Lucy’s Summer Cottage (小屋)
On the last day of school, Lucy cheered with her classmates. School was over, and summer was beginning!
Some children were excited to go to camp, or travel on a vacation, or maybe just stay home and play games.

What Could the School of 2050 Look Like?
A big development today has been the improvement in technology, and we can be certain that it will continue
to play an important role in the future.
In 2050, there will be green technology in schools. Recycling will be more common. Some schools may go
one step further. They may have vertical (垂直的) farms for both teaching students and giving vegetables to the
local communities.
For the schools of the future, there will be no curtains. We will have smart glass for windows. It can change
the color with the sunshine to protect both our eyes and screens.
We may see a change towards a more interactive (互动的) way of learning. To better prepare students for the
workplace, schools will pay more attention to the development of students’ teamwork and problem-solving skills.
Schools may use artificial intelligence (人工智能) to deal with students’ work. It can help teachers understand
which students need more guidance before they fall behind. The use of artificial intelligence will also speed up the
move towards more interactive learning experiences.
Most people may be Internet users in 2050 and schools can provide (提供) more learning activities for
students at school and at home. 5G will be a thing of the past, but high-speed networks are here to stay. We can
expect to see better services for learning as time goes on. Without doubt, students will do most of their homework

How often do you use your mobile phone as a teenager? When I was a teenager, I received my first mobile
phone at the age of thirteen. I quickly discovered the texting function (功能) and started to send texts daily to my
friends.
I started to replace (替换) phone calls and in person socializing with texting. Texting made it easier for me to
communicate with my family and friends whenever possible. It was a whole new method of communication for me.
I could keep doing some other activities while sending messages. I was also more comfortable when I spoke my
mind through these messages.
Now when I look back, I wonder if texting changed how I socialized as a teenager. Did I lose in person social
skills? Now as a young adult in college, I find interpersonal communication is very important throughout my daily
activities. I feel that teenagers are becoming too comfortable with texting and not practicing in-person social skills.
In today’s world, socially interactive (交互的) technologies have become part of our everyday lives, especially
for teenagers. Teenagers in the US spend about 6 hours per day using mobile phones and they are the common
heavy users in using the socially interactive technologies. I believe teenagers are replacing face-to-face interactions
with the text messaging function of mobile phones. Texting gives a safety net for teenagers to communicate with
each other. Teenagers can communicate what they want to say without the pressures (压力) of being face-to-face to
each other.
It is a very important skill for teenagers to be able to improvise. As teenagers grow and continue their lives as
young adults, they will need to use this skill in many situations. For example, in a job interview, you have no time
to re-think and erase (清除) what you say. Besides, in face-to-face communication, teenagers can read body
language and facial expressions.

My New Year’s Day
I’m Jack. I like New Year’s Day. I think it is a time to let go of the past and welcome the future with hope. It
marks the beginning of a new year, a fresh start, and a time to set goals and make changes in our lives.
My New Year’s Day in 2024 was special. I woke up early in the morning and wished my parents a happy new
year. Then we enjoyed a delicious meal together. It was a great way to start the day.
After breakfast, I set out to do some of the things on my list. One of the things on my list was to take a hike
with my parents in the nearby mountains. The weather was perfect for a hike, with clear blue skies and a breeze (微
风). We spent the morning walking, taking in the sights (风景) and sounds of nature.
Another thing on my list was to spend time with my friends. In the afternoon, I met up with some friends in a
local park. We played some games first. Then we talked about all the happenings of the past year, and made plans
for the coming year. It was a fine and enjoyable way to spend the day.
As the day came to a close, I thought about what happened last year and new things to come. I felt grateful (感
