆·实验外国语学校三模)阅读下面材料,根据其内容和所给段落开头语续写两段,使之构成 一篇完整的短文。 When I was young, there was an apple orchard (果园) near my home. The man owning the orchard employed some migrant families to gather apples and care for the trees. They worked hard but got paid and fed little. Once my grandmother struck up a conversation with one of the young women. Her name was Maria. She and her husband, Tony, were expecting a baby. “We’re going to stay with my parents,” Maria said. “We work here to earn money for the bus ticket.” “They’re going to need a lot of things when the baby comes,” Grandmother told me when we got home. “Let’s ask God to send angels to help that young couple.” “Angels?” I was surprised. “If we do our part, angels will do the rest.” she said. Grandmother went to the closet and brought out a box filled with S & H trading stamps, which can be used to buy things. She spilled the pile of stamps on to the kitchen table. “You can see I’ve been saving up the stamps for just the right purchase.” We sat down at the table and looked through the baby section of the S & H content. My eyes fell on abassinet (摇篮) with a silk canopy (罩篷) over it. “That’s what a young mother will need,” Grandmother said. “Let’s see if we save 20 books of stamps, we can get a bassinet.” In the coming weeks, we tried hard to collect the stamps, but before Maria and Tony left, we were three books short. And there were no angels helping us with the stamps either. “Open the content,” Grandmother said. “Let’s pick a bassinet we can afford.” We chose one without a canopy. The next day we went to the Green Stamp store to get it. “Maria will love this one just as much.” Grandmother assured me as she pushed the door open. I couldn’t help but feel disappointed. Grandmother gave the clerk the information and handed over the 17 books of stamps we saved. The clerk walked to the backroom and returned empty-handed. “I’m sorry,” she said. “We don’t have such a bassinet for the 17 books of stamps.” 注意:1. 续写词数应为150左右; 2. 请按如下格式在答题纸的相应位置作答。 I couldn’t believe it. Yes, thank you!” James replied and hung up the phone. He had applied to be an in- house volunteer at a foster (寄养) group home and was finally accepted.James, who was just 29 years old, had never considered starting a family. He always wished for one but quickly dismissed the idea, preferring to remain unmarried because his finances never encouraged him to consider starting a family. In his spare time, James liked helping the poor and orphans (孤儿) as he had been in their shoes at one point and could connect better with them. When he was eventually approved as a volunteer at the group home, he felt very satisfied. Though he always felt alone, being a volunteer at the group home came with the company of children; and James was very fond of children. Not to mention, he was a very kind man too. One day, a little girl called Layla was brought in while James was working at the foster home. Tightly, she hugged her teddy, her favorite toy she called Mr. Fluffy, as she got down from the car at the front gate. James had overheard the foster carer talking about the girl, and he knew she was brought here because her single mother had died, leaving her an orphan. As she walked in, James could see her eyes were teary, and she was looking around, confused. Still feeling bad for her, James returned to his other engagements that day. Suddenly, the girl came running up to him and began pulling his shirt. “Daddy, did you come for me? Are you going to take me home?” she asked, smiling through tears, and James was shocked. He’d never had a girlfriend, much less a child. Why was she calling him dad? Trying his best to hide his shock, he smiled and knelt in front of her.“Hi, I’m James. You’re Layla, right? I’m sorry, sweetie, but I am not your daddy.” 注意: 1.续写词数应为150左右; 2.请按如下格式在答题卡的相应位置作答。 The girl’s smile disappeared, and she started to cry. ____________________________________________________________________________________________ ____________________________________________________________________________________________ ____________________________________________________________________________________________ ____________________________________________________________________________________________ ___________________________ James looked up and saw the foster carer, Clara, who seemed very worried. ________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ ____________________________________________________________________________________________ ____________________________________________________________________________________________ ___________________________ 5.(2023·江苏盐城·统考三模)阅读下面材料,根据其内容和所给段落开头语续写两段,使之构成一篇完 整的短文。 Her pale face stood out against the blackness of her hair. She looked much younger than her fifteen years, a worn coat hanging loose above her. We weren’t supposed to take a child, but an emergency call came through that morning. A home was needed for a young girl immediately. I, together with four children, hurried to get her room ready. The kids were great. Joanne, our second-eldest daughter, did the cleaning and Margaret, Rob and Jeff helped make the bed. I felt my heart pounding in my chest. I was excited, but scared at the same time because I was told an adopted child might give us a lot of trouble. That afternoon, Trudy arrived with the social worker Mrs. Kline. She stepped into the front hall and stood against the wall. I will never forget the look in her eyes. The first thing that came to my mind was that she looked like a hunted animal. The children moved towards her, and Jeff grabbed