In 1987, a small company named Huawei was started in Shenzhen. After more than 30 years of development, the company has now beaten Apple and become the world’s second-largest maker of smartphones. It has also
become the world’s largest supplier of 5G. In China and even in the world, Huawei is a wonder. Although it started
producing mobile phones not many years ago, it has become one of the most famous phone companies.
But recently, Huawei faced some difficulties. The U.S. government ordered a ban (禁令) on its sales in
America. American officials said Huawei gave information that it collected to the Chinese government. At the
same time, The U.S. government planned to stop selling parts and services to Huawei, which was believed that
Huawei’s business would be hurt.
“We have never received such a request from the Chinese government and we have never tried to get into
other systems to collect information.” Ren Zhengfei, Huawei’s founder and president said. “The ban from the U.S.
would have little effect on our company. Huawei has enough ability to deal with the problems.” Ren added.
In an interview several years ago, Ren Zhengfei said, “I started Huawei with only £4,000 at the beginning, but
的
now it has become a $100 billion company. The experience was not as romantic ( 浪漫 ) as you imagine.”
Facing the ban of the U.S., Huawei is growing. Huawei’s smartphone sales around the world rose 50 percent
compared to a year earlier in the first three months of 2019. At the same time, sales from both Samsung and Apple
fell. So far, Huawei has grown into the world’s largest telecommunications equipment supplier, selling in 170
countries. It may beat Samsung as the largest smartphone maker in the near future.
24. From what Ren Zhengfei said, we can learn that Huawei ________.

C. can solve the problems they are facing
D. is asked to supply information to China

Fresh green grass, hundreds of colorful wild flowers, water running into little pools, birds making their homes
in boxes, the 9,500-square-meter Augustenborg Botanical Garden may look just like any other well-organized park,
but there’s a difference. It lies on the roofs (屋顶) of industrial and office buildings in the city of Malmo in Sweden.
Green roofs are not a new invention. And now they are getting popular again. The common roofs of a modern
city have endless black surfaces with no life or water. Perhaps that’s why a garden on a roof becomes such a
perfect choice for more and more people.
Green roofs are not just pretty. They also help to moderate the city temperature. The high temperatures on
common roofs in the summer can make top floor flats uncomfortably hot. What is more, they play a part in making
the cities hotter than the countryside around them, causing the “urban heat-island effect”. On a green roof, however,
with its plants and water, temperatures change only a little, as they do in a park. Rooftops covered with plants help
keep buildings cool. Green roofs take in rain water and protect the city drainage (排水) system. They can reduce
water runoff into streets and storm water systems. This can greatly cut the costs of heating and cooling in the
building below.
Also, _______. Small animals and birds can make their homes on it. Thanks to this, the city may become part
of nature, rather than something completely separate from it. Though they won’t directly replace ground
environments, they’re perfect for attracting birds and other wildlife to create a eco-friendly habitat (栖息地).
A green roof helps to improve the overall air quality, too. According to a study, green roofs help reduce (减少)
up to:
37% of sulfur dioxide
21% of nitrous acid
0.2kg of dust particles / square meter each year
While the cost of building such a roof can still be higher, it can be cheaper in the long term as a result of
energy savings. And wouldn’t it be wonderful to be able to walk out into a garden high above the city’s noise and
traffic, whether you’re at school or in an office or just at home in a ten-floor block?
27. With the example of Augustenborg Botanical Garden, the writer wants to explain ________.
A. how wildlife is protected B. what a green roof is like
C. how to organize a good park D. what to do with a spare roof
28. The word “moderate” in Paragraph 3 probably means “________”.
A. raise B. check C. record D. control
29. Which of the following is the best sentence to fill in the blank in Paragraph 4?
A. a green roof is alive B. a green roof protects animalsC. a green roof is perfect D. a green roof helps the environment

