>>> Is the Clean Hong Kong campaign (运动) working?
My dad had to pay a $1500 fine today for throwing a cigarette butt on the
LittleBug 88:
ground. An officer caught him and gave him a ticket. That's just bad!
Littering is against the law. If you break that law, you're a "littler bug", and have
MsNeat99: to pay the fine. You bring that onto yourself! The law is there to deter people
from littering and to keep our environment clean.
Well, I'm against this whole Clean Hong Kong campaign as it just doesn't work!
LittleBug 88:
There's still litter everywhere!
TidyBunny: What's the Clean Hong Kong campaign?
The government started it to make Hong Kong cleaner. It's now illegal to litter
or spit in public places. The campaign includes posters and television
MsNeat99:
advertisements to educate people about the law and encourage them to keep
Hong Kong clean.
I think the campaign is a great idea. I always pick up after myself and try to
TidyBunny:
keep all public places clean.
I really support this campaign too. It's important to keep our public spaces
MsNeat99:
clean, otherwise diseases can spread quickly, and we can get very sick.
I know a clean environment is important, but the campaign just isn't effective.
LittleBug 88:
After all, people still litter and spit in public spaces.
If you aren't worried about the fine, then you'll litter. But as long as some people
TidyBunny: are worried about the fine, they won't litter. The fine works if it prevents some
people from making public spaces dirty.
I agree! The campaign works if it helps keep public spaces cleaner. Hong Kong
MsNeat99:
would be much dirtier without the campaign!
TidyBunny: People need to know it's important to keep Hong Kong clean.
LittleBug88: But what can I do? I can't clean up Hong Kong clean!
Everyone needs to do their part. If everyone cleaned up after themselves, the
TidyBunny:
environment would be a lot cleaner.Yes, but many people still think it's harmless if they just throw small things on
LittleBug88: the ground. I've seen people drop sweet wrappers on the ground when they think
no one is looking.
We need to be aware that small things add up to big things when many people
MsNeat99:
do it! Keeping public spaces clean benefits everyone.
Maybe the fine will help some people see that littering or spitting isn't so
TidyBunny:
harmless!
It's helped my dad to see that. H e will definitely think twice before littering
LittleBug88:
again. A $1500 fine isn't harmless!

It's been said that fashion is a language all its own. If that's true, then some of the most
effective communicators today are fashion vloggers. In the past, fashion magazines were a great
source of information. Today, however, news and information about the latest styles can be easilyfound on the Internet. Fashion vloggers ____65____ exciting new ways to learn about trends (潮
流) and other topics. They make and post videos that show them using different types of fashion
items. Many vloggers work hard to be connected to their viewers. ____66____, the viewers are
loyal (忠诚的) to their favorite vloggers.
What makes vloggers so popular? They typically don't start out being famous. More often,
they are "one of us": ____67____ people who love fashion and want to share ideas. Their
followers simply have faith in them and often buy the items they feature.
Vloggers often create demonstration videos. How to tie a scarf and how to apply makeup are
two popular themes. Outfit ideas are another popular topic for videos. For example, a vlogger
might show the ____68____ how to match certain clothing items.
Korean-American Chriselle Lim is one of the most famous fashion vloggers. The videos on

Vietnamese-American Wendy Nguyen is another favorite fashion vlogger and a true

important role vloggers play in today's fashion and beauty industry.

Good things often come in small packages. This is e___71___ true in the case of miniature
art (微型艺术), where, upon close observation, great things are often revealed. The National
Gallery of London describes "an artist who paints in great details on a very small scale" as a
miniaturist. The pieces that miniaturists create are called miniature art. E___72___ examples can
be dated back to centuries ago in many places around the world. In India, tiny drawings were
painted on to palm leaves 7.62 centimeters wide. A 12.5-millimeter-tall carving of a bird,
d___73___ in Lingjing, China, has been called China's oldest work of art. The carving, about13,500 years old, might be one of the world's oldest pieces of miniature art.
Over the years, miniaturists have used many different m___74___, from paper to plant seeds,
to create tiny paintings, sculptures and engravings of people, animals and scenery.
Two things are required of each artist: plenty of time and being p___75___ to create
miniature art. The pieces are so tiny that they need to be worked on carefully and slowly.
Though small, the pieces must be perfectly formed. Someone o___76___ said, "A miniature
must always be designed for close observation. It is meant to be held in the hand, watched closely
and even to be looked at with a magnifying glass." Tiny miniature paintings must be accomplished
with such fine strokes (笔划) that when the piece is magnified, its amazing detail is enhanced. The
same is true for miniature sculptures and all other forms of miniature art. Miniature art began to
l___77___ its attraction in the 19th century when photography appeared. Over the last 30 years,
though, miniatures have been made popular again. It is unlikely that miniature art will ever go
away as long as people remain fascinated by tiny masterpieces.
D. Answer the questions (根据短文内容回答问题) (12分)
The Boy Who Harnessed the Wind《驭风男孩》tells the true story of William
Kamkwamba. He grew up in a small village in Malawi, Africa. He and his friends Geoffrey and
Gilbert made what toys they had from trash. They attended Wimbe Primary School and helped
their families in the fields. William and Geoffrey had interest in radios and took them apart to
understand the machinery inside. William looked forward to secondary school and talking science
classes. In December 2000, heavy rains made it too hard for farmers to plant their corn. Although
worried about a terrible harvest, William began trying to understand how bicycle dynamos (发电
机) work. They could light a bulb using the electricity produced by someone pedaling. He
dreamed of how his family's life would improve with electric power.
By December 2001, the corn supply in his village was nearly running out, and families were
starving. William learned that he had been accepted into secondary school, which would give him
a chance to achieve his goals. But soon after classes began, William was forced to leave school
because there was no money for his school tuition.
Finally in March 2002, there was corn, and families could eat again. William started thinking
about school and visited the library at Wimbe Primary School to keep his mind active. There, he
found books on physics and engineering. From the pictures and diagrams in the book Explaining
Physics, William got the idea to build a wind mill to produce electricity. He began spending his
days looking for old machinery parts. To the people in his village, William seemed to have gone
crazy. But William, with the help of Gilbert and Geoffrey, built the wind mill. It worked! He
wired a system of lights for his house and also figured out how to charge cell phones. When some
officials visited Wimbe Primary School, they noticed William's wind mill. One helped spread the
story of the boy with the talent for science across Malawi and the world. William went to a TED
Conference in Tanzania. Then he got the chance to attend the African Leadership Academy in
South Africa where he met other young inventors and scientists. They all wanted to make Africa'sfuture brighter.
William's true story tells us that everybody should make efforts to realize his or her dreams.
