The Pause Pod has been made fun of on social media as a really expensive children's tent for adults,
but its inventors think it is actually a portable(便携式的)“private space free from stressful moments”.
The Pause Pod is designed to provide its user an escape from the pressure of modern life, anytime,
anywhere.Whether you're wanting to take a short sleep, read your favorite book or watch a film,at the
office,at home or even on the street, all you have to do is take out your portable Pause Pod,step inside
and take a break from the outside world.
When you want to use the Pause Pod,all you have to do is take it out of its bag, unfold it and get
in.The whole process takes only a few seconds. It is made out of a highquality material that can block about
99% of outside light when zipped up,allowing you to enjoy a good night's sleep in the middle of the
day.Other special features include a collapsible (可收缩的) pocket that allows you to lie down and extend
your legs as much as necessary,a pillow,a reading lamp, and a pocket for valuable things.
Because of its obvious similarity to a children's tent, the Pause Pod has been made fun of on social
media, but a lot of people apparently love the idea of a portable escape from the outside world,as shown
by its successful crowdfunding (众筹) campaign. The Pause Pod simply smashed its $10,000 goal,
raising $100,000 in 30 days ,as well as an extra $40,000 in preorders. In spite of the widespread
disapproval, its inventors consider the pod a success.

A.It turns out to be out of fashion.
B.It is similar to a children's tent.
C.It isn't as good as advertised.

9.What is the inventors' purpose of designing the Pause Pod?
A.To help its user rest at will.
B.To make its user fall asleep soon.
C.To give its user more time to enjoy himself.
D.To offer its user a temporary relaxation space.
10.What can we learn about the Pause Pod from Paragraph 3?
A.It is easy to set up.
B.It can keep its user's valuables safe.
C.The highquality material leads to its high price.

Twenty years ago,I arrived in central Florida from Puerto Rico.I had heard of a job opportunity and
decided to pursue it.But it never became a reality.I quickly learned that being alone without resources in an
unfamiliar city was not a comfortable situation to be in.
Once my limited funds ran out I became homeless and spent a year and a half living on the streets of
Orlando.Apart from feeling not being noticed and missing my family,I had to face another challenge—
hunger.
For the first time in my life,I,as a foreign man,who had lived my life in the relative comfort of
the middle class, understood the desperation someone feels when they don't get enough to eat.I clearly
remembered having run a distance of more than 7 miles on many occasions just to make it to a local
feeding program before they closed at 7 p.m.
Once the need for food was met,the next challenge would arise—where to find a place to sleep for
the night.Fortunately, local programs like the Coalition for the Homeless,Second Harvest Food Bank
and the Wayne Denseh Center were an important part of my ability to survive my painful experience.
With the assistance of these programs,I was accepted by a college scholarship program through the
Coalition and obtained two degrees from Valencia.
My experience has helped me understand that devoting my life to helping others offers lasting
rewards.Today,I am employed as Childhood Hunger Programs Manager at Second Harvest Food Bank
and oversee the summer feeding,HiFive Kids Pack, and Kids Cafe programs.I am also proud to be able
to distribute (分配) food resources to those wonderful programs and help hundreds of people like me.

A.It was hard for the author to get a job then.
B.Many local people were out of work in Florida.
C.Florida was not a good place for people living there.
D.The author rejected many chances to get a job in Florida.
13.Why did the author run a distance of over 7 miles on many occasions?
A.Because he didn't want to be late for work there.
B.Because he desired to get some free food to eat.
C.Because he went there to give his hand to the poor.
D.Because he helped distribute food resources to the poor.
14.Before being accepted by a college scholarship program, the author ________.
A.had been living his life in the relative comfort of the middle class
B.had won his degree in a university