“Don’t ask what the world needs. Ask what makes you come alive and go do it. Because what the world
needs is people who have come alive,” said Howard Thurman. Yes, one of the best ways to learn about other people
and other places is by visiting, connecting, and experiencing them yourself. Traveling the world opens your mind.
I remember when I was traveling, I began to know the world better. The world is not just about me, my small
town and home. Although you will meet different people from all over the world, you will realize that people are
similar in their dreams, hopes and feelings. Enjoy exploring the different cultures, and you will also find that people
are different in some of the things they do and how they live. Once you understand their ways, it will not be strange
or scary. Often you read stories about other cultures in books. Only when you visit their areas do you find that those
stories are sometimes wrong.
One thing you may find out is that there are problems all over the world. You cannot just get money to send to
these areas and hope that will work them out. The world should get involved and help wherever there are problems.
People everywhere should be given a chance. It is so easy to ignore (忽视) this if one does not travel or explore.
One can look around and see that so many people have many challenges worse than ours. One can realize that
sometimes our biggest problems are not that big after all.
On your journey you will meet a lot of new friends. Talking to strangers and finding about their lives is a great
way to spend your time. You will certainly be more confident after having to deal with problems and make many
decisions along the way.
When you travel, you have to be on your own in some situations. You will surprise yourself by how well you
can do that. All your special experiences could make an interesting book to read. It would be filled with all your
adventures and special memories.
Traveling around and seeing so much happening in the world around us is a wonderful experience. If we could
all just travel a little more and share our experiences, we would all be better people and the world would be a better
place.
30. The writer wants to tell us that ________ in Paragraph 2.
A. traveling can help us realize our dreams
B. traveling can help us better understand the world
C. traveling can help us find stories in books are sometimes wrong
D. traveling can help us know people all over the world are different
31. The writer advises us to help the areas in need by ________.
A. offering them chances B. sending them moneyC. giving them challenges D. finding out their problems
32. Which of the following would be the best title for the passage?
A. Traveling Makes One a Better Person
B. Traveling Makes the World a Better Place
C. Traveling Helps People Make More Friends
D. Traveling Helps People Share Their Experiences
33. What is the writer’s main purpose in writing this passage?
A. To show how traveling can change the world.
B. To tell people how to travel around the world.
C. To encourage more people to travel around the world.
D. To share the writer’s travel experiences with other people.

The Forbidden City
People who have visited the Forbidden City would be impressed (给…留下深刻印象) by the wisdom of the
ancient Chinese. The Forbidden City lies in the center of Beijing, north of Tian’anmen Square. It has 9,999
buildings, which are surrounded by a six-meter-deep moat (护城河) and a ten-meter-high wall. The wall has a gate
on each side: the Meridian Gate to the south, The Shenwu Gate to the north, the Xihua Gate to the west, and the
Donghua Gate to the east.
The Forbidden City got its name by forbidding (禁止) common people to enter unless they were allowed. The
,
city is divided into two parts. The southern part or the Outer Court was where the emperor (皇帝) exercised
his power over the nation. The Outer Court covers a large space between the Meridian Gate and the Gate of

The building of the palace began in 1407, the 5th year of the Yongle rule. It was not completed until 1420. It
was said that a million people, including one hundred thousand skilled workers were driven into long-term hard
work. It was said that a well was dug every fifty meters along the road in order to pour water onto the road in
winter to move huge stones on the ice into the city. Ancient Chinese people showed their great skills in building theForbidden City.
Until the last emperor of China was driven from the Inner Court in 1924, fourteen emperors of the Ming
Dynasty and ten emperors of the Qing Dynasty had ruled there. The Forbidden City had been the imperial (帝国的)
palace for some five centuries. It was home to a large number of people, as many as 9,000 in the high point of the
Qing Dynasty, including the royal family members, servants, and guards. And now it is the world’s largest palace
museum. In 1987, it was recognized by UNESCO as a world cultural legacy. Now it is also one of the most popular
tourist attractions worldwide.