her hand and said proudly, “Come and see your room. I helped make your bed.” Trudy pulled back, speechless. At this point, I stepped towards her and said, "Welcome to our home, Trudy. “She looked at me with such blank eyes. But with her head bowed, she simply said, eyes moving back and forth like a creature looking for a way out, “No, thank you.” For the first two weeks, Trudy was very quiet. She would come into the kitchen while I was working, and we would discuss school and what she would like to do in the future. Mrs. Kline had given us all the information about her history, but I never mentioned the terrible things that had happened to her. As the days went by, Trudy became a delight to have around. Very quickly, it seemed like she had always been with us. The girls would sit in each other’s rooms and giggle(咯咯笑) like typical teenagers. It was a sound that warmed my soul. However, when they talked about new clothes, Trudy fell silent again. 注意: 1. 续写词数应为150左右; 2. 请按如下格式在答题卡的相应位置作答。 I took Joanne shopping for a winter coat, and Trudy came too. ________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ ____________________________________________________________________________________________ ____________________________________________________________________________________________ ____________________________________________________________________________________________ ____________________________________________________________ Back home, I presented the jacket Trudy had tried on. ____________________________________________________________________________________________ ____________________________________________________________________________________________ ____________________________________________________________________________________________ ____________________________________________________________________________________________ ____________________________________________________________________________________________ ____________________________________________________________ 6.(2023·河北保定·统考二模)阅读下面材料,根据其内容和所给段落开头语续写两段,使之构成一篇完 整的短文。 The Greatest Thanksgiving “Are you going grocery shopping today?” my husband, Roy asked when I picked up the telephone. “I plan to,” I answered. Thanksgiving was only a couple days away. Everyone in our family would be coming to our house. My funds were limited, therefore my box of coupons (优惠券) awaited me in the car. I knew I had to be creative in my shopping that day. I had to stretch every dollar. For a few seconds, Roy sat silently on the other end of the line. “Why do you ask?” I uttered, fearing what he might say. “Nancy, there’s a family with a half dozen kids that will not have anything to eat for Thanksgiving. The little one is only five years old. While you’re at the store, could you possibly buy something for them?” Roy’s words echoed in my heart. My head began to spin (眩晕)thinking about the fifty dollars I had reserved for our family’ s Thanks giving dinner. In the back of my mind I counted the hungry guests who would be coming to our house for dinner. I put my head down on my desk, already feeling defeated. There’s no way possible, I thought. But the sympathy I heard in my husband’s voice struck a nerve inside me. “Sure.” I replied.I finished my work and prayed all the way to the nearest grocery store. The turkeys were indeed on sale—29 cents a pound, but I discovered one big problem. When I read the sign posted on the freezer door, my heart sank. “Limit one.” “But I need two,” I uttered to myself, I decided to find the manager. I explained the problem. He made an exception. After tossing two turkeys in the cart, I began my shopping. It was amazing how many buy-one-get-one-free items were being featured that day. In addition, I had all the right coupons to get exactly what both families needed for a hearty Thanks giving dinner. I held my breath while the cashier rang up my groceries. To my surprise, I had enough money. I was even able to purchase a package of cookies for the five-year-old who had stolen my heart, even though I had never met her. 注意: 1.续写词数应为150左右; 2.请按如下格式在答题卡的相应位置作答。 Later that afternoon, Roy and I made a special delivery to a home filled with children of all ages. ____________________________________________________________________________________________ ____________________________________________________________________________________________ ____________________________________________________________________________________________ ____________________________________________________________________________________________ _______________________________ On that Thanksgiving Day, my entire family also shared a hearty meal with us. ____________________________________________________________________________________________ ____________________________________________________________________________________________ ____________________________________________________________________________________________ ____________________________________________________________________________________________ _______________________________ 7.(2023·安徽芜湖·统考二模)阅读下面材料,根据其内容和所给段落开头语续写两段,使之构成一篇完 整的短文。 