B Eradajere Oleita thinks she may have a partial solution to two of her country’s problems: garbage and poverty. It’s called the Chip Bag Project. The 26-year-old student and environmentalist from Detroit is asking a favor of local snack lovers: Rather than throw your empty chip bags into the trash, donate them so she can turn them into sleeping bags for the homeless. Chip eaters drop off their empty bags from Doritos, Lays, and other favorites at two locations in Detroit: a print shop and a clothing store, where Oleita and her volunteer helpers collect them. After they clean the chip bags in soapy hot water, they slice them open, lay them flat, and iron them together. They use padding (衬垫) and liners (衬里) from old coats to line the insides. It takes about four hours to sew a sleeping bag, and each takes around 150 to 300 chip bags, depending on whether they’re single-serve or family size. The result is a sleeping bag that is “waterproof, lightweight, and easy to carry around”, Oleita told the Detroit News. Since its start in 2020, the Chip Bag Project has collected more than 800,000 chip bags and, as of last December, created 110 sleeping bags. Sure, it would be simpler to raise the money to buy new sleeping bags. But that’s only half the goal for Oleita—whose family moved to the United States from Nigeria a decade ago with the hope of attaining a better life —and her fellow volunteers. “We are devoted to making an impact not only socially, but environmentally,” she says. And, of course, there’s the symbolism of rescuing bags that would otherwise land in the trash and using them to help the homeless. It’s a powerful reminder that environmental problem and poverty often go hand in hand. As Oleita told hourdetroit. com: “I think it’s time to show connections between all of these issues.” 24.What did Oleita ask the snack lovers to do with their empty chip bags? A.To give them away to her. B.To turn them into sleeping bags. C.To throw them into the trash. D.To donate them to the homeless directly. 25.Which of the following is true about the sleeping bags? A.They can be made with ease. B.They can be different in size. C.They are far from overweight. D.They are made by machines in the workshop. 26.What can be inferred from the last two paragraphs? A.Oleita started the project mainly to raise money. B.Poverty results from environmental problems. C.Oleita’s project made 110 sleeping bags per month. D.The aim of the project is more than social issues. 27.Which words can best describe Oleita?A.Responsible and creative. B.Talented and social. C.Hardworking and loyal. D.Selfless and modest. C Climate change has been a long-standing issue. The universe’s most abundant element, hydrogen (氢), has drawn the scientists’ attention and is now on its way to becoming the future of green fuel. More than $150 billion worth of green hydrogen projects were announced globally in 2020. A European multinational aerospace corporation has taken the lead in the new sustainable fuel industry. It has designed self-contained hydrogen fuel cell pods (电池舱) that can be attached to the underside of airplane wings, promoting the use of hydrogen fuel for long- distance flights, which aim to achieve zero emissions. Compared to fossil fuels, hydrogen is a much more eco-friendly fuel. When hydrogen burns, the only by-product is water. However, the traditional way to get hydrogen from natural gas or coal generates considerable carbon emissions. The greenest way is to obtain hydrogen from water using electrolysis (电解) powered by renewable energy, although this process requires so much electricity. The key to making hydrogen competitive with fossil fuels is to lower the production cost. Also, shipping liquid hydrogen is challenging, given that needs to be chilled to -253℃ to do so. Japan’s Kawasaki Heavy Industries is set to complete the construction of the world’s first liquefied hydrogen carrier by early 2021. Most of the world’s big hydrogen export projects are looking to ship hydrogen in the form of liquid ammonia (氨), which can be changed to hydrogen and needs to be chilled to only -33 C. With more and more countries aiming to cut down carbon emissions to solve the issue of global warming, green hydrogen will help decarbonizing (碳减排) industries that can’t be electrified hit the targets. “We could use these circumstances, where loads of public money are going to be needed into the energy system, to jump forward towards a hydrogen economy,” said Diederik Samsom, who heads the European Commission’s climate cabinet. 28.What is the strength of the hydrogen fuel? A.It is convenient to store. B.It works very efficiently. C.It is environmentally friendly. D.It produces no by-product 29.What is the challenge when shipping liquid hydrogen? A.The required temperature. B.The expensive cost of shipping. C.The construction of liquefied carriers. D.Changing it to the form of liquid ammonia. 30.Which industries will benefit from green hydrogen most? A.Those making hydrogen. B.Those generating electricity. C.Those funded by public money. D.Those powered by fossil fuels. 31.What is the most suitable title for the passage? A.Fueling a Green Future B.Living a Green Life C.Shipping Liquid Hydrogen D.Making Hydrogen Competitive D New research concludes people may struggle to differentiate between medical advice given by chatbots (聊天机器人) and human health care providers. Findings indicate chatbots, like ChatGPT, could be valuable tools in assisting healthcare providers in communicating with patients.ChatGPT is trained to predict the most probable next word in a conversation using vast amounts of Internet data. It responds to user enquiries, learning from human feedback. However, it’s not without limitations. ChatGPT, like other large language models(LLMs), can sometimes produce biased information and lacks the ability to perform true reasoning. The research had 392 participants aged 18 and above who were presented with ten patient questions. Half of the responses to these questions were given by humans, while the other half came from ChatGPT. Participants then had to identify the origin of each response and rate their trust in the chatbot’s answers from “completely untrustworthy” to “completely trustworthy”. Participants could only correctly identify chatbot-given responses 65.5% of