一、知识点梳理
读后续写是近年来高考英语科目新增的一个写作题型，要求考生根据所给文章、段落
开头语及标出的关键词(部分试题无关键词)对所给材料进行续写，将其完善为一篇与给
定内容融治度高、衔接合理、结构紧凑的完整短文。《普通高等学校招生全国统一考试
英语科考试说明》对本题型的说明为:提供篇350词以内的材料，要求考生根据所给情
节续写一篇150词左右的文章，使之构成一个完整的故事。
读后续写所给文章的体裁非常固定，均为记叙文。在考查形式上，则根据关键词(在
所给文章中用下划线标出)的有无分为两种。
故事主题主要倾向于选择家庭趣事或温馨小事，或者惊险刺激、充满悬念的野外遇险
故事、善举助人、难忘回忆:故事主要角色的属性较为固定，通常为同个家庭的成员;故
事主要场景一般是家中或者野外;同时，多次有动物角色登场。
在对所给文章进行续写时，动作、语言、神态和心理的描写是四大基本要素。备考
时，考生需重点积果这四大要素的常用及出彩表达，并不断进行相应主题的练习。此外，
考生也应注意积累环境描写以及动物描写相关的表达，并对一些节日风俗有基本了解。
题型分析
【典例】
（2023·河北·模拟预测）阅读下面材料，根据其内容和所给段落开头语续写两段，使之构
成一篇完整的短文。
Two things changed my life: my mother and a bike basket. It’s true. I would be a different
person if my mom hadn’t turned a bike basket into a life lesson I carry with me today—a lesson
about the value of efforts.
My mother and father were united in their way of raising children, but it mostly fell to my
mother to actually carry it out. Looking back, I honestly don’t know how she did it. Managing the
family budget must have been a very hard task, but she made it look effortless. If we complained
about not having what other kids owned, we’d hear something like, “I don’t care what so-and-so
got for his birthday. You are not getting a TV in your room or a big party.” We had to earn our
allowance (零用钱) by doing chores (家庭杂务) around the house. I can still remember how long
it took to polish the legs of our coffee table. My brothers can no doubt remember hours spent
cleaning the house. We had to keep track of our belongings, and if something was lost, it was not
replaced.
It was one summer day. My mother drove me to the bike shop to get a tire fixed—and there it
was in the window—white, shiny, plastic and decorated with flowers: The basket winked at me

“It’s beautiful,” my mother said when I pointed it out to her. “What a neat basket.”

“You know,” she said, gently rubbing my back while we both stared at what I believed was
the coolest thing ever, “if you save up, you could buy this yourself.”

Linda was angry. She shouted back. “Who are you to tell my son what he should be doing?
Just get lost!” The group of boys didn’t leave. They just stepped into the court, playing basketball
to enjoy themselves. They ignored Linda and Caleb, not laughing at Caleb any longer although
they still thought Caleb wouldn’t make any achievement in basketball no matter how hard he tried.
And Caleb was already upset by the group of boys’ hurtful words. Tears welled up in his
eyes. “Could we please go home, Mom? I don’t want to be here any longer,” he whispered.

True, I thought, but who wants a bucketful of broken shells? Will stared at me as if he knew what I
was thinking. “Mom, these shells are broken, but they are still beautiful,” he explained.

in no time.” Lin parked the cart and glanced at the shovel and flashlight inside it. His shovel and
flashlight. He had used them before. Now they only reminded him of his fear.
Lin turned his back on the cart and walked down to the river. Grandfather would call when he
was finished. Until then, Lin would put as much distance as possible between himself and the
cave.
Lin watched two little birds splashing about at the edge of the river. He enjoyed the peaceful
view over the vast river surface. Then Lin realized that Grandfather’s “no time” had turned into a
long time.
Lin hurried up the hill toward the cave. The cart was still there. Grandfather was still inside.
Something had gone wrong.

Growing up, I was always around my grandma Meredith. She was the one who originally

lively, joyful Meredith I had seen while I was growing up.

“Grandma,” I sighed, “I’m not Tony. That’s dad, your son. I’m Hank.”
This was the start of a months-long journey of helping out around the house—cooking,
cleaning, and, most of all, keeping grandma in good health and good spirits.
Every day, I cooked delicious food to keep everyone’s spirits high. But, secretly, I hoped that
cooking some dishes that we had made together in my. Childhood would somehow help get
grandma’s memory of me back, if just for a moment.
Stews (炖菜), chops (排骨), roasts— I served all of these to grandma and my parents around
the clock. When I wasn’t taking grandma out for a walk in her wheel chair or changing her bed
sheets, I was cooking. I had cooked for celebrities while at the restaurant in New York City, but
never had I poured my heart out into my meals than I did then for grandma. However, it didn’t
work at all.