After being busy for half a year, my parents decided to drive me to a scenic spot outside the city to have fun. Joyfully, we planned our driving route. Then, on a December Saturday morning, my dad started his car and we set off with great expectation. Beforelong, we left the noisy city and came to the mountains. There were few vehicles on the road and the trees alongside were pretty. We felt so excited! As a few hours passed, we drove onto a narrow road. And minutes later, we found a river not far away from the road. The beach was very wide, and we wanted to have a rest there for a while. So my dad turned our car and drove towards it. Soon, we were driving on the sandy beach. Moments later, our car wheels were struggling in the increasingly soft sand. But my dad wanted to get closer to the river. Before he regretted it, our car had got stuck in the sand. My dad tried to turn around or move back, but the car didn’t move. We were worried, trapped in the middle of nowhere. Even worse, it began raining and was cold. We got out of the car and tried to push it, but failed. After a couple of minutes, we were tired and our hair and coats were a little wet. But the car only sank further into the sand. Anxiously, we walked to the road, eager to stop a vehicle and let it help pull our car out of the sand. Our coats and hair were wetter and wetter. Before the journey, we hadn’t prepared umbrellas or carried any food. Now, we were hungry and cold, standing in the rain. After waiting for a long time, there wasn’t one vehicle passing. Just when we were helpless, we saw a farmhouse not far away. “Can they help us?” I asked. My dad was doubtful. Still, we reached there, and found it was a big family. They seemed poor and unfriendly. My dad told them our problem and begged them to help us pull our car out. 注意: 1. 续写词数应为150左右; 2. 请按如下格式在答题卡的相应位置作答。 To our surprise, they nodded without thinking. ____________________________________________________________________________________________ ____________________________________________________________________________________________ ____________________________________________________________________________________________ ____________________________________________________________________________________________ ______________________________________________________________________________________ My dad was so grateful that he handed some money to the family to thank them. _ ____________________________________________________________________________________________ ____________________________________________________________________________________________ ____________________________________________________________________________________________ __________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ 8.(2023·安徽宣城·统考一模)阅读下面材料,根据其内容和所给段落开头语续写两段,使之构成一篇完 整的短文。 I spent most of my teenage years in an old farmhouse in the Durham County countryside. That was more than 30 years ago, but life there dated back to an even earlier era I spent my summer days doing manual labor in the tobacco fields, while my summer evenings were spent preparing vegetables in the backyard. My fall weekends were often spent cutting wood and storing logs for the fire. Some of my neighbors still had outhouses. We had an indoor TV receiver which helped us tune into the few television stations we could watch. Living where we did, we could see three or four other houses from our own, none of them within shouting distance. We knew our neighbors, most of whom were elderly. My father wouldn’t let other folks do without when he had enough, so we helped them out when they needed it. Jimmy lived across the street, on the far side of a tobacco field. He was seventy years old and lived alone. He lost his wife two years ago. He had barely supported himself these last couple of years since his health had gotten worse. One day, we went to visit him at his home. It was a small wooden house with dirty windows and a curtain that had been mended several times. The poor old man would sit in an armchair by the window, holding a faded (褪 色的) photo, and with tears in his eyes, recall happy memories of his wife. One weekend, my father went to check on Jimmy, but a rare heavy snow happened to fall. It was so heavy that he couldn’t get his old truck up Jimmy’s uneven (不平坦的), snow-covered road Nobody could understand what made Dad climb the 400 yards or so to Jimmy’s house. My brother and I were waiting anxiously at home. After a long time, he rushed home and told us that Jimmy was sick and had no firewood left. 续写要求: 1.续写词数应为150左右; 2.请按如下格式在答题卡的相应位置作答。 Paragraph 1: My father asked us if we would like to help. ____________________________________________________________________________________________ ____________________________________________________________________________________________ ____________________________________________________________________________________________ ____________________________________________________________________________________________ _______________________________________________________________________________________We knocked on Jimmy’s door, and he greeted us. ____________________________________________________________________________________________ ____________________________________________________________________________________________ ____________________________________________________________________________________________ ____________________________________________________________________________________________ _______________________________________________________________________________________ 9.(2023·河北·模拟预测)阅读下面材料,根据其内容和所给段落开头语续写两段,使之构成一篇完整的 短文。 