the time. Participants displayed the most trust in chatbots when handling the matters, such as scheduling appointments or addressing insurance enquiries, with an average trust score of 3.94. Preventative care questions, like cancer screenings, came next at 3.52. However, trust decreased for diagnostic (诊断) and treatment advice, registering scores of 2.90 and 2.89 respectively. The study’s results indicate the potential chatbots possess in aiding patient-provider communications, especially in areas like administrative tasks. But scientists have something to say regarding chatbots assuming more clinical roles. “Providers should exercise picky judgment when it comes to chatbot-given advice due to the limitations of AI models,” researchers said in a statement. The use of AI into healthcare is no longer a distant possibility but a rapidly evolving reality. This study offers a glimpse (瞥见) into the ways we can expect to see AI platforms team with medical clinics. It also shows us improvements that are needed so that new technologies become effective aids and tools for both doctors and patients. These include the following. 32.Which is closest in meaning to “biased” in paragraph 2? A.Inaccurate. B.Indirect. C.Unnecessary. D.Unusual. 33.What affected the participants’ level of trust in chatbot responses? A.Their answers to chatbots’ questions. B.Their then physical conditions. C.The origin of each response. D.The nature of the enquiry. 34.What’s the scientists’ attitude to chatbots taking on clinical medical tasks? A.Disapproving. B.Unclear. C.Conservative. D.Positive. 35.What might the author continue talking about regarding the study? A.Possible reasons for its findings. B.Its major limitations in reality. C.Its influences on healthcare. D.Explanations of its methods. 第二节(共5小题;每小题2.5分,满分12.5分) 阅读下面短文,从短文后的选项中选出可以填入空白处的最佳选项。选项中有两项为多余选项。 Leave-No-Trace Camping For those of us who love spending time in the great outdoors, wild spaces are very special. These are places we visit to recharge, or to fill our hearts with natural beauty. 36 If you feel this way, then you’re the perfect person to promote and practice Leave-No-Trace camping. Its principles are to treat the wilderness the way a decent visitor would and leave everything just as you found it, with no evidence that you passed through. 37 That’s because your visit makes a minimal impact on the environment. You can carry out these ideals in a number of ways. Begin by packing out all your litter. Whenever you go camping, take an empty trash bag with you and put all garbage into the bag. In addition, try not to damage vegetation. 38 Wherever you go, think about what your heavy shoes or boots are doing to the plants underneath and try to keep damage to a minimum. It’s also important that you should not take things away from the wilderness. Rocks, plants, flowers and seashells are all part of the natural landscape. 39 Plus, many animals find homes and food in abandoned shells and flower-heads,and these are things they would miss if you collected them. Leave-No-Trace camping is about being respectful and thoughtful. It’s about honoring the natural world and the creatures that live in it. If you love seeing an untouched mountain stream or a lovely field of wildflowers, then you’ve already taken the first step. 40 A.This means not stepping into a wild animal’s space. B.This is also called “low impact” or “no impact” camping. C.Once taken away, they won’t be there for others to enjoy. D.An increasing number of people take up camping in the wilderness. E.When you put up your tent, try to find a place that’s already bare of plants. F.We hate to see them littered with rubbish or any reminders of previous visitors. She appeared to be shy, always looking down, trying not to make eye contact. She often wore the same clothes, and so did her children. I felt her discomfort when I saw her at the supermarket checkout. She reminded me of myself years ago. We had to go through a tough time. Back then, I couldn’t afford a new winter coat for my daughter, and I didn’t know what I was going to do. Luckily, my three younger children could wear hand-me-downs. One night, I said to myself in my heart that I wished someone to offer me help. I did it for the first time since my husband’s unemployment. The next morning, a neighbour came into the place where I worked. “I know you must feel unbelievable, This morning, I had an overwhelming (无法抗拒的) feeling that you needed this,” she whispered. She insisted on giving me twenty dollars. My eyes started to tear as she continued, “I also have a box of clothes in my car that I was going to donate. Please take what you need.” It was really a shock of getting her help. Was this the response to my word the night before? Going through the large box of clothes, I found several winter items for my children, including a dark purple jacket that looked like it would fit my daughter. Although grateful, I felt embarrassed. The woman must have sensed my discomfort. She raised my chin so I could look at her. “We all need help at one time or another, “she said. “One day, you’ll be the one helping someone in need.” I thanked her and promised I would always try to pay it forward. 注意: 1. 续写词数应为150左右; 2. 请按如下格式在答题卡的相应位置作答。 Looking at the lady at the supermarket checkout, I knew perhaps it was the proper time. ___________________________________________________________________________________________________ ___________________________________________________________________________________________________ ___________________________________________________________________________________________________ ___________________________________________________________________________________________________ _______________________________________________________________________________ To my surprise, she said, “Yes.” ___________________________________________________________________________________________________ ___________________________________________________________________________________________________ ___________________________________________________________________________________________________ ___________________________________________________________________________________________________ _______________________________________________________________________________