It was 7:15 a. m. on Monday, and Frank, an engineer, was on his morning run along the East River. Suddenly, something caught his eyes-a large 60-year-old man balancing on the four-foot-high railing (栏杆) that guarded the path from the water. Curious and confused, Frank stopped to get closer to the scene, only to find the man took a step forward and dropped into the dark river below. When Frank reached the railing, the man was struggling in the water, clearly unable to swim. He screamed desperately for help as the current pulled him away from the bank. By now, a crowd had gathered on land. People had called the police, but it was unclear when they’d get there. Without hesitation, dropping his phone and keys on land, Frank jumped in. Just as the old man was losing strength, Frank grabbed hold of him. Unexpectedly, the strong wind forced the water to tear them apart again. Having seen what had happened, another two joggers made a quick response. They dived from where they stood into the river, and swam towards the pair, who were about 30 yards from the seawall. Immediately they caught up to the old man. The three stabilized him, with one supporting his back and the other two holding him up from either side. However, the old man was unresponsive, but not unconscious. As the men made their way towards the seawall that stretched for blocks in each direction, Frank had an awful realization: With the water flowing a good eight feet below the lip of the wall and no ladder or dock in sight, there was no way out of the river. ”A rescue boat is on its way, “ someone yelled to them. The old man, who was six foot two and weighed around 260 pounds, was deadweight in his rescuers’ arms, which meant they could only use their legs to save themselves. They were almost out of energy at that point. 注意: 1. 续写的词数应为150左右; 2. 请按如下格式在答题卡的相应位置作答。 Then appeared a rescue boat with a pole attached to it.____________________________________________________________________________________________ ____________________________________________________________________________________________ ____________________________________________________________________________________________ ____________________________________________________________________________________________ ____________________________________________________________________________________________ ____________________________________________________________________________________________ The old man was rushed to hospital. ____________________________________________________________________________________________ ____________________________________________________________________________________________ ____________________________________________________________________________________________ ____________________________________________________________________________________________ ____________________________________________________________________________________________ ____________________________________________________________________________________________ 10.(2023·湖北·校联考模拟预测)阅读下面材料,根据其内容和所给段落开头语续写两段,使之构成一 篇完整的短文。 My husband Erik and I had promised the kids a Labrador puppy. I’d seen the ad at the local hardware store. “Thirteen puppies in all, “Sally, the owner, said when I called. ”There’ re only three left. “I decided to take a look the next day. The boys jumped and shouted excitedly as I copied down directions and hung up the phone. Early the next morning, still discussing names, we wound our way through the mountains to meet our family’s new best friend. Our boys had simple names: Ike, Sam, Ben, and Dom, so they Preferred simple names like Rosy ,too. Finally, we met the sweet little dog. ” Rosy, “the boys called it softly. Our little puppy cocked her head. ” She likes it,“they cheered and set about making Rosy comfortable for the long drive home. They offered her a chew toy and lifted her up so she could see out the window. They took turns holding her in their arms lovingly and offered her a snack. Though small, Rosy grew strong and healthy beneath her shiny black coat. And, just as I’d hoped, she was a calming addition to our houseful of noisy boys. But something was wrong. “It’s like she doesn’t know how to play,” Sam commented one day after school. “Dogs have different personalities, just like people,”I said. “Besides, she’s still very young. ” “But her legs aren’t very long, and one eye is smaller than the other,”Ike added, trying to make sense of why Rosy was different from other puppies he’d met.I looked across the room to where Rosy sat between the boys. The last golden rays of autumn sunshine shone brightly on her face. Sure enough, one eye was misshapen. Not only that, it didn’t glint (闪光) in the afternoon light. I drew in a breath. Rosy, our puppy with a name as short as her four little legs, was blind in one eye. 注意: 1. 续写词数应为150左右; 2. 请按如下格式在答题卡的相应位置作答。 Everyone in the room became serious and sad. ____________________________________________________________________________________________ ____________________________________________________________________________________________ ____________________________________________________________________________________________ ____________________________________________________________________________________________ _______________________________________________________________________________________ Surprisingly, the boys refused to give the little puppy back. ____________________________________________________________________________________________ ____________________________________________________________________________________________ ____________________________________________________________________________________________ ____________________________________________________________________________________________ _______________________________________________________________________________________
